Thinking of switching to AT&T Uverse for Internet

Recommended Posts

And your not wireless when your testing? And you don't have anything in front of that router - I see double nats all the time.. Great if wndr3300 can do 200Mbps wan to lan, but that is pointless if there is something in front of it that only does 15Mbps

internet---??---wndr3300

And just because I see it all the time, you do understand that if your wireless that could be the bottleneck as well. But I'm on N and it said 450Mbps on the box ;) is not the correct answer.

Netgear WNDR 3300, so I am sure it's not the router

Is the Comcast thing 20Mbps normal or 20Mbps INCLUDING Powerboost.

Post your modem signals (dunno, did you already post which modem you have?) as well as any errors in the logs so we can see if you need a truck roll. :)

Oh and also, while you are at it, check connections, cables and all that are tight.

Not wireless! I spoke with Comcast tech support and did a series of tests including plugging the modem directly into the system, and then with there speedtest (speedtest.comcast.net) the highest I got was 8 Mbs so they are sending a tech out tomorrow to test things here! The speed that I should be getting is 22/Down 5/Up and seeing as the down speed ggot nowhere close to that, i thing there is a problem...

You asked, I delivered! :) Also what I am able to gather, it is supposed to be 22/Mbs period, not including power boost.

The modem is a telephone modem as well, even though we are not using digital voice from them, when the installer came out he could not get the regular modem to work, so he put this one into the mix, and it worked, even though the issue was on comcasts side (trapped in activation)

Your signals look good there so. Seems you have the ARISS T722G modem?

ARRIS Touchstone TM722G

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ARRIS-Touchstone-TM722G-Telephony-Cable-Modem-DOCSIS-3-0-4x4-Channels-/

Comcast seems to be doing 8x4 or close to it so maybe you can benefit from a better modem? The reason being they have a channel 7 listed there on 663mhz. Maybe 4 channels is not enough to help ease congestion so the pumped it to 8 but you only have 4 so you are still stuck with the congestion issue.

That is the modem you have though? i I was making an assumption based on the screenshot.

Ask them the person that shows up if they have a newer version or maybe a Cisco one since you aren't using voice from them anyways. Since you are leasing you could go get a Moto 6141 from Amazon or a Zoom "J" version and save yourself the fee :). Both of those choices are 8x4 modems. I would get the upgrade if they have it first though to see if that fixes the problem before buying a modem :).

Yeah, Comcast usually carries the Cisco 3008 version and the newer Arris but i'm not sure they are giving those out now.

http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net/

Check there and then write down a few then ask the tech if they have one of those (look up which ones are 8x4 modems and choose those). Your 722 is on the list too so check them out on google. The Arris 862 ones with the red work, just some people might experience the issue if you read the notes on it.

What are they charging you for the lease? It quite often a better cost choice to buy your own modem. Here the cost is $7 a month for lease. You can buy your own for like -- I show the SB6121 for $86, so in 1 year you pay for it. I would hope the modem would last longer than 1 year ;) So after the payback its just money in your pocket.

But that is only a 4x4 so you might want to look for a different one.

That way you can get the modem you want, and depending what you get around 1 year or so its just $7 a month in your pocket. I would say if they updated their modems often, etc. That it might be smarter to be on lease. You could even put that saving towards faster speed if you wanted after the payback period and upgrade only cost you like $3 or something then.. Im thinking about bumping to blast level - just haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I was still on docsis 2 modem for years - I just finally got my own because it was clear they were not going to just update me to 3. And that was before they jacked the price to $7. I got my SB6120 on special for like $69 was a no brainer for me. They were not going to update that until it freaking died thats for sure - its not like they ship out the new modems every couple of years.

I don't see any major changes coming other than number of channels that you can bond with. I am currently bonding 4 down and 3 up, and I never have any speed issues.

It's $7 a month here also. I am tempted to purchase a modem and save the $7 /month

You could do that at any time really, so if you want to hold off until you can find a good deal, you can. I'm cheap, but after going through so many modems with (ugh) AT&T, I decided to just lease it and enjoy not having to worry about it should lightning/power surge knock it out or something (which has happened to me before).

Glad you didn't go with AT&T U-Verse. They charge out the wazoo compared to what they "say" they'll give you. My dad learned that the hard way unfortunately.

At home, AT&T was charging us $33/mo for a 1.5Mbit DSL line, having incrementally increased the bill throughout. Not sure what the hell their problem was, but we're with Comcast paying $20+7/mo for a 20Mbit line that is actually giving showing a 24.5Mbit connection according to all the speed tests I've done.

Hope they get your issue sorted out! :)

DSL may be slow but it's not as much trouble as Uverse....I switched and every time a movie is streamed I get **** service on my other puter. Called and had a service guy come out and he said I would have to have a line rap around my house to the modem for direct feed because I have old wires for the fiber optics u verse uses. Called back to ATT and was told if I have metal (pipes for electic, copper for water) in my house, which I do, it interfers with the service. So, now I want to go back to DSL for service that is decent.

"was told if I have metal (pipes for electic, copper for water) in my house, which I do, it interfers with the service."

This is quite an old thread.. But come on, nobody told you that - wouldn't pretty much every not in some 3rd world location have conduit and copper water pipes?? Guess if your living in a mud and grass hut in the middle of the jungle somewhere your ok ;)

    • Ocenaudio 3.19.5 by Razvan Serea Ocenaudio is a full featured, fast and easy to use audio and music editor. It is the ideal software for people who need to edit and analyze audio files without complications. Ocenaudio also has powerful features that will please more advanced users. To assist ocenaudio development, a powerful toolset of audio editing, analysis and manipulation called Ocen Framework was created. ocenaudio is also based on Qt framework, a well known library for cross-platform development. Cross-platform support ocenaudio is available for all major operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Native applications are generated for each platform from a common source, in order to achieve excelent performance and seamless integration with the operating system. All versions of ocenaudio have a uniform set of features and the same graphical interface, so the skills you learn in one platform can be used in the others. VST plugins support Ocenaudio supports VST (Virtual Studio Technology) plugins, giving its users access to numerous effects. Like the native effects, VST effects can use real-time preview to aide configuration. Real-time preview of effects Applying effects such as EQ, gain and filtering is an important part of audio editing. However, it is very tricky to get the desired result by adjusting the controls configuration alone: you must listen the processed audio. To ease the configuration of audio effects, ocenaudio has a real time preview feature: you hear the processed signal while adjusting the controls. The effect configuration window also includes a miniature view of the selected audio signal. You can navigate on this miniature view in the same way as you do on the main interface, selecting parts that interest you and listening to the effect result in real time. Multiselection for delicate editions To speed up complex audio files editing, ocenaudio includes multi-selection. With this amazing tool, you can simultaneously select different portions of an audio file and listen, edit or even apply an effect to them. For example, if you want to normalize only the excerpts of an interview where the interviewee is talking, just select them and apply the effect. Eficient edition of large files With ocenaudio, there is no limit to the length or the quantity of the audio files you can edit. Using an advanced memory management system, the application keeps your files open without wasting any of your computer's memory. Even in files several hours long, common editing operations such as copy, cut or paste happen almost instantly. Fully featured spectrogram Besides offering an incredible waveform view of your audio files, ocenaudio has a powerful and complete spectrogram view. In this view, you can analyze the spectral content of your audio signal with maximum clarity. Advanced users will be surprised to find that the spectrogram settings are applied in real time. The display is updated immediately when altering features such as the number of frequency bands, window type and size and dynamic range of the display. Ocenaudio 3.19.5 changelog: Fixes crashes related to audio devices on Windows (DirectSound and ASIO) Fixes several crashes and memory corruption issues Fixes opening several headerless files at once, which previously dropped all but one Improves batch export by suggesting and remembering the destination folder Fixes accented and non-Latin characters in VST plug-in and compressed-archive file names Adds zstd compression support and updates the archive library Other bug fixes and improvements Download: Ocenaudio 64-bit | Portable | ~40.0 MB (Freeware) Download: Ocenaudio for Linux and Mac OS View: Ocenaudio Homepage | Screenshot Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
    • I did think about a Echo show once and it would be useful to see what my cameras see. But my brother got one and I changed my mind. Adverts and not really worth the price just to see my cameras. I have a load of dots and a Echo Gen 4, they will do.
    • I asking where you are from or live, because if you don't live in the U.K, why are you so bothered? That is another reason I voted out, E.U and people poking their noses in where they should not be. Sadly we still have it, Trump, and his cronies. Putin as well and no doubt others. It makes no difference what we believe, if we made the right choice or not, we are out. As I said to someone when the news first broke we have voted out, we just need to make the best of it. I have no problems with closer ties to the E.U, we still need to trade. Just don't want to be in their club.
    • So you think I voted out because i am anti-immigrant. I am fed up with those that come over and think that we owe them something. The ones that are at the moment coming over from France where they are already in a safe country because they think and no doubt will get everything chucked at them. While people who were born and bred here get very little. I have nothing against as i have said before those that come here and work. In fact I know full well that our NHS would struggle without them. I do have a problem with those that come over here and try to push their religion and their way of life onto us. My reasons for voting out was because of what the E.U is and is also becoming. I did not agree with Freedom of movement, not because I don't want people over here, but because people need to be checked before being allowed to cross borders and that goes both ways. But my main thing was because the E.U is becoming if not already a united states of Europe. The only reason countries like Poland and Romania joined was because they had no money. When my partner left Poland, she had nothing, Poland had nothing, that is why she left. Wanted to learn something and earn a living. The E.U would have us back according to Michel Barnier. https://www.euronews.com/my-eu...ator-barnier-tells-euronews Why are you so scared to say what country you are in?
    • I wonder what that line really meant...
