10 million in 1 month and 24 days

Samsung said last month that it expected to achieve 10 million Galaxy S III sales by the end of July, and according to a report from the Yonhap News Agency, the handset manufacturer has just cleared that hurdle. The phone's early success was hinted at prior to its release, with reports that Samsung had received 9 million pre-orders worldwide, and now Samsung's mobile head Shin Jong-kyun reportedly says that the phone has sold 10 million devices since it was released on May 29th. While the report doesn't give specific figures, or indicate if the sales benchmark includes handsets obtained by retailers or sold to consumers, it's a remarkable feat nonetheless ? one fit for the smartphone manufacturer with the most Olympic panache.

As far as Samsung Android phones go I prefer the Galaxy Nexus over the SIII. Better hardware design and vanilla Android rather than the TouchWiz UX nonsense. Alas, to each their own.

On-topic: 10 million SIII sold within less than two months is certainly impressive. As has been said by others, this puts a significant dent into the iPhone sales numbers. The fruity ones will have to bring more than evolutionary changes to iPhone.next to win some Galaxy S-series buyers back.

That's really good news, hope this will force other companies to bring better phones to market, more competition, more innovation, win win for consumer. (Y)

The best part is that it's 10 million iPhones that didn't get purchased.

Hardly, depending how good the "iPhone 5" is, many could sell their S3 to upgrade to the new iPhone.

Samsung have done a good job, made a great phone and congrats on their fantastic sales efforts (Y). However, they better enjoy it while it lasts because the sales juggernaut, that is Apple, is getting ready to steal the limelight. I fully expect the next iPhone to eclipse those sales figures in at least half the time...doesn't matter who actually has the better phone, Apple know how to play the market.

this is what im hoping for ... my upgrade is not till next year i can only imagine what the phone would/could be like then

Do you have a reading comprehension problem? Unless you think most people actually need to carry around two phones, each sale of the SGS III represents a lost opportunity for Apple. It wouldn't matter if the iPhone 5 gave you a massage with a happy ending. That money is already spent, and Apple's not getting it.

My friend got one less than two months ago. The entire outer rim spontaneously started cracking all the way through at multiple points. So far he's extremely impressed by the build quality. /s

Yea, like iPhones when you drop them from 3ft, they shatter.

You are talking about 1 phone out of over 10million. I am sure if it is a widespread issue, more will start reporting the problems and Samsung will release a statement. So far, all the reviews I have read have been positive and I know 4 people who have the SIII on a couple different providers and each phone works great. (I was able to use both providers)
