  1. 1. BASED ON EXPERIENCE, which is more comfortable: Xbox 360 controller or DualShock 3?

I want to again repeat this:

BASED ON EXPERIENCE

Which is more comfortable the Xbox 360 controller or the DualShock 3?

I'm interested in getting one for PC. I under the Xbox 360 is a bit more expensive for PC (I want it to be able to play between wired and wireless whenever I feel like it) but the DualShock 3 on PC is so disgusting (you have to install software, no "driver only" method...). Also I know people that have a PS3 so it would work with their system and Ive always played with a PS controller on my PC.

So Ill go with the Xbox 360 one if it is easy to get used to.

Buy a wireless 360 controller for windows. They aren't that expensive and they are simple to set up & use.

As far as comfort: it's what you get used to. If you used a DS3 for a few weeks, you'd be used to it. If you used 360 controller for a few weeks, you'd be used to that.

I switch between DS3 and 360 controllers all the time and I'm pretty used to both.

360 controller is by far one of the most comfortable controllers for a gaming system.

anyone who says is dual shock is a massive fanboy, even hardcore sony fanboys forums most admit the controller atleast is the only good thing about xbox.,

I would recommend the 360 controller for Windows.

For me, the 3 issues with the Dual Shock are:

1) Thumbs crash together because the sticks are so close.

2) Convex thumbsticks. Perhaps 1) would be mitigated if they were concave so thumbs were contained.

3) L2 and R2. These triggers are so bad that even shooter devs make you use R1 to fire, which is weird when coming from the Xbox.

Obviously all personal opinion from my experience :)

both are brilliant designs. But i will say. Get an Xbox controller because of better compatibility as most games are designed to work really well with it.

The controls are a little different on dualshock so it poses some problems. I was a dualshock lover.. but i had to change becoz of how game developers support xbox 360 controller on PC better.

The DS3 trigger makes little sense in that it slides away from you, whilst 360 one actually looked like a trigger in that it curls around your finger. Sort of same issue with the thumbstick, but from experience you are as likely as accidentally slide off the 360 thumbstick as a DS3.

I really don't have much of a preference, I like a lighter controller and DS3 is a lighter controller, whilst I never found the ergonomic advantage of 360 to make it my preferred choice.

Personally the 360 is the better controller. The whole controller is more solid, the triggers are brilliant and the analogue sticks give you much better feedback than the loose DS3 analogue sticks. Plus the 360 controller is officially supported and nowadays is supported by most games including button prompts.

The Xbox 360 controller. I'm no stranger to DualShock controllers. I've used all three versions (1, 2, & 3) and I felt a lot of pain and discomfort after prolonged use. The most notable pain is on my thumb after using the D-pad for more than 30 minutes. I experience little to no pain or discomfort with the Xbox 360 controller. I also think it's more ergonomic in terms of button and joystick positioning.

And that post must be the worst formatted post EVER.

Neowin's fault. I actually did not type out any of those spaces....

I actually use the D-Pad a lot since most of you are talking about the joysticks. Just wanted to mention that :)

The GC one is actually pretty great, Klayzen :D Too bad you it's not usb...

Back on topic, the 360 all the way. Hardware wise it's just great. The only (tiny) drawback -which most may even not notice- is that it uses Xinput, and older games which use Directinput tend to have deadzone issues and the rumble isn't supported. You can fix it tho, using a third party driver called xbcd360, but it doesn't work with the wireless controller.

360 without a shadow of a doubt...tho the D-pad is not good...your only wat around that it to get the new silver controller with transforming D-pad...this fixes most of the 360 D-Pad issues...then you just need the adapter to connect it to your PC.

OK a little more expensive but you get the comfort of the 360 controller but still get a functional D-Pad...

One thing needs to be said about the wireless 360 controller for windows though (this does not apply to the wired controller).

There's no way to turn the controller off unless you play a crappy GFWL title. And to this day MS did not adress that problem via drivers probably to promote the crappy GFWL. There's programs out there to add this feature outside of GFWL but i would not personally trust those small programs made by unknown people.

If you are not playing a crappy GFWL title there's only 2 way to close the controller. Wait 10 minutes for it to turn itself off. Or remove the battery. If you close your computer while the controller is still on the controlle with then enter search mode and will not turn itself off.

Not a big problem but still something that people should know before buying one. If you don't need wireless buy the wired one or be ready to remove the battery each time you want to close your PC right after a gaming session.

The 360 controller is better. But the D pad is atrocious. Dual Shock D pad is better. But the D pad is imo only useful for games like Street Fighter and i don't think you'll play such games on PC so not relevant. Get a 360 wired controller.

Xbox 360 controller in my opinion is the most comfortable. Though I do not have a Wireless receiver for Windows or a wired Xbox 360 controller so I use my PS3 controller for PC games. Feels wrong using a Sony PS3 Sixaxis controller for Halo 2. :|

I prefer my Xbox controller. But can only use it with the MS Chatpad.

I only like the Dual Shockncontroller above the regular PS3 controller due to weight

But above all the Xbox controller

I prefer the 360 controller as the Sony ones make my hands cramp up, but the older ones are horrid due to D-pad responsiveness.

@epk: I think the GC controllers actually are USB but with a nonstandard connector. I could be wrong, though.

    • Nice rant! Expletive after expletive after expletive. Poor petal, I've touched a nerve. Would you like a tissue to wipe those tears away. Btw, nice one calling Neowin trash. Why would you stick around when you disrespect this site and the people behind it? Just go away if you feel that way.
