Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac 14.2.4 Update

Recommended Posts

Solution to the Office apps still looking blurry on OS X taken from Mac Rumors:

1. Open terminal window

2. Type "touch"

3. Open Finder and navigate to Microsoft Office.

4. Drag and drop an app (like Word) into the terminal window then hit enter.

5. Repeat until you have done Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.

Excel windows finally allow for scrolling when they're inactive! I could drink Microsoft's blood for disabling that functionality.

Never mind. When two Excel windows are open it's still not possible to scroll through inactive windows. Only one. Words cannot describe how much I hate Microsoft for removing this ability.

I can't even get it to install, get this error:

Prerequisites

Before you install the Office 2011 14.2.4 Update, make sure that the computer is running Mac OS X v10.5.8 or a later version of the Mac OS X operating system.

To verify that the computer meets this prerequisite, click About This Mac on the Apple menu.

Additionally, you must install the Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 14.2.3 Update before you install the Office for Mac 2011 14.2.4 Update.

To verify that the update that is installed on your computer, follow these steps:

  • On the Go menu, click Applications.
  • Open the Microsoft Office 2011 folder, and then open any Office application (for example, open Word).
  • On the Word menu, click About Word.
  • In the About Word dialog box, compare the version number next to Latest Installed Update.

I wasn't making a comparison between the two versions.

Was someone accusing you of comparing the two versions or are you asserting that I'm not allowed to compare the two versions because of some reason? Your post is confusing. Sorry for bringing new information to the discussion. My point was that at least they are moving Office in a good direction because 2011 >> 2008 >> 2004.

I installed the

Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac 14.2.4 Update

and my 15" mbpr word app is still blurry. I read a few posts back that the previous update

must be installed first, but I don't know how to revert to pre-14.2.4 word. The microsoft

website says I have to delete word, then reinstall. Is there a better option?

I tried to install 14.2.3, but it would not allow this . . . any ideas?

I just bought this computer a few days ago, so be kind.

what a terminal window?

Terminal is the UNIX command line application found in OS X. It's located in /Applications/Utilities.

  1. Launch Terminal
  2. Type "touch" (without the quotation marks)
  3. Hit [space]
  4. Drag and drop Microsoft Excel.app found in /Applications/Microsoft Office 2011 onto the Terminal window
  5. Hit [enter]

Repeat these steps with every main app.

this is what terminal shot back at me:

touch: /Applications/Microsoft Office 2011/Microsoft Word.app: Permission denied

dhcp-147-31-244-172:~ robertwolfehorsey$

It was the same for each micro suite app/

So is Unix the structure upon which OSX is build around?

I have no knowledge of UNIX, but I think its been around since the

1970's or so. Is this correct. Thanks for you help.

    • Sound Booster 1.13 Build 575 by Razvan Serea Increase volume on your laptop. Boost the volume of even very quiet speakers. Raise volume above maximum. Letasoft Sound Booster can be used as an extra amplifier when the volume of the program you are listening to is too low for comfortable listening and you feel that your PC’s speakers can produce a louder sound. This can be the case when the audio or video has been recorded at the level below normal. Or, for example, when the other person’s microphone you are talking to on Skype, is not working properly. There can be a plenty of other reasons why the sound is being too quiet and there is not much you can do about it except buy external speakers. Sound of any application that is being played in the system can be amplified up to 500%. Letasoft Sound Booster can raise volume of programs like web browsers, on-line communication software (Teams, Discord, Zoom), any kind of media player or games. Simply put, volume of virtually any program that can play any sound in PC, can be boosted to a comfortable level with Letasoft Sound Booster. You can control current volume with the pop-up slider from the system tray. Alternatively, you can assign system-wide hot keys for increasing and decreasing, and use them when you need to adjust volume Letasoft Sound Booster constantly monitors current gain level and prevents samples from clipping, thus reducing all major sound distortions. • I own these and the normal QuietComfort ones from Bose. The QC are amazing and I want to love these, but for the life of me, I have a terrible time getting them attached to my ears.
    • Thanks for the tip. I am giving it a try. Initial quick impression: I like it.
