Thinking of switching to AT&T Uverse for Internet

Recommended Posts

I thinking of switching to AT&T Uverse as it will be cheaper then what I am currently paying Comcast. Has anyone had any experience with uVerse? I am being offered the 12 mb/s connection which is equal to what I have with Comcast. I would be paying $85 +taxes /month for a year, which beats Comcast which is charging me $75 /month for internet and TV.

How is $85 a month cheaper than $75 a month?

I have directv for my TV, and only pay comcast for internet. So I can not really compare my prices to yours. But I get 20 down / 2 up with 25/4 burst and I only pay $48.95

I don't even show them offering a 12Mb plan -- performance is 20/4 and blast is 30/6 -- starter is like 6/1 and economy is 3/768k.. Then they have plans with 50 and 105, etc.

Maybe its different in FL? But again not understanding how 85 is cheaper than 75 ;)

I have Comcast and I love it! They got me a special deal for the 20 meg plan and it is fast as far as I can see. I do not like ATT so I stay far away!

Comcast is $75 /month phone is $35 /month so we are at $110 /month where we would be paying $85 /month for AT&T

When was the last time you ran a promo from comcast?? Seems like a lot more than what most people I know pay (northeast florida). Are you on the economy voice package? or the standard? In regards to uverse, I've heard mix results on service.. . if you need more info, i'll ask for you.

Best bet, if you already have the 3x bundle look into the anyroom service that should put you on a years promo, just make sure you roll back when it's done.

I have the 12 mb/s connection through Uverse and I couldn't be happier.

Comcast isn't in my area so my only other alternative is Cox Communications. (N)

I've had Uverse for 3 years and I get a consistent 12 mb/s and never had an outage whether there are storms or not. When I had Cox, there were outages all the time.

^My wife does not want VOIP, despite my reassuring her that its fine. We currently have local/long distance with AT&T ~$35 /month and Internet/TV with Comcast which is currently running $75 /month and the speed has been lagging lately, and since we live in an apartment the node is shared with everyone else who has service, so it's never consistent speed.

I guess it's not bad, my friend had U-Verse. I've had it too and even used to sell it but i'd never switch from my cable connection to that. For you speeds are lower so you don't really care but since they can't offer more than 24/3Mbps it's a no-go for me. I have 50/8Mbps now which U-Verse can't touch, even when they dream :)

As for the service itself though, it worked just fine. Seems my friend however had issues with billing but that could just be a special case. I used it at her house and it's fine, i just hate their required routers too but I love the fact that the boxes can be all networked instead of coaxial cable :) I ran everything over LAN in her house and they offer WIFI options now.

Trust me as a former AT&T employee, it will be the biggest headache of your life. Stick what what you have, it's not worth the hassle I promise. Especially in Florida, 98% of the calls I got were from there and people just hated it. Installed incorrectly, promised service but never got it, inconsistent connection and speeds and numerous billing problems.

Care to explain what you mean?

Never had a problem with Uverse here. Speed always comes through as advertised and is a better deal than Comcast in my area. The installer was also very good considering what he had to do to run my cable. I'm surprised I wasn't charged extra. TV picture looks great, probably not quite as good as DirecTV but definitely better than I got through cable.

If I wanted 50mbps+ internet, I'd probably get Comcast, but their installers here are so terrible that I wouldn't want to risk having holes punched all over my walls.

And as a current AT&T employee, I second this. Crappy ping, inconsistant internet speeds, awful customer support, etc...

IDK Man... It shouldn't just start lagging. Those nodes are designed from the get-go to handle the load of that complex(just as the ones that feed any other complex or neighborhood). I would suspect that you have some type of noise issue or line problem going on, espeically with all the freaking rain we have been having.... Report it(intermittent connectivity issues), and have them come out. If it doesn't fix the problem, report it again until it does. Once it becomes escallated they will do something about it..... either based on reimbursments or by fixing the issue entierly. Either way, nothing will happen until you do that..

Also, while speeds are strained during peak times, it should still stay a pretty consistent expierience(not gradually getting worse). Remember that just because your apartment is good-to-go, the kid on the first level may have thought it was a good idea to electrical-tape together some cable instead of buying a splitter and is screwing the whole complex up...

I only bring that up because when I lived in maryland this guy did something similiar in my building.. so I called and complaiend for about a month until they figured it out! Ever since they had done that my service was perfect (also got a credit on my bill yup yup)....

Well Comcast decided to lower the bill back to the level it was at before! Now the issue I have is according to Comcast, I'm supposed to be on a 20 megabit connection, however, after running a series of Speedtests, the highest speed I obtained was ~14, with an over all average of approx 11. I plan on checking this again in the morning and calling them if the issue persists!

You sure its not just say a limit because of your router -- what router do you have.. Some older models just can not pump out move that low teens.

This could be true. I know my very old linksys router couldn't pump it. Got an N router with n adapters and all was well again.

I am happy with my u-verse install. I got the 24/3 Max Turbo plan for a promotional price of $45/month. I speedtest at those speeds, download at about 3MB/s.

The only downside is the router / gateway is provided by them. No matter what you do, since there is no true bridge mode, you will be limited to that. It has a limit of 1024 NAT sessions.

I have U-verse for Internet and TV. The TV service is great. I have a wireless box in the living room. Internet is great as well. I have 24mbps down and it's always consistent. Never had an outage.

HOWEVER, depending on where you are located you may get terrible TV service. I don't know the details of the tech they use differently from location to location, but I can tell you positively they will install the service even if it will be terrible. Like I said, I have U-verse and it's installed optimally. Some family a couple miles down also have U-verse and they installed it completely differently. I have IP-TV in my house but they require Coaxial because of the type of cabling they had to run to the house - it can't support the bandwidth.

Also, ping times are lower and I have weird disconnects on some online games at times.

Honestly, it's the TV service being great and bundling with wireless phones that keeps me with them. I'd probably get Comcast otherwise.

Ah yes, and there is this. The router they provide sucks and you need to use it :/ I have a group of static IPs though which allows me to alleviate their router as much as possible and direct all traffic to mine.

Netgear WNDR 3300, so I am sure it's not the router

    • Ocenaudio 3.19.5 by Razvan Serea Ocenaudio is a full featured, fast and easy to use audio and music editor. It is the ideal software for people who need to edit and analyze audio files without complications. Ocenaudio also has powerful features that will please more advanced users. To assist ocenaudio development, a powerful toolset of audio editing, analysis and manipulation called Ocen Framework was created. ocenaudio is also based on Qt framework, a well known library for cross-platform development. Cross-platform support ocenaudio is available for all major operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Native applications are generated for each platform from a common source, in order to achieve excelent performance and seamless integration with the operating system. All versions of ocenaudio have a uniform set of features and the same graphical interface, so the skills you learn in one platform can be used in the others. VST plugins support Ocenaudio supports VST (Virtual Studio Technology) plugins, giving its users access to numerous effects. Like the native effects, VST effects can use real-time preview to aide configuration. Real-time preview of effects Applying effects such as EQ, gain and filtering is an important part of audio editing. However, it is very tricky to get the desired result by adjusting the controls configuration alone: you must listen the processed audio. To ease the configuration of audio effects, ocenaudio has a real time preview feature: you hear the processed signal while adjusting the controls. The effect configuration window also includes a miniature view of the selected audio signal. You can navigate on this miniature view in the same way as you do on the main interface, selecting parts that interest you and listening to the effect result in real time. Multiselection for delicate editions To speed up complex audio files editing, ocenaudio includes multi-selection. With this amazing tool, you can simultaneously select different portions of an audio file and listen, edit or even apply an effect to them. For example, if you want to normalize only the excerpts of an interview where the interviewee is talking, just select them and apply the effect. Eficient edition of large files With ocenaudio, there is no limit to the length or the quantity of the audio files you can edit. Using an advanced memory management system, the application keeps your files open without wasting any of your computer's memory. Even in files several hours long, common editing operations such as copy, cut or paste happen almost instantly. Fully featured spectrogram Besides offering an incredible waveform view of your audio files, ocenaudio has a powerful and complete spectrogram view. In this view, you can analyze the spectral content of your audio signal with maximum clarity. Advanced users will be surprised to find that the spectrogram settings are applied in real time. The display is updated immediately when altering features such as the number of frequency bands, window type and size and dynamic range of the display. • I did think about a Echo show once and it would be useful to see what my cameras see. But my brother got one and I changed my mind. Adverts and not really worth the price just to see my cameras. I have a load of dots and a Echo Gen 4, they will do.
    • I asking where you are from or live, because if you don't live in the U.K, why are you so bothered? That is another reason I voted out, E.U and people poking their noses in where they should not be. Sadly we still have it, Trump, and his cronies. Putin as well and no doubt others. It makes no difference what we believe, if we made the right choice or not, we are out. As I said to someone when the news first broke we have voted out, we just need to make the best of it. I have no problems with closer ties to the E.U, we still need to trade. Just don't want to be in their club.
    • So you think I voted out because i am anti-immigrant. I am fed up with those that come over and think that we owe them something. The ones that are at the moment coming over from France where they are already in a safe country because they think and no doubt will get everything chucked at them. While people who were born and bred here get very little. I have nothing against as i have said before those that come here and work. In fact I know full well that our NHS would struggle without them. I do have a problem with those that come over here and try to push their religion and their way of life onto us. My reasons for voting out was because of what the E.U is and is also becoming. I did not agree with Freedom of movement, not because I don't want people over here, but because people need to be checked before being allowed to cross borders and that goes both ways. But my main thing was because the E.U is becoming if not already a united states of Europe. The only reason countries like Poland and Romania joined was because they had no money. When my partner left Poland, she had nothing, Poland had nothing, that is why she left. Wanted to learn something and earn a living. The E.U would have us back according to Michel Barnier. https://www.euronews.com/my-eu...ator-barnier-tells-euronews Why are you so scared to say what country you are in?
    • I wonder what that line really meant...
