Golf course designers are a borderline crazy breed to begin with, but even by their standards, this is off the wall: plans for an entire floating golf course in the Maldives. The creation of the Maldivian government, Troon Golf and Waterstudio, a Dutch architecture firm, the $520 million course is designed to combat a problem that the rest of us don't yet have. In short: the Maldives are about to sink below the ocean.

The Maldives, a collection of almost 1,200 islands in the Indian Ocean, have an average elevation of just five feet above sea level. And whether or not YOU believe in climate change, the folks there do, and they've got a lot more reason to take it seriously than the rest of us do. Accordingly, they've begun plans to create a series of floating islands to stave off imminent apocalypse. (A golf course wouldn't be high on our priority list in such a scenario, but hey.)

The course will be made up of a series of islands with multiple holes on each island. Ah, but how do you get between holes? Glad you asked. The answer, of course, is UNDERWATER TUNNELS.

The entire project will be carbon neutral, developers claim. Construction will begin later this year, with the course ready by the end of 2013 and the entire complex ready by 2015. Start saving now.

The article makes no sense whatsoever.

well since the island is slowly sinking as they suggest, and construction of a golf course shown to be 'low priority' as mentioned, my guess would be foreign contractors, investors and the government are using this as investment leverage. They start building climate proof tourist based establishments, they get to control and claim larger chunks of the market or revenue before everyone else hones in. I mean things do kinda look like this, why if on the priority list would they splash so much for tourism ventures if the 'maldives are sinking'....

    • You are mostly right about the ephemeral nature of it. As I mention in the article, if you dont add a second device or take a backup of your account before uninstalling it, then yes you will lose access to your account. That said, in terms of actual user experience when you sync multiple devices your message history carries across and there's also a Saved Messages chat like there is on Telegram to send messages and attachments between your installs. But yh, what you point out are correct and its not trying to emulate Messenger or Telegram.
    • OK so SearXNG is a meta search engine that you can install locally or use via a public instance. It scrapes other search engines which you choose and then sorts the results. Not as complicated as multiple relays
    • The only difference here is that you think you came up with these reasons. You didn't. These age old fearmongering lies (that were NEVER true) were funded by and the anger stoked by Putin through proxies like Farage (and later in the USA, Trump) and filtered down through the skinheads, Neonazis, etc. until it reached the uninformed, ignorant, and gullible -- never realizing they were being played for fools against their own best interests. Even now, despite all of the EVIDENCE proving that Brexit was a terrible mistake for ALL citizens of the UK and that its supporters were tricked by Putin's proxies into sabotaging their own nation, you're still here defending these well-known lies as if they were ever true. Not only are they not true. They NEVER were. So, when are you going to realize that you were lied to and actually get angry at the liars and charlatans who lied to you, instead of blaming the innocent people they lied to you about?
