DayZ for Arma II

Recommended Posts

Yes, it will be using the Minecraft pricing model. I think that is the best way personally.

I've stopped playing it until the standalone is out. The bugs just got really annoying and each patch iteration seemed to fix one problem and break another 10 things. It just seemed it was never getting anywhere. Hopefully now he has a proper dev team and access to the engine, i think we'll see a much better game.

Haven't touched it, either, since the announcement of the stand alone. While it was fun initially, I just got increasingly frustrated with some of the changes and the engine itself.

What you having issues with?

I'm pretty sure its a port forwarding issue though I have it set up the same way I've done for other games on my router. I think my next attempt will be to set it up with a vpn because I suspect it doesn't like that its not being announced to the official servers and hive.

Well the game is finally on Early Access on Steam for ?19.99 or $29.99

They're stating it is very early alpha and buggy. So i'm not expecting much.

If it plays better than the mod, then i'm happy.

The new inventory system is in, so a lot of the annoyance of the mod is gone. No longer will i spend 40 minutes trying to move stuff around.

I don't know if we should start a new Official thread or get a mod to rename this one.

12 pages isn't a lot to read through, but if you guys want an official thread I will close this one and let someone create the new one.

I nearly made an official one last night when I saw on Twitter that it had been released, but decided against it.

I've been watching a few streams via Twitch of people playing the Standalone and it seems they released it because the fans wanted them to, as opposed to, it's actually ready for the alpha release.

People keep dying because the Food/Drink mechanics doesn't work properly.

As to buying it, I want to but I don't think my MacBook Pro will run it (it just about ran Arma 2/DayZ mod).

It is very alpha

There is enough warnings on Steam, buy page and ingame.

I think this is mainly to see how well the servers handle large numbers and then they'll start turning it up for more players/zeds

I think people were expecting a feature rich game but i think the devs have spent the last year building the server architecture and backend stuff.

Also i think the ArmA engine is pants and a pain to work with.

So it is a little bare at the moment.

The potential though for when they do start implementing new features is exciting.

I have seen all the warnings plastered everywhere warning people about it being in an Alpha state haha.

I agree with you about the potential that this game does have and I am excited about it.

I'd consider buying it now, so that you pay ?19.99 instead of ?29.99 or more once it's released, but I wouldn't consider playing it now with the current state that it is in

Zombie detection is unreal, they come after you from a mile off, the food/drink system doesn't seem to be working very well if working at all!

I will keep my eye on it still as I enjoyed playing the Mod!

I don't think DayZ would be in the sale, considering it only just came out. That would seriously take the mick. Especially it is already pretty pricey.

Plus it seems to be selling pretty well.

If they do, i hope they give early adopters some kind of compensation like a voucher via Steam.

True, but when something releases close to a sale they'll sometimes bring back the preorder prices, i.e 10% off.

If I had a PC, I'd buy it. But as I only have a 2011 13" MacBook Pro (which ran Arma II/DayZ Mod at 24-29fps) I don't think it'll run the DayZ Standalone. I've been googling to see if anyone has a Mac/Bootcamp and got DayZ Standalone running well enough to play but I haven't had any luck yet!

I don't think it will, you'd have to scale it back quite a bit i think.

It runs on a modified version of the Take On Helicopters/ArmA III engine.

Plus performance isn't that great at the moment with it either.

Yeah I think I will leave it. Don't really do PC Gaming but I did enjoy playing the DayZ mod.

Did you buy the 'Alpha'?! I know that they have been having authentication problems which might of been your issue.

Yeah, just tried it again. Managed to get on and worked great.

Shame the server was at night. As atmospheric as the night is. You can't do anything unless you have nightvision or cheat and jam the brightness and gamma up.

I did see one survivor. He was in a little town i was heading too. Still blows me away everytime i see someone a good distance away and all you see is their torch lighting up different areas.

The game has some of the best lighting i've seen.

Performance wise. It was running smoother than the mod. Although it was at night.

Awwww Lingwo don't say that :( It makes me want it even more now! Miss the days of meeting up and exploring for hours!

On your little bike

If the game was better priced. Say ?10. I'd say it was worth the risk to see if it runs ok but ?20 is a bit steep for something that might not run properly.

I know, I've been hoping that someone else would of taken the plunge and tried it but can't find anyone posting about having it running on a MacBook Pro or even a Mac via Bootcamp yet!

Look for people playing ArmA III or Take On Helicopters on your MacBook

If people can run them, then you'll be able to run DayZ.

Genius!

Found a YouTube video of a guy running Arma 3 on his 13" MacBook AIR (i5 1.8GHz, 4GB Ram & Intel 4000 HD) at 20-30fps at 720p/Standard Settings.

My MacBook Pro has a 2.5GHz Inter Core i5, 8GB of RAM & Intel 3000 HD, so I think I'll give it a go! I can always tinker with settings to get it running a bit better I am sure.

Yeah there is a lot you can do with with the config files

http://dayzintel.com/dayz-standalone/dayz-standalone-performance-guide

These are the main ones people seem to use to get the biggest performance gains.

So, Just played a couple of Hours standalone Dayz.

Of course as its beta its missing items, Bandages, Flares, Tents, Some Weapons , Animals ,Vehicles,Vehicle parts, Barricades are some i can think of. The Zombies are VERY rare, i saw less than 10 in total, they still sound the same and move the same. The game generally is the same as the Mod, sounds, map seems similar but there are new buildings, some old buildings which had items now don't, some have doors which they didn't before and more buildings are accessible. I played on a 40 man server and ran north, 2 chaps i ran in to at the Radio Tower allowed me to pass, further north at another encounter someone with an m4 tried to shoot me, but was taken down by another chap also with an m4, so generally its been friendly.

Ive had no game crashes, just 80secs no connection errors which can set you back.

    • I bought this game. Played it for an hour, and then got a refund from Steam. Not a fun game at all.

    • Forza Horizon 6 gets another hotfix for one of the game's online modes by Taras Buria Recently, Forza Horizon 6 players discovered an interesting glitch that allowed farming a crazy amount of in-game credits in a few minutes. Playground Games quickly pulled the plug on the exploit by disabling one of the game's online modes, and today, the studio is rolling out another hotfix. In my review, I complained about the game still showering gamers with cars, credits, and wheelspins. As such, earning money in Forza Horizon 6 is not a particularly difficult task. You simply have to play the game, crazy, I know. However, people still found an easier path to becoming a billionaire in Forza Horizon 6. All you had to do was purchase the Hummer EV, install a specific tune, shift in reverse while going at about 15 MPH, hit a wall, and get launched into the stratosphere at the speed of light. While mid-air, launch Eliminator and quickly get eliminated. Boom, the game just awarded you with a few million in-game credits. Initially, Playground Games disabled Eliminator to prevent people from farming credits. Now, following the release of the first balancing update, developers are rolling out a new update that re-enables Eliminator and gives users a free McLaren Sabre as a gesture of goodwill. Here is the changelog: One critical issue remains unpatched, though. There are quite a few reports of the game wiping gamers' saves, and developers are still looking into that. To avoid potential data loss, Playground Games recommends taking one of the steps outlined in a previously published support article.
