Shapeshifter allows you to manage your clipboard in a way you?ve never tried before. With Shapeshifter, you can copy several things and have multiple items in your clipboard at any time, no matter the format. The program is updated daily for improvements in both visual design, stability, performance and features.

1.jpg

In the above screenshot, the user has copied a layer from Photoshop, a text-message from Skype, a file from a folder, an image from Chrome and a collection of files from a folder. The user is then holding down CTRL + V to see an intuitive interface from where he/she can browse through the clipboard history, and select which clipboard item to paste with the arrow keys (all still while holding down CTRL + V).

The interface itself adapts to your design choices in Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8. The glow around the border and the active selection color is chosen directly from your personalized Aero color in Windows.

The good thing about this type of software is that it doesn?t change your current habbits. The idea of a clipboard manager isn?t new, but it often involves something tedious such as selecting the item to paste from a context menu.

With Shapeshifter, you don?t have to get used to anything. It just works.

What?s new in this version:

  • Copy any kind of format to your clipboard
  • Have several items in your clipboard
  • Stability improvements when copying from Chrome to Firefox
  • Performance improvements

Good grief, how many people are going to use the "shapeshifter" name for a piece of software? This is at least the third one that I know of, and there are probably more.

http://shapeshifter.cebix.net/ (Mac II emulation software for the Amiga)

http://en.wikipedia....ter_(animation) (animation software)

http://en.wikipedia....fter_(software) (the one talked about in this post)

Anyone else have any to add to the list?

edit: already found #4 : http://www.shapeshif...et.nz/#products (CAD suite)

edit 2: and #5: http://www.unsanity....s/shapeshifter/ (customization software for OS X)

edit 3: #6: http://shape-shifter.software.informer.com/ (a game)

Damn, is this some record for the most different pieces of software with the same name???

Take a chill pill and add a 7th "Shapeshifter" to that list! :D

I don't see the issue in any way, and yes - I am well-informed that there are many applications with the name "Shapeshifter", just like there is a lot of applications with other generic terms or generic words as names. Shapeshifting is a generic term and hence can't be trademarked. In my head Shapeshifting when switching between clipboard items made sense. If it didn't to you, let me know. Perhaps you're not the only one thinking that - and if that's the case, I'd better get back to the drawing board and make up something more "original".

Would be awesome if you could come up with some ideas for improvement in terms of naming.

Very interesting. I've been looking for a clipboard manager and this one has style as well.

Thanks a lot - let me know what you think of it.

Shapeshifting to me would not lead me to think about a clipboard program.

Clippy

Clip buddy

something along those lines would makemore sense for a clipboard program

It's just not very symbolic, and lacks creativity if you ask me. Thanks for making up those suggestions though. I'll talk to the others to hear their opinions.

Exactly my point. People need to start checking if a name is already in use before releasing a piece of software. Wouldn't be nice to get sued by someone for violating a trademark. Seriously, it took me just a couple of minutes on Google to find all of those. Why can't software authors do the same when deciding on a name for their programs?

Just let Apple make something called Shapeshifter. Then they can sue everyone else who uses the name from that point forward.

Im sorry but that statement is only true if the first time you tried using a computer was last week.

Im all for finding a replacement to ClipX because its no longer updated however I have yet to find something that comes close to the simplicity. Happy to give this a go.

Edit:

Just tried using it on an XP laptop and its telling me setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application

We don't support ancient Operating Systems.

Of course I read the instructions. It just didn't work.

Interesting. Would be great to be able to reproduce this so that I can get it fixed.

Can you record a quick http://screenr.com session of it? Won't take long, and it would help me a lot.

    • Same Internet Archive seemed to grab the new version https://web.archive.org/web/20...d/Setup_MakeMKV_v1.18.4.exe Here's the link to an additional file it periodically downloads https://web.archive.org/web/20260213092148/https://www.makemkv.com/sdf.bin I think update's keys, etc. To manually trigger this update, put the sdf.bin file in the root of where the program is installed. When you launch the program it will pick up the file and import it. Typically put it here: C:\Program Files (x86)\MakeMKV\sdf.bin
    • Windows 11 KB5094126, KB5093998 bugging out Office apps but it may not be Microsoft's fault by Sayan Sen Microsoft last week released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. Although the tech giant did not acknowledge any major problems, some users online reported various issues ranging from OneDrive and Dropbox access problems, BitLocker recovery lockouts, to blue screens and BSODs. You can read about them in this dedicated piece. While there is still no confirmation about those problems from Microsoft the company has admitted to another bug which we did not report on. The tech giant has confirmed it has received reports of an issue in which certain third-party applications may be unable to launch Microsoft Office apps or open Office documents after installing the Patch Tuesday. This affects both Windows 11 as well as Windows 10. The company says the problem impacts a subset of applications that rely on OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) automation to communicate with Microsoft Office programs. According to Microsoft, affected scenarios involve third-party software attempting to open Office applications or documents from within their own interface. In such cases, the Office program may fail to launch altogether, or the requested document may not open. Oddly there may not be any error message, which probably makes the issue difficult to diagnose. The bug affects several Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and other apps in the Microsoft Office suite when they are launched through the affected software. These include tax and accounting software such as CCH Engagement and Workpaper Manager, dental practice management solutions like Dentrix and Softdent, as well as the popular research and reference management tool Zotero. Microsoft adds that other applications using similar Office integration methods could also experience the same problematic behavior. To understand the issue it is important to look at OLE, the Microsoft technology involved. OLE allows different applications to work together and share data, while its Automation feature lets one program control another. Thus this enables third-party software to launch Microsoft Office apps, open documents, and perform tasks automatically without requiring users to switch between programs. Because many accounting, healthcare, research, and business applications rely on OLE automation to interact with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Office apps, any disruption can break those workflows. As a result, affected software may be unable to open Office documents or launch Office applications even though the programs themselves continue to work normally. At the moment the company has not provided a permanent fix though it has confirmed that engineers are actively working on a resolution, which will be delivered through a future Windows update. As such additional details will be shared once more information becomes available. In the meantime, Microsoft recommends a simple workaround for affected users whic is to open the Office application or document directly rather than launching it through the third-party program. For enterprise customers and organizations managing larger deployments, Microsoft says an additional mitigation is available. Admins experiencing the problem on their managed devices are advised to contact Microsoft Support for business to obtain and apply the workaround.
