cacoe
I preferred the window borders when there was just a single pixel of colour as seen with office 2013. Hope that stays as an option. Is that taskbar even chunkier than the full sized windows 7 taskbar?

George P Global Moderator Posted July 22, 2012 Global Moderator Share Posted July 22, 2012 I dunno about the Office 2013 window borders but the ones in the screenshots are the same as they are on Windows 7 as far as thickness, doesn't look like they change it at all. The only difference is that now because it's not glass and it has more color they stand out more. The taskbar looks the same to me as well, at best it might be a few pixels taller to make hitting the systrey icons with a finger easier but that's just a guess. Active.
I'm not a huge fan of the baby blue window borders but colour scheme on the file history window looks great. Didn't Microsoft already say that the white one would be the default theme?
theyarecomingforyou
Is that taskbar even chunkier than the full sized windows 7 taskbar? The screenshot was taken at a higher DPI, so it's 25% larger than the standard size. The default taskbar - as far as we know - will remain the same size. mzta cody
Yeah they bumped up the taskbar metrics it looks like (temporarily or permanently I don't know), the result of which is the increase of the icon sizes and the font size from 9pt to (it looks like) 11 pt in this shot. Subhadip
Loving it! The new taskbar looks so clean! And yes, I agree that they should do away with the borders as well and adopt Office 2013's style.

DrakeN2k
for me some thing is metro is nice , like the clean icons and clean UI , but i believe it goes OTT by removing any form of colour and so much white. Why don't they allow desktop icons that are 255X255 be used in the start screen like a native metro app. maybe the tile colour could be based on the icon colour. or a different boarder colour for desktop app.
redfish
Now they just need metro style icons for everything. I would also make the ribbon headers capital like in the new Office. I personally don't like the change in the Start Screen tiles, but I know a lot of people complained about that, so its probably what led them to change it. Actually, when I think of the 80s I think of anything but minimalism, there was a lot of flashy nonsense in the 80s. MacOS was a bit minimalistic, but had to be just because it was made for monochrome monitors and you can't do too much with two colors without really making things look bad. Fourjays Veteran Posted July 22, 2012 Veteran Share Posted July 22, 2012 Looks like an inconsistent mess to me. I'd say more but I don't know where to begin... I mean, how many UI paradigms do they have going on there?
insanelyapple
Why is everything going flatter? That seems so 80's. I want a UI with bevels and 3d elements not some ugly flat monstrosity. I think that Microsoft turned engines back and stopped somewhere around Neptune/Whistler in design. Theres still huge inconsistency in some GUI elements, but it looks much better than last published version of 8. But i really dont like it. Arceles
 Sigh~ You really have too much spare time and use it to generalize every single Windows user, just like Microsoft is doing right now.
