If we can get a list of all the required apps and 2 or 3 wanted apps of each genre I can start collecting names on the official repo alternative repos and ones on the aur and build the installer to install them. Now that I have full repo installing and gz.tar installing written in backend.. Just the front end needs to be done.

The next step backend will be direct gz file downloads, which if we host the files ourselves we should have no issues.

Here's a list of all the applications listed so far. Might be time to set up a poll for some of the defaults (bar the web browser if we're going the ballot way)...

Web browser (Ballot on install)

  • Firefox
  • Opera
  • Chromium
  • Konqueror

Email Client

  • Evolution
  • Thunderbird

Instant Messaging

  • Empathy
  • Pidgin
  • XChat
  • Instantbird

Other Web

  • Transmission / QTransmission (Bittorrent daemon and GUI front end respectively)
  • Flash Player (for non-chromium browsers)

GNOME Plugins

Office

  • LibreOffice
  • OpenOffice
  • Office Web Apps / Google docs via browser

Graphics

  • GIMP (Photoshop alternative)
  • XSane (scanner software)

Media Players

  • VLC
  • Rhythmbox
  • Clementine

Runtimes

  • Mono (.NET languages)
  • Python 2.7/3.x
  • Ruby
  • PHP

System

  • NetworkManager
  • Laptop mode tools (Laptops only)
  • CDE (Application packager)

Sound servers

  • Pulseaudio

Compatibility

  • WINE
  • PlayOnLinux

Other

  • XfBurn (CD Burning software)

The next step backend will be direct gz file downloads, which if we host the files ourselves we should have no issues.

A good idea, with two possible issues, we don't have a host (yet), and if the application code is GPL licensed, we'll need to provide links to source for all packages, and keep them up to date to remain compliant.

Do we want to do optional de's? Or are we set with gnome3? I like cinnamon, but am just wondering. I could always set it up as like.. Some sort of parsed script files... Almost like code the program can parse and display making it easier to update or change without altering code
