D300 - which lens for Torch Relay

I have the chance to see the Olympic torch relay tomorrow morning so I am going to take my D300 in to work to take some photos but not sure which lens to use.

My best lenses are 50mm F1.8 and 35mm F1.8. Will be shooting at street level as they run past so thinking the 35mm lens is best. Which one would you choose?

If you want one of those two then the 35mm.

At street level there will most likely be a crowd though, so I'd get a zoom in case you need different focal lengths.

Well i managed to grab photos at both St Paul's Cathedral and Bank. There were so many people it made it tricky to get any photos at all. I took the 35mm which was the right choice - the 50mm would have been too long.
