ive seen that divx is bascially also a codec pack. like i mentioned i do not wish to use codec packs or alterntaive players.

If you want to play MKV files you have NO CHOICE but to install third party codecs. What part of that sentence is it that you have trouble understanding, exactly?

I have been using Shark 007's codec pack for nearly 3 years now. No issues whatsoever. Stop buying into people's stupid fearmongering and either install the codecs you need or just accept that you can't play some formats without them. You can't have your cake and eat it, sorry.

please understand that you cannot proceed on .mkv file playback without the use of codec packs such as CCCP.

Personally i'd advise against using the K-Lite pack, it's known to screw with Windows 7's default codecs, but most other packs are pretty good.

I have had no problems using K-Lite on windows 7, maybe their older versions had problems but in the 2 months I've used it I've had NO problems

@ Brando212 I guess some people just can't handle being told that what they want to do is impossible without some sort of third party involvement or impractical because of the amount of time needed to get it working

personally I don't touch WMP12 with a 100000 foot barge pole it's crap

My preferred choice is MPC-HC as there's no need for codec packs they're built in it plays everything I've thrown at it
