The fall-out of Apple?s win against Samsung in US court is still coming clear, but many have already branded Microsoft as the biggest winner.

An unnamed Asian smartphone OEM has said they would ?diversify into other products running Windows? in response, and now Samsung officials have also told Korea Times that they would be doing the same, and reduce their reliance on Android.

Samsung was ?closely partnering with Microsoft (MS) to cut its dependency on Google Android, according to officials Wednesday? they write.

Google itself has distanced itself from Samsung, noting most of the infringement did not involve their technology.

The somewhat unexpected announcement of the Samsung ATIV S, which was not expected to be shown at IFA 2012 on the same stage as the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, may be a sign of this movement already, and will hopefully presage Samsung giving their Windows Phones more marketing emphasis.

Apple may have won the case but Samsung and Microsoft are going to come out better off. Especially with the new phones coming out, I'm going to predict that alot of people wil skip the iphone 5 release to wait for Samsung/Microsoft w8 phones :D

The fact that Samsung is going to even put all the Windows 8 and WP8 devices under one brand name "Ativ" like it does with Galaxy says it all, otherwise they wouldn't have bothered. They're also reported dropping Bada and delaying Tizen or w/e that things called.

I doubt that. The iPhone sells like hotcakes at launch.

I doubt it, Samsung already makes WP phones, as do many other "big name" companies with no real effect on the market. I don't see them saying they are going away from android making any waves.

I wish people would differentiate between Android and Touchwiz - the Samsung enhancements are in no way representative of Android in terms of a vanilla setup which many handset vendor are using right now - Huawei and ZTE are two such names which have very large contracts with major Carriers such as AT&T, Vodafone, Telstra etc.

Site note, given how much of a pain in the backside it is to port and maintain Android I think Samsung is going to get to a point where it makes little sense pushing Android when it requires so much work to keep it going. Long run they can create drivers for Windows Phone 8 and pretty much 'set and forget' with updates being handled by Microsoft. Personally I'd sooner see there be a good show down between Windows Phone 8 and iOS rather than having the fragmented clusterf-ck that is Android sucking the oxygen out of the room.

i think this is a load of BS. samsung is not going to just start focusing more on windows phone becuase of apple and their greedy lawyers.

No where does it say that Samsung is focusing more on WP because of Apple. Did you even read the damn article?

Here, I'll post it again:

Actually, a lot of analysts and tech-pundits belief that it is the case. They believe that Android OEMs will increase their focus on WP drastically, to avoid Apple ban.

They call WP the emerging winner from this case, and Nokia's stock actually took a 10% jump after the jury's decision was revealed!

In the end, if Samsung has to pay Google to use Android* and they have to pay Microsoft to use WP - it's no difference to them. They have to license it one way or the other (in addition to the extra development needed on Android).

*This is my understanding. Android is free but Manufacturers pay Google to use Google apps on their phones.

Yeah they would, did they not get sued based on the menu screens/icons etc on there phones because it was too much like the iphone?? And are having to pay money because of that?

That is a reason to itself to switch to focusing on w8 phones, as apple cant try and claim they are copying them with that.

And they might think sales of android devices will be affected because of the apple case

so Samsung is not putting all their eggs into one basket. smart move.

And Samsung had announced and had their new wp8 devices being developed or finished before the Apple Samsung verdict. So I doubt this influenced the OP very much if at all.

And WP has not been doing great either...at least not as good as I was expecting. Nokia isnt doing much for sales and maybe another partner/different devices will give WP the boost they need. Lots of people like Samsung phones...just look at the S3. Samsung is just betting on WP to be a success.

yeah nothing new here, they aren't putting all their eggs in the same basket and it's common practice, just look at HTC.

Samsung customized their android interface to look more like IOS, this is samsung's own fault, not google's and not android's.

The Android OS is dominating the mobile OS market at the moment and it's growth continues to increase steadily as well, there is no way Samsung would ever walk away from the Android OS as it would lose the company way too much money in doing so.

Ironic that Samsung's homegrown Bada has more market share than all the Windows Phones and Bada is the one their ditching xD

Android has been good to Samsung. I doubt they are dumping them. They are just hedging their bets by supporting Microsoft. That's just good business.

bada itself was a hedge against being too dependent on Google for Android, but I think they eventually realized that they could always fork Android and go off on their own anyway. bada provided little upside to a forked version of Android.

Now that Samsung has an OS like Android in its hip pocket, they are free to develop devices with OSes for which they have less control--like Windows Phone.

LOL even a dead OS has more market than Windows Phones. Yes, sure Samsung will be leaving the Android market to be an exclusive Windows Phone supplier. That makes as much sense as this:
