Nice! Now I don't have to minimize Steam anymore because it isn't an eyesore! :)

Great work!

Haha, thanks! And thanks again for the Steam logo!

Great skin! Definitely something I will not use Steam without.

I'm glad to hear that!

Looks fantastic -- great job.

My only issue/bug is that my wallet has some leftover change, and that appears behind "VIEW FRIENDS."

Thanks, the issue has already been reported and will be released in the next update.

And your skin is on the front page. Enjoy: http://www.neowin.ne...ws-8-steam-skin

I just left a comment on the article. :) I'm astonished at the response to this theme.

All I can say is thanks to everyone who has supported both Josh's work as well as my own over the years. Neowin is where it all began and I couldn't have done it without everyone here!

Oh man, there's so much I love about your skin... but at the same time I'm still stuck to the current skin I'm using :/

I love the look/feel/font, but I feel like there's a lot of wasted space on the borders of just about every window. If some of this could be trimmed I feel like that would make this even closer to being a perfect skin.

The only other comment I might have is to try and make the Steam Overlay a bit more space efficient, a lot of skins are doing that, since the default steam overlay blocks so much of the game's view.

Frontpage, that is awesome. You totally deserve it.

I really liked the mockups but sadly after using it I find its too bulky for my taste, though it looks really good. Guess I'll never get away from my minimalistic obsession, eh?

Thanks Excelsis. I don't know if you've seen some of the Firefox themes and concepts Josh and I have done, but I'm a fellow minimalist myself. Check this out. I tried to stay true to the Windows 8 Start Screen so I felt that justified the use of some extra padding. Perhaps I'll tighten things up in future releases. Right now my main concern is finishing off some areas that haven't even been started, like the small Friend's list.

See my response to Excelsis. I can relate with your concerns entirely, I love compact and space-efficient user interfaces. This is something I'll consider for a future release.

I haven't dug into the Steam Overlay yet. It'll look far better when I do.

Thanks for the comment!

Nice skin :)

I'm using it and I like it >.<

Thank you!

great job. it looks really good

It does - in fact, I use it as my Steam default (and yes, I'm running the Consumer Preview, and in x64, no less).

I'm not much on non-Valve skins for Steam; however, this one actually fits the rest of the Consumer Preview.

That was the goal! Thanks for the comment.

if i may ask did u use expression blend for this UI design and coded using c# ..im just newbie trying to learn these stuff so im bit curious on how u implemented

btw greata job .ive really love it

Steam uses their own languages for their client. It's very similar to CSS for styling and makes use of what they call layout files for positioning.

I'm glad you love it so much! :)

Woo!

Awesome! :D

Edit - IMO some things could use a little more padding and the color of the arrow is a little off:

I should'a posted this on google code... :/

I'll be tweaking the padding as I go along. Originally there was too much so I slimmed some things down, but now it looks like everything needs just a bit more. :p

Damn, I was hoping no one would notice the button backgrounds! I recognized this issue before I released it, suddenly forgot about it while distracted fixing other things, then released it anyway. Oopsies...

Looks awesome. :)

But you forgot one feature. You do realise you can change the view of listing of your game library. in the default and few other skins, there is a button to change the view - default, list and grid. Where is that in your skin? So after applying your skin, I am stuck with what I set last - grid view.

EDIT: lol a few seconds, I just worked it out. Sorry about that. It's in the Steam menu top right corner.

EDIT: While in grid view, where could I adjust the sizes of the boxes. Should there be a slider somewhere?

Yeah, I moved it to the menu to get rid of some extra buttons.

I never re-added the slider. I was partially waiting for someone to mention it before I did anything. It'll be in 1.2 in some shape or form.

I love how you're taking feedback and making it even better, I'll check this new verison out tomorrow :)

That's the only way to do it in my book! Let me know what you think once you've had a chance to try it.

Progress Report:

1.2 is coming soon with customizable colors and two font size choices (small and large). I tweaked the larger font to be consistent across the client as there were a few areas like the games list, buttons, and tabs that were larger than 16px (my target).

Aside from the options will be general improvements to to the theme as a whole. This is going to be a great release!

Really liking 1.1 so far. Huge step in the right direction I think. Will the games' background/screenshots thingy in the details view be added back in or you're leaving it as is?

As of right now I'm keeping it removed. Valve didn't leave themers with a lot of headroom so I couldn't make it work.

I'll give it another look some time and see if I can figure something out.

    • LibreWolf 151.0.3-1 by Razvan Serea LibreWolf is an independent “fork” of Firefox, with the primary goals of privacy security and user freedom. It is the community run successor to LibreFox. LibreWolf is designed to increase protection against tracking and fingerprinting techniques, while also including a few security improvements. This is achieved through our privacy and security oriented settings and patches. LibreWolf also aims to remove all the telemetry, data collection and annoyances, as well as disabling anti-freedom features like DRM. LibreWolf features: Latest Firefox — LibreWolf is compiled directly from the latest build of Firefox Stable. You will have the the latest features, and security updates. Independent Build — LibreWolf uses a build independent of Firefox and has its own settings, profile folder and installation path. As a result, it can be installed alongside Firefox or any other browser. No phoning home — Embedded server links and other calling home functions are removed. In other words, minimal background connections by default. User settings updates Extensions firewall: limit internet access for extensions. Multi-platform (Windows/Linux/Mac/and soon Android) Community-Driven Dark theme (classic and advanced) LibreWolf privacy features: Delete cookies and website data on close. Include only privacy respecting search engines like DuckDuckGo and Searx. Include uBlockOrigin with custom default filter lists, and Tracking Protection in strict mode, to block trackers and ads. Strip tracking elements from URLs, both natively and through uBO. Enable dFPI, also known as Total Cookie Protection. Enable RFP which is part of the Tor Uplift project. RFP is considered the best in class anti-fingerprinting solution, and its goal is to make users look the same and cover as many metrics as possible, in an effort to block fingerprinting techniques. Always display user language as en-US to websites, in order to protect the language used in the browser and in the OS. Disable WebGL, as it is a strong fingerprinting vector. Prevent access to the location services of the OS, and use Mozilla's location API instead of Google's API. Limit ICE candidates generation to a single interface when sharing video or audio during a videoconference. Force DNS and WebRTC inside the proxy, when one is being used. Trim cross-origin referrers, so that they don't include the full URI. Disable link prefetching and speculative connections. Disable disk cache and clear temporary files on close. Disable form autofill. Disable search and form history...and more. • Gf needed a new Surface and was looking at a Surface Laptop because of the Snapdragon. Seeing as it was a two year old chip she just decided to get a Lenovo Yoga 2 in 1 instead. Personally this Surface Ultra Cassis reminds me a bit of Razor. It would be interesting if it could handle proper gaming and be 17 inch.
    • No idea, frankly, I'm not into minimum requirements gaming, but it would be an interesting test to find out. Also, I just have to point out that it wasn't my intention to downplay the performance of DXVK on Linux or Linux gaming in general (despite my own experience being a bit of a mixed bag). I just thought it would be good to point out that DXVK is not Linux exclusive and that you can benefit from using it even in Windows.
