Ok guys while doing an update on OpenSUSE last night i came back to a

OH NO SOMETHING WENT WRONG screen

I know its the Intel driver that's not working correctly so its an easy fix

but i thought why not take the chance to try something new so i am looking for ideas on some distros to use

Not keen on Mint or Ubuntu as they seem to have problems with my hardware

Linux Mint Debian Edition is worth a look (I'm assuming you said no to Mint because it's Ubuntu derived).

I quite like it. Failing that I'd say Debian.

If you want a real hardcore Linux experience, perhaps Gentoo?

Fedora w KDE it should work fine. I used it last on a 512MB RAM vmware VM and it was pretty smooth so you shouldn't have any trouble on that system.,...

does Debian come with Gnome 2 or 3?

I think they use Gnome 3 now...

I'd go with Fedora and see which DE you like best. :)

Arch was touchy for me.... specially on dell laptops....

Touchy in what way? Just curious.

And Fedora is a good distro. What problems were you having with Ubuntu and Linux Mint, specifically?
