It took them all this time to come up with what windows 8 is now, I can't see anything revolutionary happening in a few more months

Nah, not revolutionary but maybe just a few more minor tweaks if they can. I'm more interested in the update store post-RTM. The rumor is that we're going to get a yearly update cycle going, so like a 8.1 or 8.5 like what we have on Windows Phone. That to me is a bigger story.

No he's used the KMS method, if you want it that badly get a TechNet account I did. Anyway back on topic seems kinda weird how they are making new builds so soon after RTM but I guess its only a good thing.

I don't see a reason why the windows team would stop working after RTM.

KMS does not activate permanently and as the version is Pro, I imagine it is retail not VL

If you do some searches around the web, you'll see that there are some MAK keys that have been leaked and there are "methods" for activating them. These MAK keys will activate Windows 8 Pro VL and Enterprise permanently.

Yeah I know the method he used, I just don't want to say it, might get in trouble, I didn't do it because I bet you MS will clamp down and it'll be come an un-genuine install soon.

Was there some change/tweak in that screenshot that I missed? Looks exactly the same as Win8 RTM right now.

Looks the same to me as well, I doubt we'll see any UI updates again till SP1 or whatever they decide to call the first big update to the OS next year.

A little off-topic: Change your windows background color from white to green:

http://bbs.pcbeta.com/viewthread-1107754-1-1.html

Copy following into notepad and save as .bat file, run as admin, reboot(or edit regedit manaully)

reg add "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Appearance\New Schemes\Current Settings SaveAll\Sizes\0" /v "Color #5" /t REG_DWORD /d 16777215 /f

To revert back to default white, change key value from 199 237 204 to 255 255 255

According to canouna this build is in the LDR(Limited Release Distribution) branch, so we probably won't have it or receive updates.

Yes, it's a QFE update in the LDR branch, so basically a kernel update MSU installed on Windows 8 RTM :p

Yesterday Neowin News reported that those who are eligible for the 19.99 upgrade could register with MS, to-day win8china reported that people who submitted yesterday already got a "Status Approved" confirmation from MS.

I have no idea if MS did check on the submitted infos(it shouldn't be difficult), or just "you-submit-I-approve"(LOL) - Many people had submitted a registration even though their machine was purchased long time ago, guess we'll soon find out.

    • Being on GitHub doesn't make something safe. Like any unofficial scripts to do x or y this caters to people with just enough knowledge to be dangerous. If you want to do what this does, and you actually know what you're doing then write your own script (or maybe just add the reg keys yourself) if you don't have the ability to read and understand what a script is doing, and especially don't run it with elevated privileges. Or in this case just use an MSA, sign up the normal route, and stop trying to push water up hill
    • Dude get a clue, LTSC is Enterprise, not even legal for consumers, and ESU is not mainstream support cycle, just an extended security updates period.
    • Nvidia is your issue more so than linux itself. I did used it for a while with an old 1060 3gb, but using propietary drivers was kind of messy.
