I heard, that Everest was one of the most dangerous places in the world and that some people even died there. But I was shocked, that there are over 200 dead bodies on the mount as of now. No, seriously, they even do not take the dead bodies off the mountain and they stay there in snow, and that happens in our modern world. I would never think that such thing can take place now, seriously, I am shocked. http://www.everestian.com/mt-everest-en.html

I'm not shocked.  You know the risks when you decide to climb that death trap.

and HOLY Thread Resurrection Batman! :D

If it's dangerous just to climb, recovering dead bodies is going to be next to impossible. Yep, it sucks for the families, but if you choose to take that kind of risk knowing what the consequences could be, it's on your head if something goes wrong.

Pretty much. It's official Sherpa policy that if getting you medical attention or rescuing you would endanger an entire expedition (which it almost certain will) then you will be left to die. It's in the contract.

At least hypothermia isn't a violent, excruciating death.

What are you rambling about?  Last time I checked, Everest was not in America.

Yeah, makes about as much sense as this thread being open after all this time, huh? None. Not that you care (read under your name).

Why lock it?  It's an interesting discussion.  Oh wait, I thought you left anyway? And now you're wanting to dictate what should and shouldn't be discussed?

As for the Sherpa policy of "If you endanger us" - I think it's very valid!

Old threads are not locked in most cases.  Figured you would have known that since you have been registered since 2002.  And the quote under my name is something I thought was funny from a movie.  But, whatever.

Anywho, I saw Everest, the movie, in the theater.   I wont be doing any mountain climbing anytime soon.  People who do this kind of thing are just looking for the thrill/challenge of it.  Does not make sense to me...to each their own.

Let's be men, and not drag this into public (you know what i mean). Interesting? Really? How many people has this happened to? Over how many hundreds and hundreds of years? I'm not dictating anything, I was just throwing an emphasis on what someone else had thought..."HOLY THREAD RESURRECTION, BATMAN!!!!" <speaks for itself>  This should've been locked long ago, as per date.  PM me, +Nik L. There's something you don't know, that I haven't stated publically, that I'm not happy about.

Your only reasoning for the thread being locked is that it's old. And that rationale doesn't add up, because this is something that's still happening. It's interesting. Some people still talk about things that happened centuries ago. Why stop interesting discussions because they're old? If adults want to have a chat about something that interests them and they're not doing anything harmful, why stop it?

Pretty sure you're the one dragging into public. What a weird post.

I have no idea what you mean, but suggesting things not be made public after your public tantrum is a bit ironic.

So you define "interesting" as "how many people have died"... Curious.  I personally find a thread about the dangers of climbing the worlds tallest mountain very interesting, and the stories that come from that.  However old the thread - it's not gone out of date, it's still relevant to peoples interests.

As for what you are or are not happy about - I genuinely have no interest in that.

i don't understand the locking of threads.  If locked, why not just delete it? Why would mods want to prevent people from commenting? A reason is probably out there, but I don't know what it would be.

Only 5 Canadians have died on Everest.

It would be wrong to litter another country, Canadians are too polite ;)

I had a friend die in New Zealand last week.  She loved the mountains and loved hiking.   Then one day she turned to talk to her hiking partner, lost her footing, and fell to her death.  Unfortunately it comes with the territory.  Doing what you love sometimes involves risks.  I risk my life every time I get on my motorcycle, hell my job (which I love) is inherently risky.  If you're not going to do things that incur risk, don't ever leave your house...but that's dangerous because what if it burns down?

Exactly.  I adore skydiving, and am itching to do it again - but I understand that I am jumping out of a plane, which is inherently a risky thing to do.  Sure we can mitigate those risks, but life without risk is bland.

Personally I don't find the deaths themselves fascinating, but reading up on the mistakes made, and the situations that led to them does interest me. Good climbing requires strategy and strategy does interest me.

I climbed mount Snowdon with a group when I was 11. Obviously not even in the same league as Everest, but it was fun and really enjoyable. I'm unfortunately, due to health issues no longer able to do that kind of thing myself but I admire people that battle the elements to climb. It would, no doubt be a breathtaking experience.

It might even be an honor to be left up there (or an embarrassment). How many people get to climb Everest or experience such thrills? Unfortunately such activities have a great chance of death.

I'm glad to see Warwagon posting again!

    • Payday TWO!! Is 13 years old man I feel old - I remember trying it out and if I did not know I would say 5-6 years ago or something
    • Payday 2 engine upgrade adds 64-bit and DX11 support, drastically shrinks install size by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Payday 2, the most popular entry in the heisting game franchise, is getting a surprising update after all these years. This is slated to be a complete engine upgrade that will enhance almost every aspect of the 13-year-old title, targeting performance, loading times, file size, rendering backend, and more. Developer Sidetrack Games is planning a beta to test out the new version ahead of the full public launch. The development team today revealed that the long-awaited upgrade to the 64-bit architecture is happening with this Diesel 3.0 engine update. By letting the game use more ram than 4GB, it is said to improve stability and compatibility on most hardware. It should also help modders in the long term with implementing larger changes too. "While many of the changes are made on the backend and not everything will be visible to you guys because it is a massive rewrite of the entire codebase, there will be a lot of things that you can look forward to," Sidetrack explained. Payday 2 will also hop over from DirectX 9 to 11. Instead of visual improvements, this is slated to reduce the amount of VRAM used by the title, letting more lower-end hardware access the title and run it better. Since these changes would require a complete redownload of the game anyway, Sidetrack says it has revamped "the game's packaging and bundling system." This should reduce the installation size from 86GB to 32GB. "So, now it's time to finally move the game to your SSDs," added the studio. The Payday 2 Diesel Engine 3.0 update is entering open beta on June 30 for Steam users. No console release plans were announced today. Sidetrack Games says it has been working on this complete rewrite of the codebase for the last nine months. While these changes should break most mods, the studio encouraged modders to use the beta period to repair their creations with support from the development team.
