Hotmail rebranding to Newmail

Recommended Posts

What I am noticing in the more corporate world is that @hotmail, @live and @msn-addresses are just not done. If you want a free personal email address, you use Gmail or something from Apple (@me.com or whatever it is). They're pretty much the only email domains that are regarded as proper accounts. That might also have to do with how people tend to pick the most idiotic usernames for Hotmail while people usually just use their name for Gmail.

Eh.. no. I see far more sensible hotmail adresses than I see sensible gmail adresses, but then there's about 10 times as many hotmail users so... of course there's gonna be more people with "cool" names. and none of these services are considered "proper". However when you apply for jobs and such they don't care if you use hotmai, live or gmail, these people don't even look at your email adress anyway. Th eonly people who think in the lines of "proper" mail is IT Geeks.

Pretty sure it won't be newmail, that domain is for sale and not owned by Microsoft.

I thought hotmail rebranding was called live mail or something?

Windows Live (the brand) is being retired, IIRC, and it was "Windows Live Hotmail," at least after a short while of "Windows Live Mail."

I agree they shouldn't change "Hotmail," it's a name that people know. But I agree with the others that this "Newmail" is probably little more than just an internal code name. Either way, I like the Metro interface and I think the new look will be nice, once it's finally rolled out.

..and it will be changed back to Hotmail again.

It hasn't changed in the first place, and it won't change, this is just a development codename for the new interface.

You don't know much about the origins of the name, do you? It was originally spelled as HoTMaiL (HTML), since it was among the first web-based e-mail services.

That takes me back. I'm showing my age here, but I remember when Hotmail looked like this. http://news.cnet.com...10003321-1.html in Netscape Navigator Gold 3

Microsoft Webmail Services 2012.

I'm going to preorder my copy of Microsoft Webmail Pro Services for Ultimate Students 2012

I love how so many jumped to conclusion about Newmail being its new name (not directed at anyone in particular on this thread). Surely those people can realize its far easier to communicate with other parts of your team (in this case the Hotmail team) by addressing the metrofied hotmail as something easy to say like Newmail..

One simple thought... why?!. As far as I am concerned "Newmail" is a terrible name.
