btw, the latest known build in the MS server new folder \\winbuilds\release\WIN8_RTM\ is 8508.0.120703-1900

full build string: 8508.0.winmain_win8rtm.120703-1900

Seems there would be more compilations until RTM sign-off. :o

Looks like they'll just bump it up to 8600 when they've signed off on RTM. Now I'm waiting for official pricing for full copies, I need to move up to 64bit finally.

Only if the $40 upgrade lets me go from 32bit Win7 to 64bit Win8 Pro, then sure. But I don't know if it does.

It will do as you can do a clean install with the upgrade. A licence key will work on either the 32bit or 64bit editions, Its been that way since Vista.

If you use the x86 win7 to run WUA.exe, you will download win8 x86. But Mr. Leblanc confirmed that you can use WRP to run WUA.exe.

So, download/install WRP x64, run WUA.exe in it, then you download win8 x64, on the purchase process submit your win7 key, Like InsaneNutter said, the win7 key is good for x86/x64.

Put in the win8 media, in the choose partition screen click "Drive Options"-> format; then install win8 x64 nice and clean. :)

Hmm, that does sound like a good work around. I'll probably give that a go then when the time comes.

I'm gonna start looking for a SSD now, only downside is that my board only supports SATA2 and not SATA3. Though that's still pretty fast compared to old HDDs.

yeah, i only have SATA2 and still my SSD is screamingly faster than a HDD. I installed Windows 7 on it from a USB stick in 10 minutes.

SATA2 is fine for a single SSD, and don't get any bright ideas about installing a SATA3 card. The cost of high latency will make it not worth it..

It's the same product key. You can happily switch arch. if you wish.

To-day there is an update for which, if your machine had met freezing issues, you would be too happy to download and install:

If you had used the "Install HyperV" or "Disable DynamicTick" methods to stop the freezing issue, install the update then un-install HyperV or Enable DynamicTick and see if the update works, DynamicTick, if enabled, helps in slowing down battery drain.

BCDEdit /set disabledynamictick no

Seems next week will be an exciting week, maybe win8 RTM as well?

i thought they would launch them together?

MS had offcially announced that win8 RTM release in August, so I could just hope that it may RTM next week, not the launching. :)

btw, editing my last post about build 8514, source is mydrivers.com http://news.mydrivers.com/1/234/234332.htm

nah was talking about office

shouldn't it RTM close to Windows 8 ? or else WinRT would be officeless at launch(wouldn't imagine they would ship beta software with production machine)

    • Shocker! It would be crazy to be ready to introduce a "fold" phone but have no plans happening for a followup model.
    • XBOX is at the end of its generational life cycle and wasn't selling much anyway. They need to figure out the pricing for XBOX Helios. However, I'm not buying the DRAM shortage with AI preferring HBM. I think it's industry gouging.
