techguy77
Oh, they why did you post that you're using C and C++ to develop stuff, if you're a .NET developer? I am .NET developer because my job requires it. Outside of work i use C and C++ language. I hate .NET, whole stupid concept of it. Again this has nothing to do with the language of choice, C#, C++ or VB. I shouldn't say WinRT sucks perhaps, but it is not ready yet! ~Johnny
...but it is not ready yet! Well duh, it's not finished yet :p I can say my nVidia desktop has crashed quite quite a few times, but my AMD laptop runs everything perfectly fine. I also get very obvious visual corruption occasionally on the nVidia, with random blocks and lines appearing and flashing around the screen. winlonghorn
I am .NET developer for the past 5 years and i can tell you that WinRT is pile of crap. Did you even bother to consider the bigger picture? I am a .NET and Web Developer myself and I love the direction it is going! It is version 1.0 of a completely new platform. Give it a chance! As another person here said, ".NET wasn't great when it was first released either!" They can't add everything that .NET has in one release. Think about Scope Creep and you will know why! ;) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1062336-so-winrt-just-isnt-very-stable/page/2/#findComment-594711508 Share on other sites

I also get very obvious visual corruption occasionally on the nVidia, with random blocks and lines appearing and flashing around the screen. Exact same issues for me. I hope nVidia steps up their game, because anecdotally it seemed Origin has issues on nVidia but not AMD, and AMD is overall way more appealing at the low price points than nVidia. M_Lyons10
Apps should be sandboxed so when they crash they don't take down the whole system. I can't even Ctrl+Alt+Del I've had Metro apps crash, but I've not had them crash anything else... Are you saying that they are actually causing Windows to crash? As far as I'm aware, they should be sandboxed... techguy77
WinRT is not ready. MS shouldn't push WinRT until maybe Windows 10 release, that's my take on it. It's beta, of course it isn't ready, hence BETA, they said that the metro apps are months behind the rest for a reasonit will get better by the time RC is released Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1062336-so-winrt-just-isnt-very-stable/page/2/#findComment-594750062 Share on other sites
The_Decimator
Well, what do you expect? Visual Studio 11 & Windows 8 are only in beta... EDIT: Heck, most apps we have now that use WinRT started development back when Visual Studio 11 was in its Developer Preview, (a.k.a. alpha,) as most had to be done by the time the Windows 8 Consumer Preview released... (Which released at the same time as the Visual Studio 11 Beta...) +Ryster Subscriber² Posted March 22, 2012 Subscriber² Share Posted March 22, 2012 You mean alpha grade apps running on an early-beta grade app framework have bugs and occasionally crash? :| Shock horror. That is simply to be expected. What's surprising is how stable and fast Windows 8 is overall, at this point. Stoffel
I have some of the Metro apps that 'crash' once and a while. They basically go back to the start screen or load the splash screen again. If I close them and restart they usually work Not bad for App previews, I do hope they are working on giving them way more functionality. Glad to see the apps get updated fairly frequently in the App store Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1062336-so-winrt-just-isnt-very-stable/page/2/#findComment-594750108 Share on other sites

Glad to see the apps get updated fairly frequently in the App store That happened to me with a few apps and games (particularly Evernote). I nailed the cause down to either Nvidia's or Intel's HD Graphics drivers (I have a Dell L502X with Optimus). I had to remove the Microsoft drivers and install the proprietary ones (in Intel's case, I had to downgrade and force it to stick to the downgraded version). That solved the problems with apps flickering and going back to the splash screen. Dunno if it will help with your case but its worth the try. Eric Veteran Posted March 26, 2012 Veteran Share Posted March 26, 2012 I have IE hang once in a while browsing. You can fix it by opening a new tab (Ctrl-T) and then switching back. Also, Cut The Rope seems to cause a race condition 90% of the time I try to start it requiring a hard reset. I just uninstalled it and pinned the browser version instead. :/ Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1062336-so-winrt-just-isnt-very-stable/page/2/#findComment-594757088 Share on other sites

+LogicalApex MVC Posted March 26, 2012 MVC Share Posted March 26, 2012 Yeah, it's nVidia. No surprise... They had nasty drivers on Vista for something like 6 months post launch.
