I feel bad becuase all the wasted food... so much wasted food cuz of this... :-( and I love food.

these were uploaded to my counties FB Page. so this is just part of what it was like in my neck of the woods. and by no means the worst, other areas were alot harder hit

driving through town itself when i went to work, looked like a bomb hit it.

Just got power back on yesterday. We had no cell phone service or water either, so it was pretty miserable with temps at or above 100 degrees everyday. Definitely going to buy a full house generator after this. Was one of the few times I'd rather have been at work than at home.

It was fun to watch the facebook for the electric company with people threatening to sue and others saying they have kids so they should be more important to get to first and weird things like that. Here's some photos on their facebook anyways:

This is bad an all, but does anyone ever wonder how the Amish do this in the heat every day 365 days a year?

We have become to dependent :p

i agree, partially... down here a lot of it has to do with house construction, because we have a nice sea breeze that is great if the house is designed to let the air flow through, but so many houses now are designed like mazes that there is no air flow, so it gets really hot inside...

people without electricity still design their houses the old way, so it's not as bad

POWER FINALLY CAME BACK!!!!!!!!! WH0000 H00000

however i have terrible news... my main compie died.....

i think the mobo or the psu fried.... i had it on my apc ups.... me thinks it did something wonky.... or when i had it up for 80 days without a reboot and 120 days without a power cycle that could have done it in....

i will be in contact with apc to see what i can do....

bittersweet return.....

I have also emerged out of this with a entirely different perspective on my area.... it's not so bad after all... everyone came together and helped eachother out, and we all dealt with it really really good. I am impressed. very.

I also have now started a new chapter in my life. I will vol. at a no kill animal shelter after I get my **** together. I wanna help the kitties!!!!!!!!!

The big Midwest & NE US storm was a derecho (day-RAY-cho) - a fast moving stormfront that can produce straight-line winds of 200 mph (320 kph). Nasty. We get them in the Midwest rather often, the worst being a type known locally as "green storms" because the sky actually turns green. A particularly wicked one hit the Detroit area in 1980; up to 150 mph winds, power out 2 weeks, trees down everywhere, and our 24 foot diameter above the ground pool was moved more than a foot off its foundation.

People will almost always surprise you in times of crisis. I've seen it many times. Seems like something good came from all of this after all. People will remember this long after the bad memories are gone.

we got nailed pretty good a couple days ago (July 5th around 4am) and knocked over a good sized tree in our yard right from the ground as it was a clean break from down in the ground a bit. the winds where blowing pretty hard i think somewhere around 60mph or so. it even blew open a door in on the deck as we left the windows open a bit and must have pressurized it a bit in there etc. even knocked some shingles off the roof as i seen one in the yard.

i think i was on the PC at the time it happened to as the power basically kicked on and off roughly a few times which it usually does not do that (like usually might go out and then stay out for a bit or immediately come back on as soon as it briefly goes out) and i am thinking that's when the tree came down as the direction it fell i am pretty sure some of it's limbs would have smacked the power line pretty good to the house on it's way down. but luckily the power did not say out especially considering it's very warm in Michigan right now as it's been into the 90's lately with high humidity (it's usually not this hot. so it sort of picked a bad time for a power outage as i imagine it would be a bitch without AC right now) but apparently some of our neighbors down the road has their power out for a couple days or something along those lines.

this was probably around 4am when the tree came down assuming it fell when i think it did with the power flickering on and off.

p.s. side note: when the power did cut off briefly it was weird as my computer screen was the first to power off and then maybe a second or so later the whole house (and the rest of my computer) powered off then started kicking on and off briefly a few times and then everything was fine after that.

Thank u so much everyone.... and this changed me way more than that launch did actually...

i got closure on 3 things this spring/summer thus far:

1)dad's ashes finally launched

2)bob evans opinion changed and i no longer associate them with puking, and trolling.

3)came to terms with my area and it's not so bad as indicated above

what a powerful time this has been for me and i came out stronger and now can take anything...

i am so fried after all this and it will take me a long time to get completly recovered as well as my entire area.... now... i now wish my area the best and EVERYONE AFFECTED BY THESE STORMS AND ANY OTHER.

It was reported winds got between 60-70 mph in my area

My Grandparents still dont have power

I had 72mph sustained for the duration it was here. however i am glad they had foresight and trimmed the branches of a buncha trees before this hit!

before this my neighbor had cut a tree down that was very close to my house but on thier prop. and they cut it down not too long ago... i was upset at first, however after this i walked up and thanked them perofusely for it... it could have obliterated my house if they left it!

but damn... i've changed so much after this... and so has my area.... we will come back stronger and wiser after this... everyone will!!!!
