Israeli researchers develop a marijuana plant without the "high" ef

Recommended Posts

Scientists in Israel have cultivated a cannabis plant that doesn?t get people stoned in a development that may help those smoking marijuana for medical purposes, a newspaper said on Wednesday.

According to the Maariv daily, the new cannabis looks, smells and even tastes the same, but does not induce any of the feelings normally associated with smoking marijuana that are brought on by the substance THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol.

Hah, I'm pretty sure I've read something similar before but I'm not sure if it was something that was theoretical or already developed, such as this.

Pretty damn nice, I hope that every single person on this planet that claims he "needs" it for medical reasons will get THIS version, I reckon that there will be a drastic decrease in demand for medical marijuana.

I dont smoke, in fact, I actually hate smoking. but who the **** cares if people do for the high? its sure as hell better then someone getting drunk, though I enjoy that more.

I'm not an expert at this XD

In the article it mentions CBD so I'm thinking it remains just as helpful medicine wise, simply lacking the high effect.

I don't think it's any better than getting drunk, I'm not going to talk about my personal experiences here, but.. to each his own, just don't claim it's for medical use if there's a perfectly medical marijuana right here but you want to use the one that gets you high.

If you want to get high, refer to your local drug dealer :)

This I am pretty sure, occurs naturally anyway and all they have done is select the plant that produce the least THC, cultivated them until you get a strain that produces almost nothing.

I have to say I always find it fascinating when people say things like this. What the hell does it have to do with anybody if you want to smoke a plant? Who actually gives anyone the right to tell you that you can't or that in order to have it, you have to get "permission"! You don't need permission to smoke cigarettes, so why make the distinction?? Sorry, but I find that utterly ridiculous. There are literally 100's of things that are far worse for humans and yet there is a law against zoom in so many countries, it really does not make sense.

It is the cannabinoids that have the medicinal purposes from my understanding of things.

With that said, I would also imagine the euphoria of the high also does help in certain medical cases as well, gets their mind off things so to speak.

So yeah, I can see this being good for certain people, other people, I see the effect of getting high actually being a good thing.

I'm not against smoking weed, I'm against liars that claim they have to use medical marijuana. Smoke all you want and whatever you want, just don't tell me it's for medicinal purposes :)

... and yeah, I know that marijuana helps people, hence the article, I'm not trying to disprove that, just to be clear.

If they're going to take away the one chemical that gives the cannabis any actual effect they may as well just trick people into smoking tea leaves or grass. And as someone with a family that has 4 habitual cannabis smokers in it I can assure you that if people aren't getting high off the weed they WILL notice it.

There was something about this on the BBC drug thing last year, if you can find it, go and watch it (it was interesting).

They were trying to remove the other thing in cannibus though, the thing that causes mental-health problems.

My sister is a DR in chemistry studying the effects of this plant THC is the what is used so this is bull **** (if i remember correctly )

My sister is also a DR in chemistry and she says your sister is wrong.

Seriously, what kind of an argument is that ? Are we 6 year olds ?

Isn't it the THC that kills the pain for its medicinal purposes????

Edit: And no, the CBD doesn't do crap for the normal medicinal purposes of killing pain. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannabidiol They actually have it out in a spray in Canada so this would be useless for just CBD.

But, that's wrong, please read the posts above you.

I wasn't referring to the effects of the cannibaloids I was referring to the part of the drug that actually gets you high.

The question is, why are you so against it? Its never killed anyone unlike tobacco and alcohol.

    • Google pitches Spanner as one database for all AI agents with these new featues by Karthik Mudaliar Google Cloud is introducing new features within Spanner, its distributed database, as a place where enterprises should keep their data, using which AI agents could make smarter and better decisions. In a detailed blog post, Google highlighted quite a few features coming to Spanner, including relational data, graph relationships, vector search, key-value access, full-text search, and operational analytics together in one database architecture. Google says that today's systems aren't well-made for AI agents. There could be data that is present in one system, search indexes in another, embeddings in a vector database, and relationship data in a graph database. This fragmentation isn't great for AI agents to do their jobs because they don't have access to all of this data in one place. This is where Google is positioning Spanner as a solution. Spanner is already a globally distributed relational database with strong consistency, and Google wants its customers to see it as a broader data layer for AI applications. The company introduced something called Spanner Graph, along with integrated vector search, full-text search, a Cassandra-compatible key-value endpoint, and a columnar engine for analytical queries on operational data. Google also added that its ScaNN-powered vector search can support indexes with more than 10 billion vectors, while the columnar engine can make some analytical scans up to 200 times faster. All of this isn't just exclusive to the Google Cloud Platform, and there's support for multi-cloud as well. This comes via Spanner Omni, which Google says is a downloadable, containerized version of Spanner that can run on Kubernetes and in environments outside Google Cloud, including Microsoft Azure and AWS, and even on-premises infrastructure as well as edge deployments. Google says that customers who are interested in the full-featured edition should contact the company, and there's no word on commercial availability or separate pricing. Those interested can read the full blog by Google Cloud, which details these features individually.

    • They have lots of info on me, I have a facebook account and have done so for years, it was the thing to have then. My phone number is not on it. I don't have the Facebook app on my phone these days, just the messenger part, and only for a couple of people to contact me, most will text me via SMS or phone. I agree, Meta, like others, even without an account will know something about me. Just have to try and keep some things private Also, never saw the need for Whatsapp, people used to ask for me to join it, but as I said to them, I have SMS and a phone, use that, or email
