Considering the real User Interface may be linked to Aero, I think it is a bit soon to be putting down a User Interface. I think with Windows XP (Whistler) at this stage, the User Interface was 'Watercolour' and we know how that changed...

Watercolour to Luna = A change for the worst

watercolour appeared pretty late me thinks, we are still on alpha stage, and it's from a design point of view that it should be looked at. Anyway i must be blind.. but i don't fint it Pantherish.. nor Brushish.. if i can use those therms.. it's plain grey not really fancy... so every mac fans jumping on the "look its like panther" may have sh*t in their eyes (sorry but really if only it's grey than its copying on mac, lol then every grey themes luna too

This is but a taste of what to come. Slate and the entire concept of sidebar will obviously be different when 2006 arrives (and we'll witness each transistion by... uh... leaks). And Aero probably won't been seen until (my guess) late 2005 or early 2006 before release date.

Looks like Aero's been implemented far sooner than I thought.

The GUI looks very nice, but I'm downloading it right now so I can test it for myself. Perhaps I'll disclose even more screenshots, but some of the buttons don't look right. Also, will they be changing the Start Menu again anytime soon?

The 'slate' theme isn't Aero...

Seems to be borrowing/sharing a lot of features/design features found in MSN8/9.

Download manager, back/forward buttons, large space at top of window (something I'm not fond of) popup blocker, and dashboard/sidebar.

Note: this is not how I normally run MSN - I have the huge icons turned off, and the dashboard at the side of my desktop, not in each window.

Isn't that what XP was meant to be ? :p

How come you have the House as the home button, while I have the MSN Butterfly?

I have neowin as my homepage, not the default msn, click the arrow on the home button, and choose "Set the Home Page."

Could you post (PNG) screenies of:

1. IE maximized

2. Forward button enabled

3. Menu enabled/disabled/mouseover

4. Toolbar enabled/disabled/mouseover

5. Slider, up-down-box, button, scrollbar, checkbox, option button, listbox, combobox enabled/disabled/mouseover

6. Anything else that would be good to make an IE wrapper that looks like Longhorn :D

Time to develop is good.

Now there is no excuse for driver compatability when lauched.

That will ensure better assimilation.

With good driver compatability there will be no problems like with xp, I remember several friends wanted to install but most couldn't 'cause drivers where unavailable.

I hope they release aero soon to devepopers (Hope it leaks too :) ) so they can make the best compatability and smoothness in the rendering.

This topic is now closed to further replies.

    • Apple reluctantly forces strict new age checks on Texas users starting today by Paul Hill Apple will begin enforcing the Texas Age Assurance Law (SB 2420) following a recent court ruling that lifted an injunction on SB 2420. Starting June 4 (today), Apple will enforce strict age-verification and parental-consent rules for new Apple accounts created in Texas. This move will affect children under 18 who go to download apps or attempt to make in-app purchases. Apple previously expressed privacy concerns related to this law, but compliance is now mandatory for the company, nevertheless. Apple will use several APIs to follow the law. Principally, the Declared Age Range API will fetch the specific user age bracket (Under 13, 13-15, 16-17, or 18+) and a verification method. The Significant Change API (PermissionKit) will trigger a system dialog for parental consent if an app gets a major update or an age-rating shift. There is also a new property type in StoreKit that allows developers to automatically check when their app’s age rating has changed on a user’s device and then use the Significant Change API to request parental consent. Finally, App Store Server Notifications can be configured to tell developers when a parent revokes consent, blocking app launches. To ensure they are ready for these changes, developers must immediately use Apple’s sandbox testing environment to validate these APIs in their apps. For any developers out there finding this to be inconvenient, get used to it. Other regions, such as Utah, Louisiana, and Brazil, are looking at, or have implemented, similar rules.
    • They should show the onedrive recycle bin in a searchable manner and on app not just on the website
