Canon Announces EOS 6D, Its Smallest Full-Frame D-SLR to Date

Canon's newest full-frame digital SLR is its smallest yet. The company just announced the EOS 6D, a professional digital SLR with a full-sized, 35mm sensor built into a 1.7-pound body that's several millimeters slimmer than the 1.8-pound 5D Mark II or 1.9-pound 5D Mark III $2,979.00 at PRIMOTRONIX .

The EOS 6D sitll isn't as portable as a Canon Rebel digital SLR or a micro four-thirds camera, but the much larger sensor and improved processing makes it more useful for professional shooting.

The 20-megapixel 6D uses the same DIGIC 5+ processor found in the 5D Mark III, and can shoot approximately 4.5 frames per second according to Canon (slightly slower than the 5D Mark III's 6 fps but faster than the 5D Mark II's 3.9 fps). It has 63 metering zones and can auto-focus as low as EV -3, and has a 3-inch LCD screen with 1.04 million dots. It has a UHS-1-compatible SD card slot, but no longer accepts CompactFlash cards. It also features built-in GPS and Wi-Fi, while the 5D Mark II and III both require accessories for those functions.

The Canon EOS 6D will be available this December for $2,099 for the body only and $2,899 for the camera and Canon's EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM zoom lens.

For more casual shooters, Canon also announced three new PowerShot point-and-shoot models. The PowerShot G15, S110, and SX50 HS are smaller, much more affordable cameras that feature respectively a 28mm f/1.8 wide-angle lens, built-in Wi-Fi, and a 50x optical zoom.

Looking at the stats chart real quick... can't imagine why anybody would want a 6D.

This camera really doesn't have enough that sets it apart from the others to justify it being its own product.

This is almost as bad as the refreshed 60D they did where they changed exactly NOTHING lol.

I am waiting for the next revision of Canon 5D. By then I'll have enough money set aside. I am still happy with my 40D right now though.

You're probably looking at about four years, but if you're willing to do that then kudos to you. I couldn't wait to get my Mk3. :D
