Great Dane, World's Tallest Dog

The Guinness World Records 2013 book published Thursday recognizes Zeus of Otsego, Mich., as the world's Tallest Dog.

The 3-year-old measures 44 inches from foot to shoulder.

Standing on his hind legs, Zeus stretches to 7-foot-4 and towers over his owner, Denise Doorlag. Zeus is just an inch taller than the previous record-holder, Giant George.

Zeus weighs 155 pounds and eats around 12 cups of food a day. That's equivalent to one 30-pound bag of food.

Doorlag says she had to get a van to be able to transport Zeus.

Sad too tho'... the larger they are, the shorter they tend to live (and develop all sorts of hip and limb issues). My cousins' bred Danes... awesome dogs. They had a 150 pounder named Caesar. One time my cousin was playing ball with him in the house... sent a ball down the wood-floor hallway. Caesar could not stop... went head and shoulders through the wall! Also... 12 cups of food/day?! WOW! Imagine the poop you'd have to clean up in the yard...

I remember as a kid playing with a dog named "bear" because he was literally as tall as a grizzly when standing on his hind legs. His muzzle was very big like a bear's and had black medium length fur. I was around 5'10 -5'11" at the time (Now 6'3"), and he and I would wrestle in his yard playing around. When he stood up on his hind legs, I knew I was about to be pushed to the ground by his sheer size.

I have to admit - the dog in the article picture lives up to his given name. I would be a bit un-nerved though to see him drinking from the faucet that way, especially if he knew how to turn it on and off. ;)
