Wii U could retail for $300

$300 for the Wii U is reasonable, that'll put pressure on Microsoft and Sony. Doubt either of them will be able to afford launching at higher than $450.

Of course, getting my 360 for $130, and paying $20 extra for the hard drive (second hand), means I'd be paying $300 for an incremental upgrade on what I already have, so in all likelihood I'd wait for a killer Wii U sale.

The controller would also be an issue. If the tabtroller is comfortable to hold I'm more likely to buy it, if it's uncomfortable, I'll skip the system entirely.

People don't buy nintendo products for the graphics, rather the games. Franchises like Mario and Zelda always had enough brand power and quality to get people to buy it, even as a secondary console.

No you don't, but you can see how badly the Wii has fared now on HD screens and alike, I would absolutely hate to be running 360 rate graphics for another 6 years and paying more for a new device to do so. Having a screen in the controller isn't going to wow the casuals into as much buying as the Wii got.

yes having a screen in the controller will wow some or most if the game makes great use of it or your favorite FPS gets some augmented reality feature to make good use of the screen and the Wii U has a few generations leap in hardware over the 360 so no you wont see another 6 years of 360 quality only graphics ( Wii U does not recycle 6+ year old hardware used by the competitor ) if it did the controller with the screen would suck big time because 360 level hardware or Ps3 level hardware is not strong enough to do any sort of Wireless video real time streaming of augmented stuff nor action stuff let alone GPU and CPU heavy type stuff

I dunno, for a Nintendo console with what is believed to be weaker specs than the rest of the current generation and seems almost like a mid generation release, I think $ 300 sounds a bit steep... I hope them the best, but the more I hear about the Wii U the more problematic it sounds...

95% of the rumours have put the WiiU at notably more powerful than the 360 & PS3.

I take it you've only seen the rumors posted here, at neowin, which always (and only) focus on the ones that say it's weaker.
