  1. 1. BASED ON EXPERIENCE, which is more comfortable: Xbox 360 controller or DualShock 3?

Looks like there are too many MS fanboys here. IMO Sony controller is much more accurate and sensitive. I hate the R2 L2 in the 360 controller and the lack of USB rechargeable battery. MS might be the leader in software but Sony rules in Hardware..

What? Microsoft has had some of the best accessories in the business. http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us

If everyone didn't up and ar so much about the first PS3 controller we would have it now, and it was designed to be more comfortable no matter how stupid it looked,

Xbox360 controller by leaps ahead. I tried the PS controller but felt it too antique compared to the comfortable and "modern" 360 controller. I have a 20gb 360 since 2007 and has been using it's wireless controller on my PC. I bought a wireless adapter for it on ebay couple years ago. Still works great and it has been a bliss experience playing games on Steam. Pretty much many PC games mainly support 360 controllers.

Yes, that's right, you can use a 360 controller labelled as for 360 consoles on PC. They are all the same. The only difference is the label and the "windows" version has a driver CD. You can even play xbox360 racing wheel on PC as well but it's support is partial (no force feedback). To have a wireless 360 device work on PC you need a wireless gaming adapter:

I think he's mis quoting quite bad, or you're misunderstanding his quote.

If you charge the battery fully and then leave it alone it will lose 30% of it's "charge" every month. However, a NiMH battery is very little affected by age, whereas age and charge cycles is the primary reason for capacity reduction on Lithium. NiMH batteries primarily lose capacity from wrong usage. And even when they've gone bad, they can often be revived to higher capacity by cycling. though it's hard on these kind of batteries or without a special charger,

Wow, then I think I won't be buying a xbox battery pack ever again :s

Yes sorry badly quoted...as Hawkman said leaving it alone it can discharge that much over a month...it is not however losing capacity...charging it will get you back to 100%.

Yea, I guess I'm a fanboy because my hands always cramp up within 5 minutes of using a PS3 controller, I'm a fanboy because I have fairly large hands, I'm a fanboy because It feels to me like the PS3 controllers are too light and cheaply made, I'm a fanboy because I prefer my tech to feel like it has some weight to it and sturdy.

Yes, we're all fanboys because for our own reasons we prefer someone other an alternative. By your logic you're a PS3 fanboy, because you prefer the controller.

Ah ok, that's far more reasonable :D

What was I doing wrong? I always charged them fully (through the usb cable, with the battery attached to the controller) and used them until the controller stopped working.

I think I'll rather keep playing with the usb cable instead of spending money on new batteries or trying to fix these ones, but learning how to do things right never hurts

I think the primary problem is that there simply isn't enough power in the USB cable to properly charge the NiMH battery packs so they end up dying. they should be charged at around 1C or whatever it is. The charging station where you can charge two NiMH packs that connects directly to the power might do a better job at properly charging the batteries. it may also empty them first which will help. optimally for NiMH packs you should occasionally do a 5+ cycle, where you charge and empty the packs 5 or more times repeatedly. however this is mostly for heavy use battery like for those doing RC hobby. and requires expensive chargers.

Xbox 360 controller is so much better than the DS3 it is unreal. The playstation controller has barely changed since the original 15 years ago, bar adding to uncomfortable sticks and shoulder triggers. It was a crap design then and it is just as bad now. The GameCube's was the best controller in my opinion, but the 360 is a pretty close second.

Unfortunately the wireless dongle is pretty crap. that is it works great but it tends to die after a while. I've had two die on me, one that came withe the controller, then it wasn't possible to get it for a while so I got the headset that came with the same one and it does. generally I believe it's a tiny condensator in them that tends to die. common problem. :(

Did you have it plugged in all the time? Maybe only plugging it in when you're about to play might extend their lives. It might be a bit of a pain though if your USB ports aren't easily accessed.

I recently bought a wireless 360 controller for Windows. I'm just hoping my dongle doesn't die like the ones you've had.

The PS3 controller needs extras for me (triggers), the 360 doesn't, so it's better by default.

However whatever controller you use for days, months, years, will no doubt end up being easy for you - Unless it's really terrible.

360 needs a good d-pad next gen, PS3 needs better designed triggers. Analog stick location? Hard one, I can use my DS3 as easy as I can use a 360 controller, and vice versa.

Xbox 360 Controller hands down! :)

The Dual Shock is a bit small and awkward for my hands, so it gets very uncomfortable after sometime, especially in fast paced games.

Never had issues with either controller, but having used the Dual Shock for longer I am more familiar with the layout of buttons, I know that the triangle is at the top and that the circle is to the right. Things like this make the pad more intuative when playing games. As others have mentioned the triggers could be better, but can be enhanced with Real Triggers.

If you were starting a fresh with no previous experience of either pad then the 360 wins. If you are old and were playing on the PlayStation before the Xbox was even dreamed of then the familiarity of the pad is something not that easy to get past in my experience.

Weird because I have mine plugged in 24/7 since dec 2009. I bought it on dec 2009 off ebay. and have worked great since. still the first one and it has been plugged in and sitting under my monitor (on the stand) for years. Perhaps your unlucky or unfornate to have got a faulty one.

I usually only just my wireless controller with it for steam games.

probably unlucky, but again, it's a very high failure rate on these. my first one was much older than from 2009, heck my second one is probably from around 2009 and it died much faster than the second one.

now I just got a wired one instead. on the computer I'm just sitting right in front of it anyway, and it also comes with a ridiculously long wire.

They are supposedly easy to fix if you have a sildering iron, as you just have to connect to point avoiding a rather useless fuse or something that tends to blow.

I love my Xbox 360 controller for Windows, works perfectly out of the box, and whilst Dual-Shock don't seem to 'mound' around your palms, fingers and such, the 360 controller does.

Yeah, I agree. The XBox 360 controller is the most comfortable controller I've ever used (And I've used MANY)...

really? mine's going 2-3 years without issues. the problem i did have though was finding proper drivers for windows 7 x64 when i got it.

Yes, of course all of them isn't going to break, but they have a VERY high failure rate, known problem with a tiny SMD fuse on them.

I gotta be honest ... I have owned 4 Xbox 360's (due to RRD etc) and a PS3, and I still have my PS3 and have literally NO comfort issues. But the reality of this question is that you can't possibly just go by what others say. You should try yourself.

But yeah, for me ... PS3 controller is perfectly comfortable, and the Xbox one I found a little clunky in size and shape. But that's only my opinion, certainly not the word of many.

The gamecube one was great to be fair :) But I disagree with your statement about HOW much better than the PS3 pad the Xbox one is ... neither are THAT much better than the other. Even tho I prefer the PS3 one, that doesn't mean the Xbox one was awful. Vice versa ... it's a little extreme to say that. :)

These. Both have something that makes each controller great and each controller annoying. Sony hasn't changed their design, because it mostly works. We haven't changed the wheel.... When something works, you stick with it until something requires you change it. Games haven't required the controller to change.

But for me, since I play more fighting games such as MvC3, the PS3 controller is my pick. But the 360 controller has a great feel. I just wish companies who make games for PCs would stop putting the color of the button on the "press this now" screen... cause if you don't have the 360 controller, your boned.

Sony did change their design to a new more comfortable and ergonomic design though. But they had to hold it back because all the fans ridiculed it for looking like a banana/boomerang...

    • DriversCloud 12.1.6 by Razvan Serea With DriversCloud (formerly My-Config.com), you can explore your computer easily, safely and free. The application quickly scans your PC and identifies the hardware and software components. DriversCloud then establishes a list of the different drivers compatible with your OS and hardware. Download the drivers needed for the proper functioning of your computer. To detect your drivers, DriversCloud also displays a detailed summary of your hardware and software configuration, analyzes your BSOD, monitors in real-time your PC voltages and temperatures and lets you share your configuration online. Once the hardware components have been detected, you will be able to obtain with just a few clicks the latest drivers corresponding to the identified hardware. You can record your configuration on the site for free, and can get the corresponding URL to post the configuration to technical forums, e-mail and social networks. You can also download the detection result (the configuration) as a PDF file. To protect the user's privacy and data confidentiality, a 4-level confidentiality system was created that filters the XML marks and gives control to the user. The default level can be modified in the preferences. Using the maximum level will prevent the user from publishing his configuration and generating a corresponding PDF file. In non-connected mode, each XML configuration is stored on the server for one day (for practical reasons). However, you are given the opportunity to manually delete it. Created in 2004, and continually improved, My-Config.com has established itself on the web as a free service to PC users running Windows and Linux operating systems. The service is designed to work with the most common Internet browsers (Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Safari). • Ocenaudio 3.19.3 by Razvan Serea Ocenaudio is a full featured, fast and easy to use audio and music editor. It is the ideal software for people who need to edit and analyze audio files without complications. Ocenaudio also has powerful features that will please more advanced users. To assist ocenaudio development, a powerful toolset of audio editing, analysis and manipulation called Ocen Framework was created. ocenaudio is also based on Qt framework, a well known library for cross-platform development. Cross-platform support ocenaudio is available for all major operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Native applications are generated for each platform from a common source, in order to achieve excelent performance and seamless integration with the operating system. All versions of ocenaudio have a uniform set of features and the same graphical interface, so the skills you learn in one platform can be used in the others. VST plugins support Ocenaudio supports VST (Virtual Studio Technology) plugins, giving its users access to numerous effects. Like the native effects, VST effects can use real-time preview to aide configuration. Real-time preview of effects Applying effects such as EQ, gain and filtering is an important part of audio editing. However, it is very tricky to get the desired result by adjusting the controls configuration alone: you must listen the processed audio. To ease the configuration of audio effects, ocenaudio has a real time preview feature: you hear the processed signal while adjusting the controls. The effect configuration window also includes a miniature view of the selected audio signal. You can navigate on this miniature view in the same way as you do on the main interface, selecting parts that interest you and listening to the effect result in real time. Multiselection for delicate editions To speed up complex audio files editing, ocenaudio includes multi-selection. With this amazing tool, you can simultaneously select different portions of an audio file and listen, edit or even apply an effect to them. For example, if you want to normalize only the excerpts of an interview where the interviewee is talking, just select them and apply the effect. Eficient edition of large files With ocenaudio, there is no limit to the length or the quantity of the audio files you can edit. Using an advanced memory management system, the application keeps your files open without wasting any of your computer's memory. Even in files several hours long, common editing operations such as copy, cut or paste happen almost instantly. Fully featured spectrogram Besides offering an incredible waveform view of your audio files, ocenaudio has a powerful and complete spectrogram view. In this view, you can analyze the spectral content of your audio signal with maximum clarity. Advanced users will be surprised to find that the spectrogram settings are applied in real time. The display is updated immediately when altering features such as the number of frequency bands, window type and size and dynamic range of the display.
