Anyone excited about BlackBerry 10?

They need to grab the enterprise market.

  • Reliable hardware
  • Reliable software
  • Out-of-the-box support for both open and closed formats

I think they are not able to project themselves as such. Lately they are trying to woo the youth. I wonder where their focus is.

I'm more excited about this than anything non-webOS related in the smartphone world atm. I think the OS is leaps and bounds ahead of iOS and Android (ICS) both in terms of features and presentation/polish. It borrows a LOT from webOS and seems to be a great multitasking device. From the look of things it will be coming out on very solid hardware and have excellent battery life (all the BB10 devices). App selection is improved greatly over the current BB7. Really, what's not to like?

I guess I'm at least a bit interested to see what RIM will bring to the table. I'm having a really hard time choosing my next phone:

- Android is still a fragmented mess in my opinion, I hate all the custom interfaces, it takes ages before updates are released, apps are of lower quality than on iOS and I haven't seen an Android phone design I'd truly like for a while now.

- While owning a new iPad and loving the thing, iOS is starting to feel boring. The OS as a whole looks largely the same since its initial release. Been there, done that.

- Windows Phone appeals the most to me at this point. It looks radically different from the rest, but the uncertainty of being able to upgrade to Apollo (WP8) makes me doubt here as well. Then there's the lack of third-party apps and questionable Mac support.

Really nice how RIM screws over all their current customers by refusing to release BB OS10 for current phones. I just "upgraded" my BlackBerry Torch 9860 to OS 7.1 and can't say it brought any of the much needed improvements. Not that I expected it to. I'm actually thinking about sending the company a letter describing my BlackBerry experience so far: A total loss. (N)
