LEXX911
Seriously they need to get rid of the shortcup arrow. That thing is just hideous. They need to get rid of it and replace it with something else. Such as? They need something there to represent it's a shortcut, not an actual location. LEXX911
Such as? They need something there to represent it's a shortcut, not an actual location. Pretty simple. Replace it with something more elegant. Such as a small triangle at the left bottom like the one I created for an example. Sszecret Veteran Posted July 3, 2012 Veteran Share Posted July 3, 2012 Windows 8 without desktop gadgets? Since we have live tiles, why is there a need for gadgets? Personally, the only one I ever used was "Weather", but that has now been replaced by the live tile from the weather app. I think I read somewhere that there are more colors coming for the RTM version of 8. I do hope the combinations between the accent color and the background color aren't as dubious as some of the ones included in the RP. Also, I can't wait to use it with the "new theme". I have seen it in screenshots and during the Surface presentation, but still, nothing beats actually having it and playing with it. Live tiles = Metro apps = sandboxed apps = restricted apps.Gadgets can shows a lot more usefull infos, such as CPU/GPU usage. They can also do more action like restarting the PC etc. Live tiles aren't the equivalent of Gadget, it's a different concept imo. Quillz
Pretty simple. Replace it with something more elegant. Such as a small triangle at the left bottom like the one I created for an example. Well, that could work. It's not bad looking. But I think the arrow is familiar and people understand what it means. It seems changing it would be somewhat unnecessary at this point. asfaltas 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1086617-windows-8-rtm-build-8500/page/5/#findComment-594977299 Share on other sites

rfirth
Windows 8 without desktop gadgets? You're missing the most important part... look, that screenshot includes a start button... and it's not the same one from the Developer Preview, or one we've seen before. The one in the DP was a flag. This one is the new Windows logo. Since I wont be downgrading to "8" then I don't have any worries but they are very useful in 7, especially the cpu and network gadgets. I had a feeling that wasn't right. I don't really want the button to come back, although I wouldn't mind if it did. It would stop some of the complaining. I did know that the 'regedit'-like icon was a Chinese customization app. I didn't know it added a start button. .Neo
Such as? They need something there to represent it's a shortcut, not an actual location. The OS X alias arrow is more refined (in my opinion) and less prominent i.e. no huge box around it. I always thought the Windows shortcut overlays look terrible. The one introduced by Windows Vista is even worse. dr_crabman
Windows 8 without desktop gadgets? Liked it in concept but nobody ever did anything noteworthy with it imo, MS themselves basically abandoned the gadgets right after Vista. Disappointing overall but I won't miss them.
