Everyone expects a new Call of Duty launch every year, but Microsoft and Activision aren't waiting for the Xbox Games Showcase next month to reveal it. Today, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 was officially announced with a trailer, campaign and multiplayer information, and even a firm release date.
You can catch the reveal trailer below, which is picking up the story from where Modern Warfare III (2023) left off. This time, war is erupting in South Korea as North Korean forces, led by a new supreme leader, launch a full-scale invasion on the land, which could destabilize the entire world as the fighting spreads.
"A young squad of South Korean soldiers fights to survive on the collapsing front lines, while half a world away a vengeful Captain Price wages a personal war from the shadows as he stays one step ahead of those hunting him," says the developer Infinity Ward, describing the setting. "As Price’s off-book mission collides with the forces behind the invasion, the war spreads beyond anyone’s control."
Meanwhile, the multiplayer portion will launch with 12 6v6 maps. Gunplay is a big focus this time according to Activision, promising "no bloom, no guesswork, no doubt" when it comes to the gameplay.
- Bloom has been removed, making hipfire shots feel more direct, predictable, and connected to where the weapon is pointed.
- Recoil, convergence, and weapon handling have been rebuilt to more directly reflect player input.
- Depth of field and visual effects have been refined to improve enemy visibility without sacrificing authenticity.
- Weapons respond more naturally to player movement, stance changes, and the environment, creating more consistent behavior in every engagement.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is releasing on October 23, 2026, across PC (Steam, Xbox, Battle.net), Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and the Nintendo Switch 2. Don't forget that Call of Duty games aren't a part of Game Pass at launch anymore.
This means the studio is officially ditching last-generation consoles while bringing in the Nintendo console for the first time. For the PC version, Activision has partnered with Beenox, while it is also working with Digital Legends for the Switch 2 port.

Pre-orders have already gone live across most platforms too, with the standard edition coming in at $69.99. As expected, more expensive versions are also available for fans with additional in-game bonuses. Anyone who pre-orders the game will also receive access to the upcoming beta earlier.
