How do I get to play WMA files with Winamp?

//EDIT http://windowsmedia.com/wmrm/wmrm.asp I get that page when I try to play one.

I think that's becaue the WMA file you tried to play has DRM.

Is there a work-around for that?

You would have to crack the DRM-System...Not easy....

24 bit playback doesn't exsist!

All content is in 16 bit

ALL Of creative's products Don't support 24 bit PLAYBACK.

Only encoding.

Too bad you all believe what foobar tells you.

its a damn shame, people don't read anything for themselves nowadays.

Hi.

Your a moron.

Don't spread ignorant facts.

Have a nice day.

btw: on topic of winamp5, glad to see them takin a step away from winamp3, but keeping their awesome skinning code. Thumbs up for winamp5, it supports (should) all winamp 2.x plugins, so mad plugins / directsound SSRC etc should all work in it for those who want better quality output.

You can't auto hide anymore??!?? I used to love using the NonStep skin for WinAmp3 but it seems like the autohide option is gone making the skin unpratical. Or am I missing something?

I really liked NonStep too, and it worked perfect on the WA5 alpha.

Now when I try to use it, it maxes out my resources and I have to do an end task on Winamp to recover.

No probs with any other WA3 skins though. Weird.

everything is good except that there's no crossfader... [snip]

or maybe there is i just can't find it...

There is a crossfader. Just head over to options->preferences->output->directsound output-bla-bla-bla->configure->fading-> and configure it to suit your needs. :)

That works in the 2.9x versions [and possibly earlier ones as well.]

thanks for turning on the light... but it's still kindda dim 'coz i can't find directsound output-bla-bla-bla... however, i found directsound output v2.2.6 (out_ds.dll)... are they the same?

j/k

thank's for the help!

I guess creative themselves are morons for having there PR man tell us that on there newsgroups.

OH well.

think what you want.

Any explanation then why on Audigy2 cards 24bit/32bit content had a lower SNR in tests than 16bit content? And that's also why the KS driver reports 32bit samples as preferred input on my Audigy2?

...had something else written here til i read your dvd audio comment....who is expecting 24 bit playback on a 16 bit file? You are saying 24 bit playback doesn't exist. You need to choose your words better and stop being a dick about everything.

Hrm, maybe I'm the biggest idiot in the world, but I could have swore I never saw it in any of the 2.x versions. I realize that it will output Artists - Title from the ID3 tags automatically, or it will just fetch the filename if no ID3 information is present, but I've never seen an option to customize which ID3 information is outputted. Again, I could be wrong.

    • Absolutely NOBODY has suggested such a conclusion. I am affirming the sober reality check that AV2's overall market adoption will take longer than AV1's adoption rate -- which, by the way, is the whole point of the article! While PCI-SIG is productive (on paper), other WGs have created all sorts of confusing progress plans that consumers have tuned-out of their improvements... HTML/W3C, USB, HDMI, BT, WIFI (ieee802.11) as a few other groups where spec naming conventions, split progress paths, overlapping ambitions... I'm not critiquing the AV specs group; I'm simply affirming that adoption for AV2 faces headwinds beyond the macroeconomics of it all.
