I'm having a strange bug on 2.0 of the skin. When I am using the skin. My CPU usage goes up to 25 percent and my CPU fan starts to kick in it's noise after a while. But when I go to the default Steam skin. My CPU usage is back down to 0 percent with the same windows (chat box and friends list) and my fan drops about 1000 RPM.

As Explore said, Steam seems to use 100% of a core sometimes. I narrowed it down to the friendslist on my end.

Unfortunately this is an issue with the friend's list while using custom skins. Even if I copied and pasted the default theme and loaded it as a custom skin it would do the same thing and I'm not sure why it happens.

I attempted to contact a few people at Valve to ask some questions but I was told Steam skins aren't supported anymore so they couldn't help me.

That's such a shame, hopefully this will be rectified in a later Steam update. Been using the skin since 1.2 and have really liked it.

Alright, I just got around to downloading the other skins I used to use and I noticed this issue isn't present with any of them, so I'm thinking there's something somewhere that doesn't work properly.

The skins are Aquatic, Apparition and Enhanced Steam by TDD.

Maybe you could contact the makers of these skins to see if they ran into a similar issue and how they fixed it? :o

Hmm, I really don't know why it would act this way. I'm going to remove my skinned file and replace it with the default and work from the ground up. There has to be an obvious explanation for this one.

Edit:

Fixed it. :)

I'm honestly pretty frustrated by the fact that skins don't react the way they should. If you edit the files directly in the Steam directory the client updates in real time and I can actually change/add controls. None of which are possible through a skin. This makes development painful having to restart the client after every single change, and I simply can't change certain things at all.

I'm going to try adding a few Valve employees on Steam and see if I can ask them a few questions. I imagine allowing skins to do the above wouldn't be all that difficult for a developer. Also, if anyone has any contacts at Valve that can act as a middle-man for me in possibly addressing these issues it'd be immensely appreciated.

Haha, I feel you. I wasn't sure if I should post again since all I really have to say is more of the same.

In any case, good job!

Thank you!

2.2.1 Hotfix Release - Download

What's New in 2.2.1:

Chat:

  • Fixed Status Bar text positioning

Downloads:

  • Temporarily removed icons to avoid localization issues

Wow, that was fast. I came to write about bugs with new Community beta and saw there is already version which fixed them. Great :)

I need to make up for how long it took to get 2.0 and 2.1 out! :p

Sorry for the double post but I wanted to get the news out that I have a Steam Group for the skin now. This will be the perfect way to make update announcements and post progress reports. The new Steam Community update will have support for message boards as well so that could be useful, perhaps for bug reports and suggestions.

I encourage all users of the skin to join so at the very least you'll be notified when a new version is released!

I noticed something that this skin is missing today. it doesn't have a loading animation indicator anywhere (that's rather important IMO as steam is rather slow on loading things sometimes, and that spinning animation helps show that it's actually doing something)

Steam Community 8/22 Update Hotfix - 2.2.2 - Download

This release removes the newly added links under Community and moves them to the menu.

Awesome! (Y) this skin just gets better and better! this is now my default steam skin  keep up the awesome work!

Thank you! :)

Great skin. Fits Windows 8 much better. But I have found an issue. There is no difference that I can notice between active and inactive window.

Thanks. I'm not so sure what I'd be able to do to differentiate the two all that easily. I don't have control over anything like a shadow, for example. I'd imagine Steam pulls the shadows from Windows though, which should be different when inactive vs. active. I'm using Windows 8 which has practically no shadow at all, though.

I'm really stuck with the loading animation. The default is really ugly and replacing it isn't that easy. Each frame is a separate TGA and my animation is far more complex than the default, which only has a few frames. I made a nice one that I really wanted to implement too. I'm still looking into it.

Maybe change the color of the inactive windows slightly? Can that be done?

LibreWolf is designed to increase protection against tracking and fingerprinting techniques, while also including a few security improvements. This is achieved through our privacy and security oriented settings and patches. LibreWolf also aims to remove all the telemetry, data collection and annoyances, as well as disabling anti-freedom features like DRM. LibreWolf features: Latest Firefox — LibreWolf is compiled directly from the latest build of Firefox Stable. You will have the the latest features, and security updates. Independent Build — LibreWolf uses a build independent of Firefox and has its own settings, profile folder and installation path. As a result, it can be installed alongside Firefox or any other browser. No phoning home — Embedded server links and other calling home functions are removed. In other words, minimal background connections by default. User settings updates Extensions firewall: limit internet access for extensions. Strip tracking elements from URLs, both natively and through uBO. Enable dFPI, also known as Total Cookie Protection. Enable RFP which is part of the Tor Uplift project. RFP is considered the best in class anti-fingerprinting solution, and its goal is to make users look the same and cover as many metrics as possible, in an effort to block fingerprinting techniques. Always display user language as en-US to websites, in order to protect the language used in the browser and in the OS. Disable WebGL, as it is a strong fingerprinting vector. • Gf needed a new Surface and was looking at a Surface Laptop because of the Snapdragon. Seeing as it was a two year old chip she just decided to get a Lenovo Yoga 2 in 1 instead. Personally this Surface Ultra Cassis reminds me a bit of Razor. It would be interesting if it could handle proper gaming and be 17 inch.
    • No idea, frankly, I'm not into minimum requirements gaming, but it would be an interesting test to find out. Also, I just have to point out that it wasn't my intention to downplay the performance of DXVK on Linux or Linux gaming in general (despite my own experience being a bit of a mixed bag). I just thought it would be good to point out that DXVK is not Linux exclusive and that you can benefit from using it even in Windows.
