DayZ for Arma II

Recommended Posts

Myself and a clan mate of mine have got it up and running. So if anyone fancies teaming up add me on Steam - c0agulated

We've also got a TeamSpeak server for comms.

We're UK Based and will probably be playing quite a bit of it over the next 36 hours or so!

:)

Just taken the plunge & purchased ArmA 2 + Operation Arrowhead from Steam for ?24.99. Too excited to wait for a drop in price so just went for it! Won't be playing until tomorrow though as to download 15GB it'll take me between 5-7 Hours according to Steam.

whats the cheapest we can get this in the US? I am really wanting to give this a try

I'm reading another option, instead of getting full versions of both, only really need the multiplayer of ARMAII.

can do Arma II Free, thn get operation arrowhead, save some bucks

There is a post about it in the DayZ forums

I really want to play this game now, reading peoples adventures on it. RPS diaries make it sound so good.

Gamersgate looks the cheapest at the moment. I have a feeling though that there will be some sales soon for it as this mod has really blown up.

Edit: Just got it. Gotta go through the nice big download now. Will be on tonight to give it a go hopefully.

The ArmA II multiplayer looks great fun too.

I managed to finally download all 15GB this rmoning and got the DayZ Mod all set up and ready to go.

Finding a server is an absolute mission in its own right!! I got in to one server which was a 'Hardcore' server and I died within 20 minutes.

I am hoping to find a decent server soon, but its hard as the majority are always full!!

Not sure if my textures are ok, as I seem to have a lot of white bits on the ground, might look in to that. But I have taken a break now as it is becoming stressful trying to just get in to a game! So I am now installing Diablo 3.

I'll try DayZ again later.

It was weird as I was in an EU Server then an 'Admin' popped up in chat and reset the server. That seemed to do the trick!

So due to it being about 9.30pm, once loaded in to the game it was pitch black due to the Real Time. So I spawned my new character by the coast, it was pitch black so I sparked up a flare and started walking down the road. Arrived in a town that was full of zeds, they chased me, I killed a couple but there was too many and basically they got me to the floor & I think a leg may of broken because I couldnt get back up and it was a slow death from then on!

I then joined a US server and it was day time, however my textures where messed up so I spent about 30 minutes sorting that out. I then joined another US Server and was walking down the train track and some chode decided to shoot me and kill me.

I finally got in this afternoon!

I went on a EU server so it was light. First thing i did was leg it into the trees and make my way to a high point. I found some ruins and saw a big castle tower so i thought that'd be a good place to loot/hide. Got in there and saw a guy laying down and he was highlighted as a bandit, so i legged it.

While running i ran into a massive open area and found my first zombie, killed him. Soon after that i made it to a farm with a few zombies, ran out of ammo killing them and one decided to chase me, i want to the coast in the hope a survivor might be there. So i kept running along a road till i got to a town (zombie still chasing me). Where i was greeted by more zombies, so i kept running (now there must be about 10 chasing me). I ran for about 20 minutes and in the end i just gave up and let them kill me.

My second go, i found my first open building where i got some loot from, bandages, food and soda. Now i'm heading inland where i logged off because i need to get back to work.

Enjoying it so far. Although it uses ArmA controls which can be a bit clunky, like the "action" menu.

I've found it's easier to get into v1.5.6 servers if you're just dying to play.

Basically all you have to do is almost identical to how you installed the v1.5.7 mod.

-Extract the v1.5.7 files to another folder, call it something like '@dayz1\Addons' in 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead' (or wherever you have it installed)

-Download the v1.5.6 files from http://cdn.armafiles.info/old/

-Extract those to the same place; 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\@dayz1\Addons'

-Click 'Yes To All' when it asks if you want to overwrite the files.

-And change your 'Set Launch Options' in Steam to '-mod=@dayz1 -nosplash' and you're good to launch versions v1.5.6.

-If you want to change it back to launch v1.5.7 just change the launch options back to '-mod=@dayz -nosplash'.

Major differences between V1.5.6 - V1.5.7:

V1.5.6 less zombies with more simplistic path finding (They tend to wander less and are more predictable)

V1.5.7 has more zombies and zombies have improved path finding (They tend to wander more and aren't as predictable)

Played some more last night.

What an awesome experience. I was entering a town and on the chat it says guy with the flare, friendly? of course i was. I entered and the town was occupied by a group of players, sharing gear to passers by. I was already pretty tooled up, i found a barn which had some decent gear not so far away. I did break some bones in it when i tried to skip the stairs.

The lighting in this game is brilliant, when it gets dark, it is brilliant how little you see, especially when entering a forest. Shame that on one server a guy was suggesting people to turn up brightness and gamma. Another good thing is when it is dark and people shoot you can see their muzzle flash in the distance which helps you locate survivors/bandits.

I still hope he develops the option for the server admin to set the day/night cycle speed as real time is a little too long. Especially for me who can only really play in the evenings. By the time i get on, the sun is setting

Glad you have managed to play some more Lingwo, I managed some more yesterday as well before dying and the server issues came back.

DayZ Devs on Twitter have recognised the issue and are doing their best to sort it out, so at least they are doing something about it!

I went on a right mission yesterday, managed to stay alive for about 40 minutes. I spawned by the coast as usually and made my way up the hill via the dirt track. I seemed to be running for miles and wasnt coming across anything, no survivors, bandits, towns or zeds. Well I finally saw a town in the distance and thought I'd go investigate, so I got closer and closer before I noticed the Zeds surrounding the place. Unfortunately a couple spotted me and ran over, I soon popped off 3 and hid their bodies.

I wasn't going any where near that town now so proceeded to run along the path until I came across another town. Ctopoe (i think was it's name). I managed to get into the centre of the town, before being spotted by yet more Zeds. I was in trouble, big trouble, all I could hear were the screams of the zeds behind me as I ran trying to find a building I could access and try to get in. I came across a door that was open, I got in and tried closing the door, but it was too late, at least 6-7 zeds and got in and I was trapped. I was short of ammo and before I knew it my bones were being broken and I was on the floor, unable to move and defend myself. I just laid there as they took me apart before I knew it the 'You are Dead' screen appeared.

I called it a night and hopefully will be playing some more. Would be good to get a few of us together on the same server to makle a group and go about it.

Zeds love towns. if you go prone, you can almost bump into their legs without them seeing you. If you want to advance though, you will either need to find some survivors to group with or get into barns, towns and loot the buildings.

I am currently in an abandoned warehouse trying to find a water pump or some soda as i am in desperate need of some water. There is a town not far from it but it is infested with Zeds.

So anyone up for a game of this somewhen, would be good to get a Neowin group going. I've bumped into Scazza twice now while playing the "waiting for server response" simulator but we've never managed to get a in a game yet.

Would be good to a few of us one evening and get a game going. I don't know how to group up in ArmA though. I think people use Steam to chat within groups.

Lingwo, I left that server and logged on to a US server that was working fine!

Had a terrible experience though, I spawned by the coast and ran for at least 40 minutes, I came across nothing! I started to feel sick I was running for so long! Finally found some telegraph poles which brought me to a town called 'MNUKWBO' i think. That was the end of me though. I tried crawling through the town, but I was spotted by zeds, at least 8 of the chased me. I killed 4 but then ran out of ammo. Found a barn and just came to terms with the fact that I was going to die! So just stood there and let the zombies kill me!

I am well up for getting a Neowin Group together and trying to make a go at this. My Steam Account Name is ScazzaUK, hit me up with a friends request.

I went into an EU one just after that fine also. It was just that UK one that was shot.

I managed to get on it today though, just spent the last hour in there before the server froze.

I think i was just about to get killed by a Bandit anyway.

I will add you on Steam. Just going to try and get Dayz working through Steam as mine is a non steam version.

God Dammit, just seen this:

ArmA II Combined Operations (Both ArmA II & Operation Arrowhead) is $14.99 from Amazon.com (Digital Download).

http://www.amazon.com/Meridian4-40365ned-Operations-ArmA2-Combined/dp/B003UV8RRE/ref=br_lf_m_1000800391_1_1_ttl?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&pf_rd_p=1369284262&pf_rd_s=center-5&pf_rd_t=1401&pf_rd_i=1000800391&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1Z9EGP2PZRN9MV7XB7HH

I paid ?25, so if anyone is looking at getting in DayZ cheap, now is the time!

I had a brilliant game last night.

Was in cherno on the firestation roof for hours and a group us were up there trying to survive. It was pitch black so we couldn't see a thing other than the flare we dropped. At one point i needed blood so i made the decision to get to the hospital where another survivor was who had bloodpacks. I had no flares or anything, being pitch black made sneaking very easy. All i had to do was find the hospital and the survivor dropped a flare on the roof so i could find it. I never did find it. The server lagged out and i was in the middle of cherno in the pitch black prone. So i think when i log back in, it'll be day time and i'll be easily picked off by bandits or a tw*t. Should be able to find the hospital ok though.

@Scazza, i can't get my game on Steam, i can add arma 2 but it won't let me add the command line to run DayZ. I stil did try add you as a friend though, as we can still setup where to meet on there.

    • Microsoft finally admits its default Windows 11 25H2, 24H2 action broke key legacy component by Sayan Sen Microsoft last week released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. So far the company has acknowledged two known issues that have popped up after the release which include bugged-out Office apps as well as the Recycle Bin; though there could be more at play too. Speaking of bugs and issues, Microsoft seems to have finally acknowledged a problem that probably has been around for close to a year. That's because back in July of 2025 the company made a default change to the latest Windows 11 versions, wherein it switched to JScript9Legacy on Windows 11 24H2 and later releases. Hence following the release of version 25H2 in October 2025, JScript9Legacy also remained default-enabled. As a result there has been a compatibility issue ever since then. For those wondering, by switching to JScript9Legacy Microsoft intended to improve the security of modern Windows PCs by reducing vulnerabilities tied to legacy scripting like cross-site scripting (XSS), among others. XSS exploits can allow cyber-attackers to attach malicious code onto legitimate websites and use them to execute the code when a potential victim loads such a website. Hence the new JScript9Legacy engine enforced stricter execution policies and improved object handling, which should help mitigate such attacks. Microsoft today has published a new support article detailing the problem. Neowin spotted it while browsing. The company says that JScript global definitions and execution context may fail to persist across scripts, potentially breaking older dependent apps and web-based components that relied on this legacy behavior. In the article Microsoft has confirmed that the issue stems from its move away from the older jscript9.dll engine in favor of jscript9legacy.dll. As mentioned above, while the newer engine was designed to address vulnerabilities and strengthen security it also changes how JScript handles execution context. As a result functions and definitions loaded by one script could no longer remain available to subsequent scripts once execution ended. The company notes that some applications worked correctly on earlier Windows versions because the older JScript engine automatically retained global definitions and execution state between scripts. Under the newer model though that behavior is disabled by default causing certain legacy workloads and polyfill-dependent scripts to fail. Microsoft says it addressed the problem via the KB5077241 update though the fix had not been enabled automatically in the following updates. As such admins must explicitly turn on persistent JScript execution context using a Registry setting that the tech giant shared today. The configuration can be applied to individual processes or system-wide through the FEATURE_ENABLE_PERSISTENCE registry key. The steps have been outlined below: Run the following command to create the feature control registry key: reg add "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_ENABLE_PERSISTENCE" Under this key, create a new DWORD (32-bit) value. Configure the value as follows: To enable persistence for specific processes only: Set the value to 1 for each target process name. To enable persistence for all processes: Add * as the key name and set its value to 1. You can find the official support article here on Microsoft's website.
