Has anyone had any luck getting the Razer drivers to work? I installed them and got random freezes.. checked their website and nothing new.. guess I won't be using any of the advanced features on my mouse.

Yes it is. Both do the same thing - limit me under the guise of doing the right thing.

No, DRM restricts media. UAC is meant to protect the core of the OS, and restrict what code runs and what doesn't run.

As per WIkipedia:

"User Account Control (UAC) is a technology and security infrastructure introduced with Microsoft's Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 operating systems, with a more relaxed[1] version also present in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. It aims to improve the security of Microsoft Windows by limiting application software to standard user privileges until an administrator authorizes an increase or elevation. In this way, only applications trusted by the user may receive administrative privileges, and malware should be kept from compromising the operating system. In other words, a user account may have administrator privileges assigned to it, but applications that the user runs do not inherit those privileges unless they are approved beforehand or the user explicitly authorizes it."

Yes both restrict, thanks for proving my point.

Now, do tell me if Windows 8 functions without a problem when luafv service is prevented from starting. Thats all I want to know. :)

Oh ok so your telling me that UAC Pops up for you ever time you want to watch a movie or video ....... seriously DRM and UAC are 2 different things UAC pops up to ask weather or not you want to let something run or if for some odd reason some bad software ends up trying to run on your system it makes it so code that you did not want to run on your system wont and it also stops from any male ware or of that sort from trickling down from a web page and gaining acces to your system.

DRM witch in this day and age is not a damn issue because if you have DRM encoded Movies music or anything well that is more less your fault for haveing DRM based Media ( Movies Music ect) for me i use VLC and none of the files i run are DRM encoded so i am fine b ut DRM is for just that type of stuff not Software that wants to run somewhere in the windows underbelly code or just run ramped around your system DRM wont stop that from happending but UAC does

Observation : you must still be running windows XP and refuse to use windows 7 or 8 because you think UAC is Evil and is a system killer and that you think is just DRM and wont let ya do this or that so get that out of your head UAC is security layer not DRM

I got rid of W8 bc speed issues and stability issues,

but, one of my favorite tweaks for Windows 7 is to kill UAC (to be able to extract files into Program Files without idiocy),

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"EnableLUA"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\luafv]
"Start"=dword:00000004

Does this still work in W8? Can someone check?

turns out you can install this onto a VM and test yourself.

UAC simply allows applications to fail if they do not request elevation or are explicitly elevated by the user. I have a lot of those. Unless Microsoft changed something about this behavior in 8?

XP is holding back the world. It was good for its time, but like your EX, you have a better life now called 7 - she ain't perfect, sometimes slower, but is otherwise better.

After getting Intel's driver on, you can force the higher resolution. Though distorted, works. MS really needs to scale Metro to 1024 x 600. Metro works much, much better on a tablet! There's is potential here. On a tablet, desktop is not really needed.

it won't happen

mostly because netbooks are getting phased out by ultrabooks and resolutions are improving on tablets (will be especially true once Win 8 RTM's)

Interesting. So UAC is now forced upon the user? What up with the world, UAC / DRM is the end of freedom!

You can still set UAC to Never Notify, which is the same for all intents and purposes - it removes virtually all the UAC prompts. Clicking "Continue" when you want to move files into system folders on your boot drive is hardly an issue. If you really want to disable it you still can but I imagine it is integral to the Metro sandboxing, which is necessary for security.

But how would this be different in Win 8?

You can still pin your applications to the taskbar and put your game shortcuts on the desktop

I have to deal with Start Screen if i want to pin something to my taskbar. I don't care about Metro concept or any application there therefore will uninstall everything as part of my setup and remove every pin except for Desktop if i decide to go with Windows 8. In that sense i need computer to boot into Desktop not Start Screen. Also want to get rid of lock screen because in that case it is useless. Bottom line, there will be **** load of manual work to setup computer the way i want, bad experience out of box. However it is possible after few hours of working on it. The problem is that my Taskbar won't be able to take everything i want which will make my Desktop much busy with shortcuts than with Windows 7 because i want to avoid Start Screen. A good solution is to use run dialog and type in everything extra i run such as control panel, network, homegroup and some other things. At the end there will be Desktop and Metro Screen hanging there with one pin on it (Desktop). Forgot there is right click mouse button in left lower corner with some options. Speaking of search, yeah it will be replaced by full use of run dialog or simply accessing files directly by browsing through windows explorer. I think i am gonna write search program (standalone application) for Windows 8 so Metro is avoided.

Metro does not offer nowhere near Desktop does as far as content for each application. I need adobe flash and i need browser with plugins. i don't need Metro USA today app, i have IE on my desktop where i type address and i get full page experience. I do not understand reason people on PC should limit themselves by interface which was meant for phone and it is already limited by the nature of device it was written for.

You are such a girl, whining about a screen that clearly would give you a lot of benefit, but you are just to stubborn to admit it.

Because, oh no, I get distracted when a different screen pops up when I want to start a new app.

You should just quit IT with that attitude

It is not attitude. I am in IT business for long time, and i love it. I don't understand duplications and i see no benefits of Metro apps over Desktop apps. They do not provide enough. For example. I need browser with plugins. Why should i use Metro App USA Today when i can type address in my Desktop browser and have full experience of web page? Why should i use Mail App when i have Desktop Outlook. From practical point of view Metro seems less for traditional PC users and that less is just enough for Smart Phones and Tablets. It brings unnecessary limitation to PC because the nature of Metro follows limitation of Phone or Table as device itself. I hope you understand what i am trying to say. It is not really so much about Metro Start Screen as it is need for little more options given by Microsoft whether to have Metro On or not. It is very little all Metro haters want.

Do you mean you do not like Metro in general or the Metro implementation in Win8?

How do you rate MetroTwit, Zune, WMC etc ?

I like Metro Zune (only one i use), don't have Tweeter account. But i do not look like Metro implementation in Windows 8. Thanks for asking this. I believe MS should take direction (Metro implementation) of Microsoft Zune and MetroTwit for PC. Metro Zune is an example where things are done right and that is Metro implementation within Desktop and not other way around which means Windows Explorer should be Metro (Zune) looking, Control Panel etc but all within Desktop!

I agree with this too. MS should bring metro to the desktop and unify the interfaces into one consistent whole.

Anyone know if there is a way to jump right to desktop? If i'm in a fullscreen game, and i want to jump back to desktop to check steam chat or such, i have to go to the metro screen, and then go to desktop - and alt tab to swap to it does not always seem to work right. Is there a jump to desktop hot key?

Windows-D... same as it has been. :)

I recently installed Win8 CP on my main PC, which is setup to two monitors. Previously I have used a different PC with a single monitor in small periods at the time.

And wow there is a big different when using Win8 on dual monitors. The new taskbar settings and changes is great. Also the improved wallpaper support for spanned setup is great.

I would recommend that everyone should try two monitors instead of one.

So far everything seems quite stable. A few bumps here and there, but looks really promising. No major issues att.

So what exactly is stopping you from using desktop IE with plugins, Outlook or any other non-Metro app? For someone who claims to be in IT for a long time, would seem a simple task to uninstall/unpin ALL Metro apps from the Start screen and just have desktop applications pinned and organised in different groups. Bam, you are not limited to Metro apps and can use whatever you want. However it seems your blind hatred wont let you rationally evaluate how you can adapt Windows 8 to your needs but keep going on about how bad Metro is, how the apps are limited, etc, etc.

Kind of a strange attitude for someone claiming to be in IT for a long time when so many changes in IT have taken place over the years.

You'd be surprised to know how many of these 'IT Guys' simply fall behind because they don't keep up with the changes in technology.

Many changes took place over the place and this is a first change i could remember as far as Microsoft goes which i don't like. And yes you can uninstall Metro Apps which i will be doing if i switch to Windows 8 since i will be using Desktop apps only. MS needs to give ability to people at least to decide whether they want to see desktop or metro after they login. Also ability to remove useless lock screen when user decides to remove all metro apps.

I thought Microsoft will implement Metro within Desktop not other way around. Windows 8 Metro implementation is not good and it is done in worst possible way. That's my opinion.

I don't understand why you don't want to use any metro apps, you haven't tried them already.

I find the lockscreen very usefull since it has notifications that any metro apps can use.

    • LosslessCut 3.69 by Razvan Serea LosslessCut aims to be the ultimate cross platform FFmpeg GUI for extremely fast and lossless operations on video, audio, subtitle and other related media files. The main feature is lossless trimming and cutting of video and audio files, which is great for saving space by rough-cutting your large video files taken from a video camera, GoPro, drone, etc. It lets you quickly extract the good parts from your videos and discard many gigabytes of data without doing a slow re-encode and thereby losing quality. Or you can add a music or subtitle track to your video without needing to encode. Everything is extremely fast because it does an almost direct data copy, fueled by the awesome FFmpeg which does all the grunt work. Features Lossless cutting of most video and audio formats Losslessly cut out parts of video/audio (for cutting away commercials etc.) Losslessly rearrange the order of video/audio segments Lossless merge/concatenation of arbitrary files (with identical codecs parameters, e.g. from the same camera) Lossless stream editing: Combine arbitrary tracks from multiple files (ex. add music or subtitle track to a video file) Losslessly extract all tracks from a file (extract video, audio, subtitle, attachments and other tracks from one file into separate files) Batch view for fast multi-file workflow Remux into any compatible output format Take full-resolution snapshots from videos in JPEG/PNG format Manual input of cutpoint times Apply a per-file timecode offset (and auto load timecode from file) Change rotation/orientation metadata in videos View technical data about all streams Timeline zoom and frame/keyframe jumping for accurate cutting around keyframes Saves per project cut segments to project file View FFmpeg last command log so you can modify and re-run recent commands on the command line Undo/redo Give labels to cut segments View segment details, export/import cut segments as CSV Import segments from: MP4/MKV chapters, Text file, YouTube, CSV, CUE, XML (DaVinci, Final Cut Pro) Video thumbnails and audio waveform Edit file metadata and per-stream metadata Edit per-stream disposition Cut with chapter marks Annotate segments with tags View subtitles Example lossless use cases Cut out commercials from a recorded TV show (and re-format from TS to MP4) Remove audio tracks from a file Extract music track from a video and cut it to your needs Add music to a video (or replace existing audio track) Combine audio and video tracks from separate recordings Include an external subtitle into a video Quickly change a H264/H265 MKV video to MOV or MP4 for playback on iPhone Import a list of cut times from other tool as a EDL (edit decision list, CSV) and run these cuts with LosslessCut Export a list of cut times as a CSV EDL and process these in another tool Quickly cut a file by its MP4/MKV chapters Quickly cut a YouTube video by its chapters (or music times from a comment) Change the language of a file's audio/subtitle tracks Attach cover art to videos Change author, title, GPS position, recording time of a video Fix rotation of a video that has the wrong orientation flag set Great for rotating phone videos that come out the wrong way without actually re-encoding the video. • Doesn't even need a UI for point 2 - use some sort of JSON/XML container - because MOST users won't even bother.
    • Legit concern or publicity stunt considering this is the first time I'm hearing the name?
