opacity problem with Windows Sidebar (Calendar gadget)

Recommended Posts

Running Vista Business 32-bit, and here's what Calendar looks like in Windows Sidebar:

sidebar_calendar_opaque.jpg

As you can see, it's not transparent around the edges, but opaque. Calendar is the only gadget that behaves this way, and it only does it when displaying in the shown mode (the mode where it shows only the current day's date seems to work fine).

I've tried all of the following, with no success:

  • closing and reopening the Windows Sidebar
  • closing and reopening Calendar
  • disabling and reenabling Windows Aero Glass
  • deselecting and reselecting the "Enable transparency" option in Windows Color and Appearance
  • deselecting and reselecting the "Enable transparent glass" option in Performance Options
  • restarting the system

I think at one point, I even tried deleting some system files pertaining to Sidebar, to make Windows recreate them automatically, and that didn't work either.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Easy way to fix this. Just upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate.

And why are you still using Windows Vista when Windows 8 is around the corner.

On that note, why would I upgrade to Win7 when Win8 is just around the corner?

You're circumventing the issue at hand, btw. I like Vista, and I have no real reason to upgrade. And it'd be silly to upgrade your entire OS over such a petty issue. I'd rather fix it and learn something in the process.

As noted above what's the point of doing that and if Vista is working properly then there's no need to upgrade to Windows 7, especially since 8 is round the corner.

Turbonium: I noticed this when I was running Vista, have you installed IE9 recently because AFAIK it's IE9 which causes the calendar to have the white border, I have too not found a solution to it however.

I've had this problem for probably over a year now, and I installed IE9 a long time ago (I don't remember when), so it's entirely possible that the problem is indeed related.

    • In the past few days I have noticed two odd moderation activities. First, when I posted the term 'White Nationist Christian' it was asterisk's out. When I changed it to **** it was allowed! Second, in the Politics is a ###business thread I was allowed to post that the GOP is a party of p e d ophiles but I was censored  when I posted the GOP are a party of p e d ophile protectors. Wtf Neowin. Please explain.
    • BS, I've yet to run into a typical pc user that uses it at all, let alone half the population.
