0 Calum Veteran Posted August 7, 2012 Veteran Share Posted August 7, 2012 Don't get your hopes up, people :p The installer has been rebranded ("Live" removed and the Windows Live design removed), but some of the apps are still named Windows Live X (e.g. Windows Live Messenger), some of them still have the Windows Live design, and they all still have the Windows Live icons :s Some of the new features in Photo Gallery and Movie Maker sound cool, though, especially Auto Collage :)
0 scumdogmillionaire
Photo Gallery and Movie Maker droppd the "Live" branding. Still there in WLM for some reason.

0 +Elі Subscriber² Posted August 7, 2012 Subscriber² Share Posted August 7, 2012 I think this is great news! Microsoft will still be supporting Windows Live Writer and the regular version of Messenger, many were afraid if MS would just kill them all in favor of the Apps in Windows 8, (There's even an on line petition to keep support of those programs), looks that this will not be the case then. 0 Descartes
Gaah...it uninstalls Live Mesh! Be careful. Jesus, thanks for the heads up. I use Live Mesh on all my computers, and while it wouldn't be catastrophical, it sure would be a waste of time to revert to the old version. I use Live Mesh on all my computers, and while it wouldnt be catastrophical it sure would've been a waste of time to revert to the old version. On the other hand, movie maker finally supports mp4 exports. Tough decision, I am going to try and force mesh on top of this :p

0 +Warwagon MVC Posted August 8, 2012 MVC Share Posted August 8, 2012 The new Movie maker is a prime example of them thinking that users are too stupid, and in turn making a dumbed down UI.

Movie Maker has been like this for a long time. Which means you don't use it anyway, so why complain? Anyway, boring update. :|
0 BajiRav
Great! Let me know how it goes. No luck :( I would suggest grabbing the offline installer if you plan on using mesh while they "fix" skydrive. :s I suddenly feel like AndreaBorman  http://www.thewindowsclub.com/windows-live-essentials-2011-offline-installers-for-indian-and-other-languages simsie, Ambroos and siah1214 3 Share

The Photo Gallery can Upload to Facebook, SkyDrive, YouTube, Flickr, Vimeo and Groups I don't think they've updated the UI at all. It's just that because Movie Maker used the Ribbon interface, it looks native to whichever operating system it's used on. Jesus, thanks for the heads up. 0 Brandon H Supervisor Posted August 8, 2012 Supervisor Share Posted August 8, 2012 The easy to setup and use Remote Desktop feature is killer for me. have you tried TeamViewer? i always personally found that to be a much better remote desktop app. not to mention they have an app for android and iOS as well :)

I've used it once, but wasn't really a fan. I'd rather stick with Live Mesh for a while if possible.
0 BajiRav
The installer removes Windows Live Mesh but it installs SkyDrive. Is there a reason you cannot use SkyDrive instead of Live Mesh? I actually used to use both. I use Skydrive for backing up and syncing everything except Photos + Videos. Skydrive has limited storage (even top tier paid 100GB won't be enough for me) and it also doesn't support peer2peer or selective sync. My photo + video library combined are ~168GB and growing. Your first born does that to your photos+videos :) The easy to setup and use Remote Desktop feature is killer for me. Remote Desktop iswas broken for me anyway. 0 Descartes
The installer removes Windows Live Mesh but it installs SkyDrive. Is there a reason you cannot use SkyDrive instead of Live Mesh? Because they offer different functionalities (I actually have both of them installed) SkyDrive synces your local SD folder and your cloud SD folder. Live Mesh synces multiple folders between your computers (and optionally your SkyDrive) AND provides a convenient Remote Access solution between all the computers you have installed it on. The latter is what I mainly use it for.
0 efjay
Any suggestions for alternatives to Mesh? I presume eventually the service will be discontinued so I guess looking for alternatives now would be prudent.

0 statm1
There was a MSR project around collages where they sold a separate app for a few dollars. I got it and it was very nice and I see they have now added collage support to Photo gallery. I haven't used it yet so I can't say how they compare though.
