Thats my birthright, not debateable

Unless you were born previous to 1707 (when Shetland became part of Great Britain), you are a British Citizen. Hold up now, what's your passport say?

I don't understand this whole "I'm not British" thing. I am English, yes. That does not preclude me from being British, European or Earthling. It in-fact dictates that I am.

I had a German tutor at Uni and you could tell he was proud of Germany. He was keen to stress how progressive Weimar Germany was, cinema, art, literature etc. I dont think what came after should mean everything good should be dismissed.

Don't get me wrong, I'm well aware of what all has originated from Germany in terms of culture, philosophy, inventions, scientifical progress. Still - thanks to my upbringing I find it difficult to be proud of my nationality.

I hear you lol, but Shetland is my homeland, Scotland is my nation thats where my pride in my nationality lies,

Proud of my nationality? I can't say I am.

You should be Germany is a great country! Long and incredible history, amazing beer, friendly people and I think Germanic women are some of the most beautiful women in the world!

I am proud to be Canadian because Canada is a land filled with multiculturalism, comprised of people from all ethnicities, so much so, that in major metropolis centres of the country there are far fewer Caucasian citizens that foreign ethnicities. That takes the cake for me: Canada's wide appeal as a place where diversity brings people together as opposed to segregating them.

And of course most people have heard the "You know you are Canadian when?" My favourite one includes the one used in the Tide commercial:

?No self respecting Canadian says "let?s wait for a warmer day." -- Because much of the time, a warmer day is a long way off :p

Cheers

That's fair, as a Canadian myself I know exactly what you mean, however unlike you.. I don't like being a minority which is what is happening. Where I live there are dollar stores beside every Tim Hortons.. and if you live in a city with a tonne of Timmies, you know exactly what I mean. And every dollar store is owned by a different Indian or Asian family.

Now, I am not Racist nor do I want them to Leave, and what I say may come off that way, but my point is that I don't like being a minority and multi-culturalism isn't something I am proud to say my country does.

However, I am proud that the fact I can vote, drink alcohol, etc when I so decide. I am not forced to do something, and have the freedom to choose. I am proud of the fact that we aren't guerrilla run, nor is it a dictatorship. I am proud that I can walk down the street without a big risk of being shot.

I'll never understand why someone would be proud of their nationaility. It seems very pompous.

I mean, I can see why one might love the culture and history of their country and want to be a part of that, but to be proud of it? There is a tasteless air of self importance about national pride.

The only decent things listed in your lunatic post are the booze and food.

I'm gonna assume you're portuguese as well:

Really? You don't even like some of the monuments, the beaches, and the literature? That's sad. :(

Wrong.

You're a principle of England, being Wales is our principality.

You're British as England is part of Britain.

B.T.W.

Happy St. Georges day!

I am proud as I live in a near democracy and things polictically are getting better since that socialist party were voted out.

I'm proud of what my country has done in terms of history, and I'm proud of what my past family has done for this country, but to be proud of the country, nope.

This country is a joke, and is run by idiots.

On the flip side, we have UK politics, and it's utter ****, especially with immigration.

This.

I saw 2 images floating around the Internet a few years ago, shame I can't find them now. It was of the Union Jack done in the colours of the Pakistan flag (green and white), with the moon and star in the middle.

I also found an image once of the Pakistan colours / flag done as the United Kingdom map.

Totally wrong and sick in so many ways.

I despise my background ... want them all to die without any remorse (however my wife is of the same background as me ... not happy about it) ...

My current nationality is Canadian and I love it ... I embrace it and proud to be a Canadian. --- It offered everything and more that my previous nation/country did not. Obviously it has some drawbacks but I turn a blind eye to them.

I like the freedom most of all and the opportunities to realize and do or at least attain some of my dreams.

Coming from an European background would not mind being part of the following countries though:

Sweden/Germany/Norway/Russia <-- bit scared though there/Ireland/S.Korea/China(HK)/Antarctica <-- a bit cold but who knows all might melt

Things I have with the stupidity fo the Canadian government (Cell use/pricing, Internet, Immigration, Highway Speeds, House Pricing, Health Care <-- must be better)

Aside from what sh*thole my country India has become, im proud of its rich history and culture, it is known for world's first civilization, people from every part of world came to conquer it, stayed here and accepted it culture. Home to almost every human race, with hundreds of different cultures and traditions, having people from every religion, who get along really well. If you go to east you will see mixture of Indian and East Asian countries, If you go south you see the real Indian culture ( as Dravidian were the real native Indians ), If you go north and west, you see mixture of Indian and Middle eastern culture.

In past it was known for its Scientific, mathematical and medical knowledge and researches, Scientists from whole Asia and middle east used to gather here.

man i can go on and on, but im tired of typing. :p

South Africans have great resilience and a strong fighting spirit and overall are good and kind people.

this thread was making me laugh. i love everyone's patriotic opinions that are pronounced as fact

i'm proud of <country> b/c we have the best beaches in the world!

i'm proud of <country> b/c we have the best women in the world!

that being said, as an american, i know for a fact that we dont have the best women in the world  i think anyone can agree w/ that

I am an Indian and though current time is not so good, I will focus on the things that make me proud which is what the thread asked for:

We are culturally diverse country, you can visit different places and you will find great differences in the way of living.

The ancient civilization started here.

We had great knowledge of science, maths, and medicine in ancient times. Aryabhatta discovered the concept of 0.

We had sanskrit, from which other languages originated from.

Yoga and ayurveda originated from here, which makes world healthy.

Kama Sutra! ;)

Great philosophers and politicians like Chanakya who stopped and defeated the great Alexander.

Vedas, upanaishadas, Geeta and other books with abundance of knowledge. Though everybody claims different things because nobody reads the books themselves, but the original book contains good knowledge.

We are awesome in Cricket and won the World Cup last year.

India have never attacked another country in the history, ever.

We were very rich and that's why British attacked us.

Bhagat Singh, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, and like radicals which gave up their life for our nation's freedom.

Gandhi ji, who fought without violence and got us our freedom.

We are a great rising economy and power.

We have smart engineers and doctors. Our engineers are in great places all over the world.

The great Indian army.

IITs and IIMs, one of the best technical and management universities all over the world, and they have very tough entrance exams JEE and CAT which have very low selection ratio.

The Indian cuisine, we love food and we love our spices!

Very great mass communication, so many news channels and papers in many variety of languages.

We have still great family values.

Sari, the elegant dress that can be sexy when needed.

Indian women, mix of beauty and class and they are of independent thoughts without being a feminist zealot.

Spiritualism in India.

Jugaad or making things work. We rock in making useful things with scraps.

Respect for guests or "Athiti Devo Bhava"(literally Guest is God). If food is scarce, host will make the guest eat and remain hungry himself. We treat guests with utmost honor and humbleness.

Much more, but you get the idea that we are awesome! :punk:

1. The constitution and the 1st amendment.

2. 2nd amendment (without the second amendment the first will no longer be relevant)

3. Genius's like Bill Gates,Steve Jobs, Samuel Colt,John Moses Browning, The Wright brothers and so many others.

4. Our military, its strength and technology is nearly unmatched, some countries may have larger numbers but they aren't as battle proven.

5. Google,Yahoo,Amazon and numerous other American websites that make it easy to search and shop.

6. The United States geography, I don't need to leave the country to go to a beautiful beach or take a trip to the mountains, or the desert.

7. American cars, they may not be Ferrari's or Lambo's but here a relatively fast car like a Corvette is not out of reach.

8.Guns,it goes along with the second amendment but i'm talking about models and makes, like Colt,Mossberg,Remington,Smith&Wesson and so on.

9. Music and television, Without America the Beatles,Rolling Stones and so many other foreign bands wouldn't have been such a global success. Also American movies and American music.

10. Our government yes I don't like it at times but its better than a lot of socialist governments in Europe.

11. Our heritage, People left Europe to start new lives here etc.

12. Our Athletes, With the Olympics coming up soon I'm sure the U.S will rack up a healthy amount of gold medals.

13. The weather here you can live in pretty much any climate you wish, Don't like snow? move to Florida or California (certain parts of CA).

14. Southern cousine, it may not be the healthiest but its good.

15.The core value's of America (which is under fire at the moment). The can do attitude, the attitude where you aren't entitled to anything. The thought that if you work hard you can accomplish your dreams.

16. Wal-Mart and other big stores. No not because I like to shop there but because they became successful multi-billion dollar business's. Some hate corporations but it just proves that you can be successful in the U.S

17.GPS, Thank you to the engineers at MIT I no longer get lost on long road trips across the country.

18. Gibson les paul guitars.

19. Cheap Gas, compared to Europe.

20. Rock and Roll without that American form of music the Beatles,Rolling Stones,Def Leppard,Queen and so many other's wouldn't have existed.

So there's my 20 on why i'm proud to live in the U.S.

And before anyone hates on me.

    • Apple CEO Tim Cook confirms looming price hikes due to memory shortages by Hamid Ganji Image via Apple Memory and chip shortages have led to significant price increases for electronics over the past year, and it seems that more hikes are on the way for upcoming smartphones and computers. Apple CEO Tim Cook has confirmed that the company is planning to increase the prices of some of its products due to the ongoing memory and storage shortages. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Cook confirmed the looming price hikes for Apple’s future products, adding that “Unfortunately, price increases are unavoidable.” He also said the company is doing its best to “mitigate the huge increases that are being passed to us, and we’ve been trying to shield our customers from the increases, but the situation has become unsustainable.” The Apple CEO also noted that the allocation of a large portion of memory chips to AI companies has contributed to shortages in the market, resulting in lower supply at a time when demand for devices remains high. “We definitely need memory pricing and supply to return to reasonable levels for consumer products. That’s the bottom line,” Cook said. Cook also added that Apple is ready to use its vast cash reserves to help boost supply in the market because additional production capacity is needed. While he declined to specify how Apple plans to do that, he said the company will not build its own memory and storage factories despite its financial resources and silicon expertise. Cook did not provide further details on the scale of the price increases or which Apple products would be affected, though iPads and Macs could see higher prices sooner than other products. Apple’s next product launch event is scheduled for September, when the company is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and its first foldable iPhone. It remains unclear whether the upcoming iPhones will be affected by the price increases, but given the current memory shortage, higher prices seem increasingly likely. There is currently no clear timeline for the end of the memory shortage. Samsung, one of the world’s three largest memory chip manufacturers, recently said the shortage could persist for several more years.

    • +1000 to this, don't understand why they added that margin around the top bar, even the close button is a PITA to click without aiming. Ofc, this is just preview and hopefully they will revert such odd UX decision before hitting final version.
