DayZ for Arma II

Recommended Posts

Yep, i prefer to manually install it also. I keep all versions in separate folders, so if i need to roll back i can. You unrar the files to a @dayz folder. There is nothing difficult about that. The only time it requires a little more thought is when you install the beta patch (which is required for 1.7.1).

I suppose the auto updater will update the files when they are released and makes it easier than checking the site to see if it has been updated.

Getting sick of people who shoot on sight, its getting a bit boring now.

Spent over an hour making my way up to Stary Sobor, skirted my way around the town looking for bandits, I crawl over the top of a hill and someone starts shooting at me without warning, so i open up on him, he dies i have 600 blood, but he has AKS Kobra, loads of food, water, etc.. whats the point in risking all that against someone who only has a Makarov, he has nothing to gain by my death.

I have to agree with TheLegendOfMart about the amount of people who shoot on site now.

I was playing a couple nights ago and I had recently spawned with a new character, I had got to a Deer Stand and picked up a nice AK. I then start to head over to another one that was near by and in the chat I see "Scazza, Friendly?!" to which I reply "Yes".

A couple minutes later, I am being fired at! I fire off a bullets and it's this tool who asked if I was friendly shooting at me with his Pistol. He eventually ran out of ammo, to which he begged me not to kill him! I didn't as he was a new spawn and had nothing, but even after saying I was friendly he opened fire!

I agree, i know he wants it to be realistic but i've mentioned it in the DayZ forums but there needs to be a balance. Having no way to tell if a person is a bandit or not is leading to this shoot on sight. Some honestly do want to team up but it is difficult now to trust anyone, so you're always on edge. Some people have suggested maybe a bandit has the normal skin but has blood on it.

The main problem with the original way was once you went bandit and got the skin, it was very difficult to get your humanity back up to remove it because people just shoot at you on sight.

I'm sure Rocket has some ideas about it. I know he wants this realistic hardcore game but if he wants the mod to last and keep people coming to it, he needs to work on balancing it (which is what an alpha is for) because soon it will just be bandits shooting at bandits.

I think we'll start seeing gameplay changes when the team sort out the server bugs and the current problems.

v1.7.1 has been rolled out.

DayZ Mod 1.7.1 patch notes:

Performance and Optimization

  • Reduction/elimination of the new server lag. This is caused by the ArmA2 server expecting immediate response from the central server. Vehicles are the main cause of this, as whenever they are damaged everything stops while the server ensures this is recorded in the database.
  • Bugs fixed that were possibly causing very significant netcode overhead (will need mass-scale testing to verify this).

Infected Behavior

  • Infected can no longer see/attack through walls.
  • Entirely new mocap?d attack and running animations

Content

  • Additional Idle Infected sounds
  • Revised Attack sounds
  • Many new action sounds, including IV, bandaging etc?

Notes

  • This update will REQUIRE the beta patch, so it is worth installing this now and getting used to it.
  • Read up at the BI Forums about the beta patch install. It?s pretty easy.

I keep seeing people mention this mod and I've checked out several of the videos for it but I just don't understand all fuss - it looks terrible to me. The character models and animations are poor, the graphics are below average, the character speeds are simply ridiculous and the gameplay is completely unoriginal. Yet ARMA II: Combined Operations is the top seller on Steam almost entirely because of this mod and has been in the top sellers list for weeks now.

Can someone please explain why it is so popular?

i've watched a few gameplay vids, and believe me, this keeps you nice and stressed out! that's how I like my gameplay, and unoriginal? c'mon, a huge map, different time zones/times of day makes a pretty decent zombie survival game, also because of this mod they hired its mod creator, oh yeah. Anywhos, this game obviously won't appeal to all, but fun. looks def like it :D

Hate it, game uninstalled.

Sick of having to change the way I play the game every time he releases a patch to suit his whims. Keep the core mechanics the same but fix the game around it, don't force people to have to keep changing the whole way they play the game.

Frustrating as hell.

They are the same. Just now we spawn with no gun. Sure it changes the way we go about starting in the game but the core mechanics are the same. It is in alpha and we're playtesting to see if these changes work. If enough people don't like it. He'll change it back.

Glad to see the latest hotfix 1.7.1.2 introduces melee with a hatchet. Least that will give us some defence when hunting a gun down.

Yesterday me and Scazza were in Electro and we must have travelled about 100 yards in about an hour because we had no guns. Oh no, i had a crossbow with no bolts. We finally did get some guns and the server restarted

Also glad Rocket finally shut off all the debug messages in the chat. Plus Direct Chat seems to work now too.

They arent the same, they have line of sight vision but can now see further, you can't prone to crawl past zombies anymore you used to have 0 visibility when you crawled, now you have 1 visibility and even more if you crouch.

He won't change it back, all the people on Dayz forums are blowing smoke up his ass, for every 1 person who says they don't like it you get pages and pages of "omg lolz go play CoD ****"

True the majority of the community are idiots with the whole "carebear" and "cod kiddie" rubbish but i believe in the next month or so we'll see a more balanced solid game. He has added melee attacks now which was suggested a while back. Now the server issues seem to be slowing down, i reckon we'll see some more gameplay features.

I would still keep an eye on the game. I wouldn't write it off completely just yet.

I stopped playing it due to the spawn gear changes

All the people promoting the spawn itemless are the same ones camping people with sniper rifles and assault. They are happy for changes cause they have even less risk of dying.

I don't keep up on the forums much so I don't know what rationale they are kicking around but I don't see how this helps the game at all.

I'm having a hard time getting into a game right now, the servers I usually use are still not fully updated. I did get the SixUpdater app to work, much easier to find games and keep updated.

From what im reading the Zeds now aggro from over a block away, do more damage, and harder to kill. Increased AI for the zombies when aggroed causing Lag while running away. Food/drink is spawning alot less, with multiple people not finding food and water before their icons start blinking and they die from dehydration/hunger

Im assuming he wants it to be hardcore, its a game, and people dont play games to be hardcore. He wants it to be realistic, but h ealso says night ingame is realistic ( because of that i think hes blind ).

Essentually hes just doing anything and everything to find the perfect combo for the BI to releace a stand along game. And using all the free product/demographic( demographic is wrong word but cant think of right word ) testing can get ( nothing wrong with that )

Definitely, definitely!, agree with night in-game. Holy hell, that is a mess.

And the dehydration thing for me was already hard. Lost my last character because I was getting desperate for fluids - ended up aggroing zombies.

I understand he wants it to be hardcore but taking the spawn weapon away is crazy. At the very least just tweak the starting pistol a bit - I'd be fine with that.

Id be fine with the no weapon thing if spawns were all over the place randomly, not just 6 locations along the coast

Heck set it for say, 60 points you can spawn randomly at anywhere along the 225km2 location

Good point. Just played 3 games and died within 20 minutes each time. Once you aggro, its over, unless there is something I'm doing wrong. No weapon is doom. Also, the damn lighting in this game is really screwed up. It gets super dark then you take a step and it gets light. Makes it neigh impossible to see whats out in front of you. Grrr.

Watching the TotalBiscuit play through with Rocket himself. Unfortunately, they started the video with them already having weapons. Rocket did explain why he changed the starting spawn to no weapons: he wants to create a group atmosphere and see if people band together to survive. TB said when he initially spawned he robbed an AFK player for his items

Anyone from neowin going to be playing later? Want to group up?

Me and Lingwo will be playing later. I'm around all night tonight so will be playing a fair bit tonight! Add me to Steam (ScazzaUK) so we can chat and arrange a game tonight. Would be good to get a TeamSpeak server going too as talking via Direct Comms can still allow ppl near by us see what we are talking about.

I'm getting more and more frustrated with this game as time goes on.

I was playing with Lingwo & we were by the Docks, we spot a guy crawling about, he was a new survivor and seemed to have no weapon, we wished him luck and let him go on his way. As we walk the Docks Lingwo gets shot & killed. We don't know who by or where it came from. I run & narrowly miss being shot numerous times. I'm now on my own and I head out to kill some animals to kill and restore my health.

On show I have a crowbar as I start to kill a sheep. As I start to gut the sheep, this figure comes in to picture on my side, I look and it's the dude we saw crawling earlier welding a hatchet. He hits me with it, knocks me out and then kills me with it.

It's just becoming full of *******s, we could of killed him when we saw him, but we didnt because he was not being confrontational, I thought I'd get the same treatment but obviously not!

This guy that killed us too. I could have killed him so easily. The first time we saw him, i had a gun pointed at him. I'm still not sure how he killed me as i was crawling and rolling constantly and next thing my blood dropped to 500 and my bones were broke!

After that i spawned way back near Kamenka and died trying to make my way back. I was killed by the super Zombies seeing from miles away and crippling me with one hit. I just wish we'd spawn with something that we could use to defend ourselves. Even if it was a stick, that would still be relatively realistic. The only reason me and Scazza lasted as long as we did was because of the bug at the docks which was saving our bacon multiple times. At one point i somehow managed to attract at least 10 infected to us. I only took about 3 steps.

Still as frustrating as it is. It is still great fun playing with a group or someone else. Still can have a good laugh. The amount of times we ended up at the docks was hilarious.

    • Apple CEO Tim Cook confirms looming price hikes due to memory shortages by Hamid Ganji Image via Apple Memory and chip shortages have led to significant price increases for electronics over the past year, and it seems that more hikes are on the way for upcoming smartphones and computers. Apple CEO Tim Cook has confirmed that the company is planning to increase the prices of some of its products due to the ongoing memory and storage shortages. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Cook confirmed the looming price hikes for Apple’s future products, adding that “Unfortunately, price increases are unavoidable.” He also said the company is doing its best to “mitigate the huge increases that are being passed to us, and we’ve been trying to shield our customers from the increases, but the situation has become unsustainable.” The Apple CEO also noted that the allocation of a large portion of memory chips to AI companies has contributed to shortages in the market, resulting in lower supply at a time when demand for devices remains high. “We definitely need memory pricing and supply to return to reasonable levels for consumer products. That’s the bottom line,” Cook said. Cook also added that Apple is ready to use its vast cash reserves to help boost supply in the market because additional production capacity is needed. While he declined to specify how Apple plans to do that, he said the company will not build its own memory and storage factories despite its financial resources and silicon expertise. Cook did not provide further details on the scale of the price increases or which Apple products would be affected, though iPads and Macs could see higher prices sooner than other products. Apple’s next product launch event is scheduled for September, when the company is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and its first foldable iPhone. It remains unclear whether the upcoming iPhones will be affected by the price increases, but given the current memory shortage, higher prices seem increasingly likely. There is currently no clear timeline for the end of the memory shortage. Samsung, one of the world’s three largest memory chip manufacturers, recently said the shortage could persist for several more years.
    • Downloads does not equal actual usage, even less when the app is pre-installed in some Galaxy phones.
    • +1000 to this, don't understand why they added that margin around the top bar, even the close button is a PITA to click without aiming. Ofc, this is just preview and hopefully they will revert such odd UX decision before hitting final version.
