DayZ for Arma II

Recommended Posts

so I played about 15 mins and realized I am a horrible shot. I also find the blur looking around to kind of be annoying. Running with Arma II Free, and OA (full) and it works well. Some of the textures are crappy but that's cuz I didn't spend the extra 10$ for full Arma II.

Make sure your 3D resolution is the same as the game resolution. To stop blurring, also you can switch off Motion blur.

Tap the right mouse button to use iron sights to aim. You might have better luck with that. Also stay off veteran difficulty servers as they'll remove the cross hair making it a nightmare to shoot.

well got 1 trade off for another.

Last night i made it to Stary Sobor, while in the Grocery Store i guess my finger shifted on the W key, making me sprint for a brief time, enough to aggro a zombie. the zombie or my getting prone to close to a wall broke my legs. and i didnt have any morphine.

so after crawling around town for over an hour, i set up the tent i got earlier that night. and put a Silenced MP5SD6 and alot of mags as well as other stuff ( compas watch, matches, bla bla bla bla )

i got lost running back to it after respawn, so ended up making it back today, it was all gone, but replaced with other stuff that was decent, an AK-74 Kobra, 4 Mags, PDW and 6 mags, couple water bottles, and other stuff ). searching the military tents @ Stary yelded a M14 w/ M4 Acog dot sight and a DMR Mag, entrench tool, and Alice Backpack.

enroute to the airfield i foudn 2 player bodies in the woods, that had nice stuff, knife, --> A MAP <---, compas, watch, hatchet and other stuff. so in the end i kinda made out even ( i miss my Mp5SD6 as it was Silenced

im debating on just cutting and running farther south, but i really want a Scoped Sniper Rifle instead of a Acog Sniper, and Night Vision or Rangefinder if lucky and best chance to find that is the NW Airfield, but that place is Player Kill City, and last time i was there i died from a sniper not long after exiting a Hangar, hopefully when i log back in it will be dark and easier

I got annoyed with the game and haven't played it for a few days.

I was tooled up with all this great gear and was having a great time scouting all the different towns. I hit the NW airfield a few times. Never really encountered anyone, the odd person in the distance so i kept well away.

Went to log back in on Thursday and was treated to a location reset, fair enough it has happened before and i just find out where i am and continue on. This time it put me on an island (Otmel)! So i knew i was stuck and went round the island several times trying to find a shallow bit of water as it is about 50 foot away from the mainland. It started getting dark so i decided to risk a swim and hope it stays the same depth... no it didn't. About 10 foot in, i could just see all my gear at the bottom of the water.

I know it's alpha but it still quite annoying when you've invested loads of hours in this one character. To lose all your gear to a bug like that. Anyway thinking of going back into it today and try and build my character back up.

Think I'm going to get Arma today just for this. Now that Guild Wars 2 BWE is over I can put some time into it.

Don't need a load of time to play, I log in for an hour or 2, and haven't played I think for couple days.

Can kind of get boring if nobody to group with

Well, I don't know what's going on. I got everything installed correctly but every time I join a server it just boots me back to server list. Does this even on low pop servers. Have my desktop set for DMZ on my router...I'm out of ideas.

Take a look at this install guide one last time:

http://dayzmod.com/f...ad.php?tid=2421

I was having pretty much the same problem. Turned out i forgot to add -mod=@dayz to the launch options.

Also manually go to the Battleeye site and update the Battleeye client

Thanks, think that was the fix.

So, question for you guys. Do you even bother playing at night or do you find a spot to camp and come back during the day? Right now I'm on a comm tower or something so I am safe - but can't see anything other than stars.

Also, using the map that is on the net how do I pinpoint my location? Is there a place in-game to find coordinates?

You need a GPS to show your location on the map.

Iv had just a watch and compas and had my location show up, but I have also had watch compas and gps and not have it shown up

Thanks, think that was the fix.

If you play at night, max your brightness and Gamma, and HDR also helps ( it turns the night into a Black and White video game) you can see same distance at night with that, as you can day.

As far as location, bring up the maps I posted earlier in the thread, alt tab to them when you see a town, or roadsign, landmark and navigate that way.

Ingame other then map, compas, gps and watch, no there is no other way to see your location.

Also when you spawn in, down in bottom right corner it will state a general location where you are

And your not safe no mater where you are, for example I always look on towers and tall objects for snipers or lookouts

...the whole "Free to do whatever you want!" aspect means there's a bunch of griefers who call themselves bandits.

Actually, that's pretty cool to me. Exactly like it would happen in real life, people would kill one another to have a weapon so that they survive longer. I can see what you mean about needing a group though, if you were solo it would become pretty frustrating.

This looks amazing. I've been watching "The Days Ahead" series (first part is the first video on page 1) and it's great. It's a shame I won't be able to play it. :(

Man, had an awesome run last night only fall victim to stupidity. Logged back in and was still on a crane tower in Elektro at night, although it was turning dawn pretty quick. Decided to make a scavenge run on the perimeter, hugging the coastline. Came up on two silos with a factory next to them and when I came around the back corner of the factory, I saw a dead body - a survivor. I took a look around and was clear so I moved to inspect. Found basics so I took the ammo, food, bandages...when from out of nowhere a zombie attacked. I had to shoot him twice, which caused more zombies to come so I scampered up to the factory roof via ladder. I tried waiting it out but the zombies wouldn't leave.

Finally, decided to shoot them via headshot, which was successful. All told took 5 zombies down in the skirmish. Got down the ladder but by this point I was more afraid of a bandit than anything...you can hear gun shots from a good distance and that seems like a ripe way for bandits to find unsuspecting survivors. I make my way cautiously down the coast some more when I come upon 4 silos enclosed in a gate. While roaming a bit I see another dead survivor (loot!) so I maneuver myself under the fence and creep up on the body. Found a map(!) as well as other necessities. Now I'm really getting nervous - 2 dead bodies, no dead zombies. This guy either jumped from the top of a silo or a bandit got him. I finally make my way slowly north on the coast out of Elektro but I'm now running on fumes - my water bottle is desert dry. I spent the next 30-40 minutes looking for a water source and now I'm losing my wits. I can't aim straight and everything is blurring. I go into a forest and get my bearings - there is a town north of me and the northwest side Elektro to the west.

All of a sudden I hear "pop, pop, pop, pop". Gun shots! I type 'elektro shots friend or foe' but get no response. Oh hell. I slowly creep through the forest, keeping close to a train track that runs north to that town. Now my canteen is bleeding red I'm in trouble. No water, I decide to use a ration of food. Now, I don't know what happened at this point...a zombie just attacked me in the forest and all I have to use is a flare! I go to my backpack and see my gun (w/ ammo) and its not letting me equip the weapon! I throw a flare at the zombie, hoping to catch him on fire but it doesn't work. I'm getting beat up pretty good and I try to make a run to the ocean but I keep falling. Bandage, morphine, but its all just to prolong the inevitable. I take my last breath...

What a fun time! I can say, though, that after trying to stay alive for two hours or so, I feel like in that moment I don't want to play anymore. Its that debilitating. Took the kid to daycare this morning and came home and now I'm itching to play again  Also, playing this game at night with a headset = gamergasm!

You accidentally hit F some where all the way, I have done that also. What F does is cycle between Full/Semi for weapons, flares, chemlights, grenades, etc. I found out the hard way.

If the reticule is a circle, you have a throwable selected

I figured it was something I did when I was organizing all of the loot I found :pinch: Thanks for the tip!

I am going to try and play some later today.

I got to stop my character shaking, painkillers are like gold dust.

Hopefully 1.7.1 will go live this weekend. Finally we'll be able to hide from infected chasing us and they'll not be able to attack/see through walls. Also they'll work off of line of sight.

    • Microsoft finally admits its default Windows 11 25H2, 24H2 action broke key legacy component by Sayan Sen Microsoft last week released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. So far the company has acknowledged two known issues that have popped up after the release which include bugged-out Office apps as well as the Recycle Bin; though there could be more at play too. Speaking of bugs and issues, Microsoft seems to have finally acknowledged a problem that probably has been around for close to a year. That's because back in July of 2025 the company made a default change to the latest Windows 11 versions, wherein it switched to JScript9Legacy on Windows 11 24H2 and later releases. Hence following the release of version 25H2 in October 2025, JScript9Legacy also remained default-enabled. As a result there has been a compatibility issue ever since then. For those wondering, by switching to JScript9Legacy Microsoft intended to improve the security of modern Windows PCs by reducing vulnerabilities tied to legacy scripting like cross-site scripting (XSS), among others. XSS exploits can allow cyber-attackers to attach malicious code onto legitimate websites and use them to execute the code when a potential victim loads such a website. Hence the new JScript9Legacy engine enforced stricter execution policies and improved object handling, which should help mitigate such attacks. Microsoft today has published a new support article detailing the problem. Neowin spotted it while browsing. The company says that JScript global definitions and execution context may fail to persist across scripts, potentially breaking older dependent apps and web-based components that relied on this legacy behavior. In the article Microsoft has confirmed that the issue stems from its move away from the older jscript9.dll engine in favor of jscript9legacy.dll. As mentioned above, while the newer engine was designed to address vulnerabilities and strengthen security it also changes how JScript handles execution context. As a result functions and definitions loaded by one script could no longer remain available to subsequent scripts once execution ended. The company notes that some applications worked correctly on earlier Windows versions because the older JScript engine automatically retained global definitions and execution state between scripts. Under the newer model though that behavior is disabled by default causing certain legacy workloads and polyfill-dependent scripts to fail. Microsoft says it addressed the problem via the KB5077241 update though the fix had not been enabled automatically in the following updates. As such admins must explicitly turn on persistent JScript execution context using a Registry setting that the tech giant shared today. The configuration can be applied to individual processes or system-wide through the FEATURE_ENABLE_PERSISTENCE registry key. The steps have been outlined below: Run the following command to create the feature control registry key: reg add "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_ENABLE_PERSISTENCE" Under this key, create a new DWORD (32-bit) value. Configure the value as follows: To enable persistence for specific processes only: Set the value to 1 for each target process name. To enable persistence for all processes: Add * as the key name and set its value to 1. You can find the official support article here on Microsoft's website.
