I'm surprised nobody made a post about it... buuuuut

Canon has followed the D800 with an update to their own full frame high resolution pro body, the 5D.

I don't follow Canon gear as closely as Nikon, but it doesn't seem much of an upgrade. Also, $3,500 for only 150,000 shutter life span? Hm.

One thing to note, if you want 6 FPS on the Nikon D800, you need to buy the extra battery/grip. I think that'll set you back about $400, which brings the price to $3,400, which is dead even w/ the 5D MKIII.

I do not follow or own DSLR cameras but the specifications seem nice. Although I know little it seems like this camera does not offer much more than comparible cameras so why is it so expensive? Or can you point out what it really excels at compared to similar cameras that justifies the price.

It's a full frame dSLR.

lol, Ok, I do not own a DSLR but I have been reading up about them because I have been thinking about getting one. Although I do not have a time frame of when I will get one. Good point about the full frame. That is awesome. I realized that it is a full frame but did not really think about that when thinking about the price. I also know that it has good build quality. I thought that most of the specifications are comparable to similar cameras but I was not sure about the auto focus points. So I looked up the Nikon D800 and I see it has 51 points. So the 61 points is also good. Plus this camera is only $400 more than the Nikon D800 which is also a full frame. Maybe the price is good.

By the way, since I am a newb I would never start off with this camera. lol

While the number of points is important you also have to consider whether they're line, cross or double-cross as well as each system's design. It could be the case that the D800's 51 point array is better at some things than the 5D MkIII's array and viceversa.

I think this is just a small upgrade. Great for those that have the M1 but if you have the mII better just waiting for the price to come down. When it gets down to 3k I will buy it. I been wanting to go FF for a while and the mII just does not do it for me.

I still rather have the D700 over the D800. :p

Doesn't look too compelling for MKII owners. On the flip side, I have an increasingly elderly 40D (it's started shouting at kids to get off it's lawn, and it wets itself), that might get replaced with one of these. That's one hell of a spec sheet, and I've never liked the 1D form factor. I have little girl hands :(

Got mine yesterday with stereo mic, 128GB SDXC and 17-40L. It's replacing my 40D with 10-22 EF-s and so far I've become fully familiar with 90% of features. really logical in layout and function.

Just got the Pixel Grip and SIgma 85 1.4 to buy and I'm set with the wide, 50 1.4 and the 85 for my shooting needs.

The performance is superb, ISO3200 on the 40D bears more bad noise than ISO 12,800 on the 5D. It also shoots at 7FPS, not the rated 6. The 40D shoots at 7.8FPS as opposed to 6.4. Canon have always been conservative in their ratings.

Pixel Vertex Grip arrived the other day, build quality seems very good, the inside base is metal as is the ceiling, it seems sturdy on the tripod as well and the grip rubber quality is a mirror of the 5D's own grip. All buttons seem to work fine and battery info is reported correctly by the camera!

Only time will tell how the plastic areas wear down with use. The Meike grip on the 40D wore quite well in this regard but the pixel grip feels stronger mostly due to its tighter construction (lower profile).

    • Any decent ITSM will A) have a web form that allows a user to raise a ticket, if you're writing an email you can write a ticket. B) Monitor a mailbox and auto-generate tickets based on inbound mails for those users that really can't get their heads around the concept that if you have an issue you go to support.mycompany.com and fill in the box. From your description you're having users email the desk, and then having a human read each one and manually raise a ticket on behalf of the user.

    • Fixing things? Have you ever tried linux? Everything works out of the box nowadays in most common hardware. This includes Wifi and Bluetooth. If anything, if they return back to windows is because they haven't found an equivalent program which often used on windows.
