Digg founder Kevin Rose has been hired by Google, according to sources close to the situation.

Google declined to comment, and Rose did not reply to multiple requests.

Rose?s first day at Google is to be this Monday, the sources said.

Rose has an avid online following, stemming from his days as a host on TechTV and the long-running podcast ?Diggnation.? Though Oink ? which was a local recommendations app ? may not have succeeded, it was able to hit 150,000 downloads in its first month.

Wonder what he'll **** up first as part of Google. Maybe they'll let him redesign the search page and make 70% of their users leave ?

I'm sure Bing is already celebrating. :p

What has most likely happened is that they bought Milk/Oink and a part of their contract is for him and his team to work for Google for a year or so to help them integrate or develop something that they found interesting with Milk.

This is most likely what has happened. Every one of the members of Milk Inc. reportedly got like a $1 million or so from the purchase.

Ya I read that in the article I was just poking a stick with my post about how the Digg redesign that he oversaw that basically had the site commit suicide.

He stated several times on TWiT that he had very little to do with the re-design and had pretty much left digg at that point.

Kevin is a bright guy and very talented. I'm sure google will use him wisely.

Except he was the interim CEO at the time and was also in that role when it launched. He should have either given the job to someone who was actually there or done his job and saw a train wreck coming.

Timeline of events for clarity:

April 5, 2010 - Jay Adelson Steps Down as CEO, Kevin Rose becomes interim CEO

July 2, 2010 - Digg version 4 alpha testing begins

August 25, 2010 - Digg v4 is released: My News and Publisher Streams launched

September 1, 2010 - Matt Williams replaces Kevin Rose as CEO
