i actually find this thread interesting b/c ive been considering deactivating my account. i'm tired of FB's pervasiveness. i'm tired of hearing about it every single day of my life. i dont even touch my account. the only reason im still barely holding on to it is for the occasional family member that'll contact me, or some Invitation.

What will change for you, if you disable it?

I had an account for a long time, but never did much with it until I moved away from the town in which I went to uni and had "settled" the longest out of anywhere I'd lived in my life, so I had the most friends. I wanted to keep in touch with them so I started using it again. I find myself using it less and less over the past year or so, though, between the "updates" that make it worse and worse every time, and all the sketchy privacy stuff, and now that they're publicly traded they just see me as dollar signs... Meh. I maintain a photo album on there relating to one of my hobbies, but that's about it.

I am considering deleting mine. I made it to keep in touch with distant family and friends, I only talk to like 5 or 6 people total out of the 118 friends that I bothered to add.

Reading all of this is only making me want to delete it more- some people just take Facebook so seriously.

I like Facebook. It keeps me up to date with my family, and friends. Be that the ones around me, or the ones in other states or countries.

It's easy to talk to get hold of people, and really, if people let it consume them, then that's not Facebook's fault. I post plenty of information on there, because I'm not a jackass. If I don't want you seeing it, you won't see it.

Got rid of mine about a month ago. Don't miss it. Some questions for me were "Why do I want to be in touch with these people from high school that I didn't even like?" as well as "Why do I need to hear every persons every waking moment of their life?" Among other reasons were privacy and security concerns I had with them.

Yea, no thanks. If I want to hear from somebody and how they are doing, I will use the age-old technology: phones.

Closed, and not going back.
