iPhone Migration Question

Recommended Posts

I plan to sell my iPhone 4 this week.

Can I migrate my purchased apps to another user?

What steps do I need to take prior to turning the phone over to the other person?

With previous non-Apple phones, I would take out the SIM and memory cards, and then I would perform a system reset.

What do people recommend with iPhones?

Thanks for the guidance.

your purchased apps are tied to your apple id (email address) - so you could just plug in another apple phone and move them over.

(i am assuming you are keeping your apps since you can't resell your purchased apps legally)

you can do an erase all content on the phone - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2110

this is actually more detailed: http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/how_to_erase_your_iphone_before_sale_or_trade/

Thanks Packet, I was actually curious if I could do both of these things...

Since I do not want the apps any more. I want to

1. Give some to my wife

2. Give some to the new phone owner.

I want to transfer ownership, not copy ownership. Is this not possible?

Its not possible to transfer ownership of the apps. The apps are tied to the Apple ID. You can violate the TOS and transfer your Apple ID to another person. All of the contact fields can be changed, so that should be a problem. That person would have access to everything you purchased with your Apple ID.

But no, you can't transfer the rights of using an application to another person/Apple ID.
