Ok guys while doing an update on OpenSUSE last night i came back to a

OH NO SOMETHING WENT WRONG screen

I know its the Intel driver that's not working correctly so its an easy fix

but i thought why not take the chance to try something new so i am looking for ideas on some distros to use

Not keen on Mint or Ubuntu as they seem to have problems with my hardware

Linux Mint Debian Edition is worth a look (I'm assuming you said no to Mint because it's Ubuntu derived).

I quite like it. Failing that I'd say Debian.

If you want a real hardcore Linux experience, perhaps Gentoo?

Still trying to get Arch working so i dont think Gentoo is for me lol

Care telling us what it's for, what you want to do with it, whether you like being on cutting-edge developments of linux, etc etc?

Glassed Silver:mac

yeah sure i use it for

Web Browsing

Email

Watching Videos

Playing games

html/php/mysql use netbeans for code and usually have php, apache and mysql installed just so i can test stuff before uploading it

sometimes play about with perl and python

some graphics stuff but nothing heavy

best i could get with not having access to laptop lol

Conexant High-Definition SmartAudio 221 Driver

Intel Chipset Installation Utility for ICH9m

Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset

Atheros Wireless

Realtek RTL8101E Family PCI-E Fast Etherne

160gb Hard Drive

DVD Writer

2gb RAM

does Debian come with Gnome 2 or 3?

I think they use Gnome 3 now...

I'd go with Fedora and see which DE you like best. :)

    • This is listed as a preview in WU for me. I usually don't grab them as previews; what's your opinion on it so far?

    • Onwards to Windows 12 then lol.
    • There is a long thread (128pgs and counting) that I've been following over at ElevenForums that has a method for updating Secure Boot even if there is no BIOS upgrade. I've used this method and had zero issues. NOTE:  I do not take any responsibility if this or any other Secure Boot method bricks your system -- YMMV!  Read carefully before using!
