IceBreakerG
This is crazy. I was actually considering moving to Arizona, but the more I see it in the news, the more I realize just how screwed up that state is. necroxd
Thus dude s a complete and total sack of ****. Seriously you say yes and move along. Here's how mine goes. Immigration Officer: Citizen? Me: Yes IO: Have a nice day. Before anyone says anything I am originally Mexican and look Mexican and have a Mexican accent. In the time he spent arguing he could have been 3 miles up the road. Kelxin
Actually, the arguing was faster than what they wanted... I was pulled over in Colorado because my temporary plates on my new car came unstuck to the back window due to the new tint that was applied that day. I was held there for over an hour, then given a ticket for "exhibition of speed and weaving" when I was doing 45 in a 55, and had changed lanes once to right in 8 miles. United States law enforcement needs to be put in check NOW. remixedcat 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1090417-welcome-to-arizona/#findComment-594994633 Share on other sites

necroxd
Its not about the immigration its about customs. See while they ask there's a dog doing a quick sniff no bark no drug your good to go. Hell I've answered "Si" before and I get a funny look and get told to move along. andrewbares and Charisma 2 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1090417-welcome-to-arizona/#findComment-594994643 Share on other sites

devHead
The thing is, if this smug driver wants to make a point, doing it with a police officer who's just doing his job is not the right place or time. He could easily just say, 'yes' and he'd be able to move on without any trouble. But he is filming it, and he's trying to make some point because of course he posted it on YouTube also. Now, I'm not saying it's right for the police to just stop people everywhere, but this guys barking up the wrong tree if he's trying to make a point. If he's just trying to make something flashy and interesting to put up on YouTube, then, he's made his point. necroxd, andrewbares and Charisma 3 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1090417-welcome-to-arizona/#findComment-594994703 Share on other sites

andrewbares
So when I fly on an airplane I shouldn't have to show my license right??????? This guy is being foolish. And as someone already said... Checkpoints are for making sure there are no drugs and that there aren't 20 people in the back of your van. They're not for just asking "are you a citizen". They have drug dogs there and they always check through your windows. And no, he's wrong thinking that "I'm in America, I should be able to travel freely". That's like "I killed someone but I'm in America, I should be able to not be arrested for it", or "I illegally immigrated to America and I'm here illegally, but I'm in America and should be able to do whatever I want". This guy is probably just trying to get hits on YouTube and become "famous". 123456789A 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1090417-welcome-to-arizona/#findComment-594996971 Share on other sites

Me: Yes IO: Have a nice day. Before anyone says anything I am originally Mexican and look Mexican and have a Mexican accent. In the time he spent arguing he could have been 3 miles up the road. The point is he shouldn't be asked that, or stopped for that! It's like looking for a car theif, and stopping everycar that passes by and asking if you are the thief we are looking for. "Are you the theif? No? Have a good day sir!" It's a stupid way to find the non-citizens, unless you are Dr. Cal Lightman. andrewbares
The point is he shouldn't be asked that, or stopped for that! He's not being stopped for that... checkpoints are for ensuring there aren't drugs or a fiesta of illegal amigos in your trunk. If they actually cared about the "Are you a citizen" question, they wouldn't have let him go. I would think the show Lie To Me would have made you smarter than this... He has the full ability to turn around and not drive through that checkpoint before he reaches it, just like if he were a murderer he has the full ability to not walk into a police station where his face could be identified as the murderer. "I'm in America, I should be able to travel freely and not be stopped by DUI checkpoints!" His ridiculous logic can be extended to all these things, showing you how ridiculous it is. That doesn't work that way. Try turning around before a police checkpoint and see how far away you get before they come after you. theyarecomingforyou
If people don't stand up for their rights then they get trampled on. You shouldn't have random checkpoints requiring you to state and/or prove your citizenship. In Europe you can drive freely between countries in mainland Europe under the Schengen Agreement - that means there are no checkpoints when going between say France and Belgium for instance. So while this guy may have been deliberately confrontational, the point he was making is extremely valid. The failing here is on the part of US politicians and the implementation by law enforcement of such policies. As much as he was a jerk I applaud the guy. These checkpoints help ensure that a truckload of immigrants don't come into our country. This may not be an issue for your precious country, but in Arizona it's a big big issue. And as we've said countless times, nowhere do they ever have to PROVE their citizenship. Anyone can say yes. They're not worried about that question.
