Is anyone looking forward to Tony Hawks HD? It?s actually the first game in the Tony Hawks series I?ve been looking forward to for years. No half-baked story, no weird skate board you have to stand on like with Tony Hawks ride, just pure gameplay.

Might just be me, however I hate games that try and add a story just for the sake of making the game a bit longer, its been done with Tony Hawks for years, same with Sonic.. I love how Sonic went back to its roots with Generations, now Tony Hawks is with this new arcade game.

It would appear split screen play has been dropped in favor of XBLA support, I would have loved both, then again i'm greedy like that.

Absolutely. (Y)

In fact I just picked up a 1600 point MS card from Best Buy earlier today and redeemed my code on XBox.com in anticipation of Tuesday.

The original games are easily up there with some of my fondest gaming memories ever, so an HD remake? Absolutely looking forward to it.

And my wife just happens to be going away for the weekend this upcoming weekend, so the plan is plenty of playing it next weekend.

I'll definitely be getting it. I loved the old school THPS games back on the ps1. And this should be basically that, made up to date. Only problem is that i wont have much time to play it this week before the gw2 beta weekend eats all my gaming time this weekend. oh well.

Cant remember which Tony Hawk I started playing, but pretty much loved playing them on my original xbox. I'll def pick this up if its reasonable... do we know if its 1600 points?

I beleive it should be $15, whatever the hell that is in MS's annoying points system(i can never be bothered to remember the conversion).

I know its 80 points = 1, so $15x80 = 1200 points.. i think I can do $15.. hopefully the DLC isnt crazy priced (haha..)

This is a PRIME example of why I wish the D pad on the 360 controller was better then it actually is, as this game must be played with it. It is playable, but not ideal by any means. Probably going to wind up picking it up for the PS3 since the D Pad on the Dualshock is much more responsive. Slowly getting used to it on the 360 controller, but it really is not ideal. I just honestly totally forgot that this game basically needs the D Pad, and is not very precise at all with the analog stick.

I can't remember any worse D pad than the regular 360 controller one.

Seriously, what was MS smoking when designing that POS around such an otherwise PERFECT controller?

Makes me a little sad really, tons of lost potential for a controller that even with that flaw is so "lovable".

Excellent, I adored Tony Hawks back when it was all arcade.

I know it was the first Mac game I ever played and I was astounded by how well it performed on a machine that by pure numbers wouldn't have done the same job in Windows.

I was very pleased and play Tony Hawks on N-Gage, iPhone, Xbox 360, PC, PS1 and I bet some other system.

Good times... Speaking of arcade and some earlier mention of Sega (Sonic), any admirers of Crazy Taxi here?

That game is the sh**.

Anyone know how to beef up the Steam version? It's de-branded and misses all the good licensed songs!

(de-branded = Pizza Hut is now "Pizza In" or some crap like that... >_>)

I still have my Dreamcast hooked up for Crazy Taxi (and Virtua Tennis), the remakes have been crap. How am I supposed to drive fast with out Bad Religion?

And this is how bad video gaming has become, people prefer old games to new haha.

Something is wrong here, or maybe they should start making proper games again.

Even though it's true, a bit of nostalgia factor is present in the fact that people are all "I can play X, but using brand new tech, this is amazing!"

@ Glassed. Yep, Crazy Taxi is also a classic. Loved that game as well.

But yeah, really wish the D Pad was better. No point beating a dead horse, but it is taking away from the overall enjoyment slightly, but I am getting used to it actually. Just so damn stiff, and need fluidness for a game like this.

I do not look at it that way at all really, meaning I do not prefer playing it, I just see it is revisiting a game I used to actually love and playing it again with better graphics. I will get back to playing recent games much sooner then later honestly. But for right now, I am enjoying the trip down memory lane, and it is actually somewhat amusing seeing how the game is these days.

Picked this up earlier today as I've been highly anticipating it.

I love the redesigned old levels, and I'm having a blast. Got Warehouse and School II 100% complete so far.

I have only two complaints. They really should've used the original soundtracks from both games. The new songs are meh, but loving the old songs from the originals. And, c'mon, no Dead Kennedy's 'Police Truck', or Primus' 'Jerry was a racecar driver'? Mannnn..

My other complaint is the controls. It can get frustrating with the Xbox D-pad and/or analog stick. Also, not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but the games responsiveness seems very off, there is some milliseconds of lag between when I hit ollie, or try to kickflip, etc. It has taken some getting used to, and is a pain. And wallrides could have definitely used more work. Trying to get those bells in School II was a PITA!

Overall though, it is a fun bit of nostalgia, and a good $15 spent in my book. Looking at some of the achievements, and one being

Sorry it was just something that made me laugh because Doom 3 is coming out again and I'm totally looking forward to it despite playing it and completing it years ago.

I'm not sure if it's myself only, but due to the track record of games playability these days I find myself looking forward to older titles being re-released.

I'm tempted to pick TH up as everyone else, it was a good game back then with great music and good courses / parks. Funny thing is I'm not a huge skateboarding person, but the game was good!

I thought the lag was just the D Pad sucking, but yeah, it is there for sure. It is only slight as you said, but it is there.

And yeah, those damn wall rides on the school level were indeed a huge pain in the ass. Finally did them though. I just need to secret DVD and I will have 100% the school level as well. Well also the sick score, but I will get that no problem. I do all the goals first, then the score, as that is the easy part out of each level so far.

Also it would have been really great if they could have kept the old soundtrack, definitely.

No need at all to say sorry, was just chiming in on why I do not mind it. I will be picking up Doom 3 as well, so maybe I am a sucker for these old games after-all.

Is it wrong that i want to pick this game up solely for Goldfinger - Superman?

When i used to play the original, when that song started i knew i was going to blitz the stage.

It is weird how many people talk about the soundtrack. When it is just licenced material. I'm not complaining because i'm one of those people.

Haha, I'm feeling you.

I guess Crazy Taxi gamers feel this symptom the most / most common.

The Steam version just does not cut it AT ALL whatsoever.

It's like an entirely different game and surely my performance lowers the less happy I am about the soundtrack, which is weird, but true.

I think if you striped GTA2 from its so darn funny radio stations and inserted random music only, lacking the witty hosts, then I'm sure that would be apparent there, too.

It's crazy but true, soundtracks are DAMN important.

Right, Tetris? ;)

Great, now I have the Tetris song stuck in my head.

I do think the "play whatever music you want from your hard drive" mentality killed good soundtracks in games.

So, I couldn't help myself and stayed up until around 1:30AM last night playing.

I completed the entire career 100% with Andrew Reynolds. After awhile, you get used to the lag in the controls and all. One thing I never got used to was the sheer speed when you have all your stats maxed. You get going ridiculously fast, and it's hard to stop or get a goal done. Downhill Jam was the biggest pain for me all around (and one level I definitely never missed.) I tried a bit of Hawkman and Big Head Survival. They are OK, but I wasn't really a big fan. I may try and go for a few achievements tonight. I miss the miniature skate videos you used to get when you beat the game. After I beat it, I was like... "Where's my skate video?!" :p

I was letdown they didn't have the Philadelphia level from THPS2. =/

But I love that they are adding the Airport from THPS3. That was my favorite level in THPS3!

I do it opposite. I always knock out the score first. It's the one thing I know I can do pretty quickly and easily (except on Downhill Jam). :p

One thing I didn't find out until Marseille (the last level) is that if you hit Start/Pause, then hit RB, it brings up the map and has the location of all the goals/objects/items right there. I remembered where most of them were all these years, but some I needed a heads up on, especially Marseille considering that used to be a competition level back in THPS2.

That is one song I could do without, lol. I never understood why so many people liked it. Just not my type of music, I guess.

I think I may rebuild the original playlist tonight to play to.

Currently on Venice Beach, almost done with all of the major goals. I have however been able to get all of the cash on any of the levels thus far, as I really only tried to get the cash that was obvious on all the maps. I will go back to recollect the cash on those levels with the help of the in game map.

I also wish you can undo stat decisions, but it appears that you cannot. I upgraded some of the stats of my character, and wish I could take them back. ****** moves way to quick now for my liking. Buy overall I am truly enjoying the hell out of the game itself. Has been a truly nostalgic and very memorable trip down memory lane. In fact, going to go play a little right now. Fun ass game overall.

I can't seem to figure this one out, how do you get to the secret DVD on School II?

Yeah, this was actually the hardest one so far for myself as well.

That courtyard to the far right at the start of the level has a half pipe in the center of the yard right? Exact opposite side of that is a small little ramp that with enough speed will launch you up to the roof.

What I did was at the start of the level, turn around and go left and get a lot of speed in what is basically that little half pipe, go 2 or 3 times in it, speed down the one sidewalk with a grind, basically go up to the platform make a u turn towards the half pipe do a big air then go towards the little ramp with a ton of speed, and you basically have to do a boneless as well.

For the uneducated (me) what's a boneless :p thanks!

Press up twice then ollie. (Y)

Also I believe pressing up once and doing an ollie will do a no comply.

Also, not sure if you encountered any of the levels yet where you get a Big Drop message, but when you do, you have to hold down A to land, or else you always crash. That drove me absolutely nuts for a long time.

Finally let me share this guys videos on YouTube.

Breaks down every goal for every level on this new remastered HD version. Has helped me do the harder goals on the later levels.

I just linked to Downhill Jam, but you can find every level in his history. I have only had to use the videos twice now, both for Secret DVDs on the later levels. Even with him showing exactly how to get the one in Downhill Jam, have yet to get it, as it is a damn hard path getting to it.

    • One big question about Mars was answered thanks to Einstein's 100 year old theory by Sayan Sen Image via DepositPhotos Scientists at the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) have calculated how time passes on Mars compared with Earth, adding detail to how timekeeping would need to work beyond Earth’s orbit. The study, published in The Astronomical Journal, found that clocks on Mars run an average of 477 microseconds, or millionths of a second, faster per day than clocks on Earth. A microsecond is one millionth of a second, a very small unit used in precise scientific timing systems such as atomic clocks, which measure time using consistent atomic behavior. This difference is not constant. Because Mars moves around the Sun in a non-circular path (an eccentric orbit, meaning its distance from the Sun changes over time instead of staying fixed) and is affected by gravity from other bodies, the daily difference can vary by as much as 226 microseconds over a Martian year. The study also identifies smaller repeating changes of about 40 microseconds per day linked to synodic cycles (repeating periods that describe how planets line up with each other as they orbit the Sun from different positions). These longer patterns affect how time differences slowly rise and fall. To make these estimates, researchers compared Mars with Earth and the Moon. The work looks at relativistic proper time (the time actually measured by a clock depending on its speed and the strength of gravity where it is located, as described in Einstein’s relativity). This shows that each world has its own slightly different “rate” of time. This becomes more important as space missions expand into cislunar space (the region between Earth and the Moon) and toward Mars. On Earth, time systems rely on atomic clocks and satellites, which stay closely synchronized for navigation and communication. The study is based on Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity, which shows that time is affected by gravity and motion. Stronger gravity makes clocks run slower, while weaker gravity makes them run faster. “The time is just right for the Moon and Mars,” said NIST physicist Bijunath Patla. “This is the closest we have been to realizing the science fiction vision of expanding across the solar system.” A day on Mars is about 40 minutes longer than on Earth, and a Martian year lasts 687 Earth days. But the main question is not just about days and years, but how fast time itself passes. An atomic clock placed on Mars would function normally, but compared with one on Earth, the two would slowly drift apart due to differences in gravity and motion. This requires careful calculation of what is similar to a time-zone difference across planets. Researchers modeled Mars using a reference surface and included gravitational effects from the Sun, Earth, the Moon, and other planets. This includes a multi-body gravitational system (often described as a three-body or four-body problem, where predicting motion becomes difficult because multiple large objects all pull on each other at the same time through gravity). Mars also follows a Keplerian orbit (an idealized elliptical orbit based on simple gravitational laws that assume smooth motion, before adding real-world disturbances from other bodies). In addition, the researchers accounted for solar tides (small changes in gravitational force caused by the Sun that slightly distort planetary motion and timing, especially in systems involving Earth and the Moon). These combined effects are described as relativistic proper-time offsets (small but measurable differences in elapsed time between locations caused by gravity and motion), which must be included when comparing clocks across planets. “But for Mars, that’s not the case. Its distance from the Sun and its eccentric orbit make the variations in time larger. A three-body problem is extremely complicated. Now we’re dealing with four: the Sun, Earth, the Moon and Mars,” Patla explained. “The heavy lifting was more challenging than I initially thought.” Although the differences are extremely small, they matter for navigation and communication systems that depend on precise timing. Even modern networks on Earth, such as mobile systems, rely on timing accuracy at very small fractions of a second. Communication between Earth and Mars currently takes about four to 24 minutes or more depending on planetary positions, meaning signals are not real-time. A shared and accurate time system could help future missions reduce confusion in navigation and data exchange. “If you get synchronization, it will be almost like real-time communication without any loss of information. You don’t have to wait to see what happens,” Patla said. Researchers note that fully developed interplanetary communication networks are still far in the future. However, understanding how time behaves across planets helps prepare for those systems. “It may be decades before the surface of Mars is covered by the tracks of wandering rovers, but it is useful now to study the issues involved in establishing navigation systems on other planets and moons,” said Neil Ashby. “Like current global navigation systems like GPS, these systems will depend on accurate clocks, and the effects on clock rates can be analyzed with the help of Einstein’s general theory of relativity.” Patla added that the results also help improve understanding of time itself under relativity. “It's good to know for the first time what is happening on Mars timewise. Nobody knew that before. It improves our knowledge of the theory itself, the theory of how clocks tick and relativity,” he said. • TeraCopy 4.0 Build 26 by Razvan Serea TeraCopy is a compact program designed to copy and move files at the maximum possible speed, also providing you with a lot of features. Copy files faster. TeraCopy uses dynamically adjusted buffers to reduce seek times. Asynchronous copy speeds up file transfer between two physical hard drives. Pause and resume transfers. Pause copy process at any time to free up system resources and continue with a single click. Error recovery. In case of copy error, TeraCopy will try several times and in the worse case just skips the file, not terminating the entire transfer. Interactive file list. TeraCopy shows failed file transfers and lets you fix the problem and recopy only problem files. Shell integration. TeraCopy can completely replace Explorer copy and move functions, allowing you work with files as usual. TeraCopy is free for non-commercial use only. For commercial use you need to buy a license. The paid version of the program includes the following features: Copy/move to your favorite folders. Save reports as HTML and CSV files. Select files with the same extension/folder. Remove the selected files from the copy queue. TeraCopy 4.0 Build 26 changelog: Added support for receiving files via the LocalSend protocol. Improved exception handling and automated bug report upload. Fixed several minor bugs and small memory leaks. Build 26 (June 24) Fixed a rare exception when a transfer completed. Features added since version 3.17: Enhanced speed graph. New multi-threaded copy engine. Support for copying to multiple targets. Queue system for managing multiple copy operations. Support for receiving files via the LocalSend protocol. TeraCopy entry in the modern Windows Explorer context menu. Integrated toolbar in the title bar. Why receive LocalSend transfers with TeraCopy? Handle file conflicts: Skip, overwrite, or rename files when a file with the same name already exists. LocalSend always creates another copy, which can waste time and disk space, especially when resuming an interrupted transfer. Filter unwanted files: Apply ignore lists or remove files manually before accepting a transfer, so unnecessary files are not downloaded. Better performance on fast networks: In tests over a 10 Gbps connection, TeraCopy received files several times faster than the standard LocalSend app on Windows.
