Thanks for including the font. I couldn't find it ANYWHERE (literally went through 15 pages of Google), which is incredibly rare these days.

It looks much nicer (read: how it's supposed to) now!

You're welcome! :p

Awesome skin!

Thank you!

Version 1.2 - Download

  • Color and font options. There are now 9 color choices and both large and small font sizes to choose from!
  • Reduced font size across client. The large option is smaller than the old default.
  • New icons for favorites and the cloud.
  • Added a few more options to the menu, including an easy way to see what version of the theme you are currently using.
  • Other misc. changes.

Great update!

I like that you included a check for theme updates button. (Y)

Thank you!

I had that idea earlier on and also vaguely remembered other themes doing it so I figured why not. I've been needing an excuse to design a web page so I may make a simple one to link to the version check. :p

I'm probably being a bit stupid here, but how do I change colours?

Absolutely love the Theme by the way, thank you for going ahead with it and releasing it!

No question is stupid. :) Go to the skin's directory and open up config.ini. Remove the two slashes from the line that has the color of your choosing.

For example, if you'd like to use the orange color scheme your config would look like this.

//COLORS

//include "resource/styles/options/color_red.styles"
include "resource/styles/options/color_orange.styles"
//include "resource/styles/options/color_yellow.styles"
//include "resource/styles/options/color_green.styles"
//include "resource/styles/options/color_blue.styles"
//include "resource/styles/options/color_purple.styles"
//include "resource/styles/options/color_violet.styles"
//include "resource/styles/options/color_magenta.styles"
//include "resource/styles/options/color_teal.styles"[/CODE]

I'm thrilled to hear that you love it! Thanks for giving it a shot.

Have you started work on the overlay? It looks kinda dodgy atm.

Not yet, but that and the browser are pretty high on the to-do list. I think it's safe to say I'll be fixing them for 1.3.

The only thing I'm not too sure on is what to keep and what to toss away. People tend to say it has too much info, so should I just remove the boxes entirely for friends, screenshots, etc.? I rarely use them myself. A possible solution would be to add an option for an overlay that has a similar layout to the current setup and a slim layout.

I really don't get how you guys haven't been hired by Microsoft/Mozilla/Valve/Whatever yet. The interface designs you guys make, whatever it may be, look a-ma-zing.

It's always exciting to read comments like this and I can't thank you enough.

Currently stuck on my Windows XP rig (bad flash...) and the skin looks odd.

The gap between Library and the dropdown arrow changes depending on if I choose All Games, Recently Played, Installed, etc... And there's the 'VIEW...' over the avatar area.

Nothing major but here's a screenshot.

Did you install the supplied fonts? If that doesn't work I can't imagine what's wrong unless Valve messed up the OS recognition and treats XP differently.

Yea I did, the text looks completely different without it. Not sure why it does that, everything else looks the way it should from what I can tell.

I designed it around those fonts so it gets a bit wonky without them.

This is going back to the basics, but you put the theme in the skins folder and not Steam's main directory, right? If so (and if you haven't done so already), delete the folder completely and download the latest version.I hope one of these work.

I actually had my main rig's HDD in my XP rig (hence most of my games being installed), so it was the same steam install, I just redownloaded the skin to install the fonts in XP. I already tried all that, including installing Steam from scratch but nothing worked.

Can't test it out anymore though because I put another gig of RAM in the XP rig and installed 7.

I just can't use XP anymore despite the fact I miss the custom visual styles.

Alright, now that you're back on 7 there shouldn't be any issues. We'll just tuck it under the rug. :p

Very nice (Y) I'm no fan of Metro but in this case it works really really well :happy: good job :)

It feels great to hear praise from someone who isn't even a fan of Metro. Thanks! :)

New screenshots!

Changes:

  • Bug Fixes
  • New Controls
  • Window Borders - easier separation between windows
  • Redesigned Friends List
  • New Notifications
  • New Overlay Style - a slim version with just the bar shown and another version with the friends, achievements, and screenshot boxes
  • Slimmed down main window header
  • Border below header for contrast between the header and library, also acts as a container for the progress bar (see progress bar screenshot to see it in action)
  • Cog icon to replace menu text, can be seen in the main window as well as the friend's list

That's what I have so far. I'd like to iron out a few more of the reported bugs and finish the overlay browser before I release this update. It's shaping up to be a big one!

    • I like the show more options. The only problem with it is that it's not always in a consistent spot in the menu. If the copy/paste/cut, happens to show on top, then more option is the last in the menu. But if copy/paste/cut happens to show on the bottom, then more options is before the copy/paste/cut. But I do like the more options because it hides the stuff that I rarely use. But I would like to choose what it is or isn't hiding. That would make it better.
    • I wonder if "put it back the way it was for decades" ever crossed their minds? 🤣
    • Rescind the stupid "Show more options" in context menus and just give us the full menu instead of adding more steps to get to what we want. The "simpler by default" makes me think they'll go in the opposite direction. Every context menu should have a configure button so you can pick and choose what options should be shown, I know you can do that with some registry fu but that shouldn't be required.
    • This is why competition must exist. Finally, pressure is mounting on Microsoft to move in the right direction.
    • Microsoft is making Windows 11's context menus faster, simpler, and configurable by Taras Buria Five years ago, Windows 11 introduced redesigned context menus, offering users a simpler, more modern design. However, customers quickly discovered that the new menus leave a lot to be desired. Many are unhappy with performance (they are really slow), while others dislike the double-layed design, where many options are hidden behind the "Show more options" button. In addition, over the years, menus became cluttered and overloaded. While Microsoft has already fixed plenty of pain points across Windows 11, context menus remain mostly unchanged. Fortunately, Microsoft is finally listening. Marcus Ash, Design and Research Lead for Windows at Microsoft, responded to a tweet on X, confirming that the company is working on fixing Windows 11's context menus. Reworked context menus are supposed to be faster, simpler by default, and "configurable to what you use most." What the latter means is unknown, just like whether Microsoft plans to keep the classic menu alongside the modern one, but according to Marcus, the wait should finally be over soon, as he promised to "share our approach soon." Improved context menus will most likely appear first in Windows 11 preview builds in the Experimental Channel. While we wait for Microsoft to release them, you can try fixing context menus on your PC with a simple tool called Windows 11 Context Menu Manager. It lets you disable entries you do not need, not only cleaning up context menus, but also making them significantly faster. Microsoft has already improved Windows 11's Start menu and taskbar, so hopefully it will address user criticism of the context menu as well. Stay tuned for new Windows 11 preview builds, which usually arrive every Friday.
