Not like it's hard to get, everyone can download the Release Preview, install it in Virtualbox and get the fonts. So don't you dare remove these links mods!

If you don't want to/cant install it, can always use ImageX off of the Windows Automated Install Kit to mount the WIM image (similar to mounting an ISO into the file system) and extract them that way too. Clicking the link above is a lot quicker though.

So I downloaded that and if I open segoeui.ttf from your zip archive, it says version 5.01... anyone else seeing this?

*EDIT* Though the letter "I" is sans serif and if I open file properties, it says 5.24... very weird... heh

That might be because the font viewer takes your local Segoe UI instead of the one from the file. Install all fonts in the folder and reboot, you'll notice it changed. Have a look at the numbers in the About System in Control Panel, you'll see.

It's nice to see Segoe finally have proper ligatures, but the kerning still is suboptimal, especially in cases like AV or VA.

That would make sense ;P

Damn stupid font viewer :)

The version in the Consumer Preview is 5.16.

It's just the evolution in Microsoft's Metro design. Phase one was Windows Vista (and 7), where we only had the Media Center in an early Metro using Segoe UI / Segoe Media Center. Phase two was Zune, which used Zegoe UI. Phase three was Windows Phone, with Segoe WP, and now we have Windows 8 with Segoe UI v2, which will probably be used on Windows Phone 8 as well.

But the original Segoe UI was derived from Segoe, a font that Microsoft bought from another company. The new Segoe UI resembles the original Segoe a lot more, it looks like some of the changes were undone.

This image shows Segoe UI (v1) above, the original Segoe below. The Q and I for example have been reverted to the original Segoe in Segoe UI v2.

After using it for a few hours now I'm not sure I like it. For The numbers look really out of place. When you've got really 'straight' letter glyphs the roundish numbers really don't make sense. At least not for smaller fonts, it might look better when it's big. But I've been staring at my taskbar clock all day and it looks weird.

I'll just post this here again, if anyone wants to install all the fonts:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/3dmqyz8jtfxoi8p/Segoe%20Windows%208.zip

Extract all of them, select all, right-click -> install, replace all and reboot!

The newer fonts do look weird, at first. I have gotten used to it though, been using the new fonts a couple months now, since the CP. In fact, seeing the original versions onscreen (especially the taskbar lol) is jarring to me now. Speaking subjectively, I've gotten very used to the 1 and its serif-less look, and rather prefer the rounded 2.

    • Can you read? I've said I'm willing to pay more for a notchless (no notch) 3:2 screen.
    • Not even an OLED display on the laptops. Also it seems that the laptop design isn't the same as the Surface Ultra model. Looks like bargain bin at high prices.
    • make your own notch - it's not that hard
    • VirtualBox 7.2.10 by Razvan Serea VirtualBox is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. Targeted at server, desktop and embedded use, it is now the only professional-quality virtualization solution that is also Open Source Software. Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Solaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7, 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4, 2.6, 3.x, 4.x, 5.x and 6.x), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, OpenBSD, NetBSD and FreeBSD. Some of the features of VirtualBox are: Modularity. VirtualBox has an extremely modular design with well-defined internal programming interfaces and a client/server design. This makes it easy to control it from several interfaces at once: for example, you can start a virtual machine in a typical virtual machine GUI and then control that machine from the command line, or possibly remotely. VirtualBox also comes with a full Software Development Kit: even though it is Open Source Software, you don't have to hack the source to write a new interface for VirtualBox. Virtual machine descriptions in XML. The configuration settings of virtual machines are stored entirely in XML and are independent of the local machines. Virtual machine definitions can therefore easily be ported to other computers. • OK, now ask yourself how are they going to enforce that law? By requiring every single adult to prove their age and provide their legal identity documents to an UNREGULATED 3rd party company that already has a long track record of multiple data breaches. Not to mention, parliament have voted AGAINST this ban, twice, and Starmer is going ahead anyway. So, where's the democracy here, because that looks like dictatorship to me. The solution here is parental responsibility, not government control. Run some public service announcements on TV and UK social media teaching parents how to setup parental controls. That's already been proven to actually work. But the, this is not and has NEVER been about keeping kids safe. It's about control and monitoring. Watching what you're doing online and controlling what you can see and what you can say.
