Hey guys,

We got the ICS upgrade here on Bell Canada for the Galaxy S2. All in all it didn't really make that much of a difference for my uses, however my 2011 Kia Optima with UVO no longer pairs successfully with the phone. I get constant messages on my phone that says Kia Motors (the bluetooth name for car) is requesting a phonebook download and it pops up continually whether I press OK or Cancel until I either turn off the car or delete it from the bluetooth devices list.

I am extremely unhappy that my phone no longer works in the car, and I want to revert back but of course you can't in Kies.

I am not familiar with using Odin or flashing custom roms, but I don't see that I have a choice as I need my phone to work through my car.

I'm hoping someone who is savy with Android can give me a hand here.

I downloaded the file GT-I9100M_BMC_I9100MUGKG2_I9100MBMCKG2_I9100MUGKG2.tar from http://sky******.net...d/download.aspx (sky wa nk er.net)( (Firmwares -> Carrier -> Bell). I got the link from http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1113928, and although the link in that post didn't work, I am assuming I am selecting the right file here?

Do I just plug this file into the PDA section of Odin and that's it? Nothing for CSC or PHONE? The file is a tar.md5 and I can't seem to open it with 7zip so I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be extracting it or just plugging it into the PDA section of odin like I said.

Extremely nervous about breaking my phone, this ICS upgrade has been a horrible experience.

Thank you for anyone who can help me out.

Well I did it and now my phone is in a constant loop showing the Galaxy 2 splash intro over and over again. Think I broke it?

I can't even turn it off now.

I am so ****ed off.

You need to take it into your carrier and get it repaired. Are you able to give more details about your car - make/model/the headset unit?

Yeah, I am attempting to flash it again but figure it won't work. Taking out the battery and then putting it back in, then I can hold down volume, home and power to get into download mode.

The car is a 2011 Optima with Microsoft UVO in it, reading multiple forums before I attempted to flash it revealed lots of other people having problems with their BT connections in Uvo/Sync systems as well.

Same thing, boot loop.

People say I should be able to hold down the volume down button and press power to get to a series of menus to perform a hard reset, but mine doesn't it goes right into "Odin Mode" and says downloading.

Did you clear everything I said?

I can't do a factory reset because it won't go into recovery mode (holding volume up + power)

It shows the Logo and then plays the video instead of showing my the android and box guy that I am supposed to be seeing.

Edit - Holding the home button down with volume up worked to get me into recovery mode.

It's doing a factory reset now. We'll see how it goes.

Edit 2 - It's working again, thanks guys for the help!

You need to upgrade your head unit, not downgrade the phone, there has top be a way of updating the OS on your car's head unit, considering it's a fairly new car, Kia might do it free, or should at least

You were lucky to get it to sync at all, MS's crap sync barely works with Windows Mobile/WP7, let alone any other mobile OS

    • If you don't care to read what I said, then you prove my point. Maybe written media is beyond your attention span. Titles are not summaries my friend.
    • Nobody asked... in fact, I said "I don't care about political leanings"
    • TLDR. Here is a far better title (just a basic example): Windows 11 26H2 to allow disabling Web search results
    • Restore will get my vote, only if to see if things are any different, doubt it though but Labour and Conservatives too out of touch and same thing over and over and over…, Lib Dem who?
    • There is nothing wrong with this title. You have completely missed the plot when it comes to "clickbait." The issue was never that a title tries to entice you to click, that is how titles have worked for over 100 years. The issue is when the title subverts expectations, getting you to click expecting something that isn't there. The classic clickbait example is "Boyfriend caught cheating, what happens next will shock you," then what happened next is the girlfriend was upset...which is probably the least shocking outcome imaginable. If sounds like what you want is for the titles to be a collection of 10-word summaries that you can skim, get the just of the story, and only click if you want more details. That is not, never has been, and never will be what titles are. You can go all the way back to print newspapers during the great depression and see the same thing. The newspaper was locked in a vending machine, all you can see is the headline, you choose to put in 5¢ to buy the paper and read the rest if you want. Those headlines were written in a way to sell the paper, not just to provide a summery. Here are two actual headlines from that time, "Wall Street Lays an Egg," or "Stocks Hit Bottom?" Maybe you'd say something like "it was wrong then and it's still wrong now." Okay, fine opinion to have, but it isn't like Neowin is doing something unjurnalistic, they are just following the age-old standards for written media.
