An Arkansas man killed a 13?3?, 1,380-pound alligator Friday, which required five people to help him move the reptile from the boat, Fox16.com reported.

Mike Cottingham, who is from the town of Prescott, says he bagged the gator in the lost lakes area below the dam at Lake Millwood in Hempstead County. Arkansas Game and Fish tells Cottingham his catch is a state record.

Cottingham says the gator was so large that they couldn?t get it into his boat. When they got back to the dock it took 5 people to get it out of the water.

Cottingham plans to mount the head and make boots with the rest of the animal.

um, good for him i guess... but mounting the head and using the rest to make boots... not too crazy about that :-/

is hunting gators legal down there?

It is legal in most states that have them. Usually the only limit on them is they have to be larger than a certain size... which clearly this on is. Assuming they eat gator meat, they will be having meat on the table for a while. :p

In Arkansas? It's probably illegal not to. Hillbillies.

Being a person born and raised in Arkansas but now living in Texas I can say this isn't correct. Only the tip top of Arkansas has hillbillies. Most of the state is covered in rednecks. If you are going to insult with sweeping generalizations at least know what to say. Not that any of the people you are talking about would consider the term an insult.

Actually, there is a season on gators. No size limit. But of course. you don't want an itty bitty getting on your line. You have to buy tags. Some gator hunters can and do fill over 200 tags per season. Watch Swamp People and you'll know what I know. ;)

Or you can try using Google which clearly states that size limits exist, such as in Florida where it is illegal if it isn't larger than 18 inches. In case nobody told you, reality tv isn't very real.

You can't insult a hillbilly -- they wouldn't know the difference.

How are you going to throw back an small gator if it has your hook deep in it's gullet? You can't. Gator hunters are paid by the length, not the weight. Yes, you probably won't get paid for a tiny gator, but there goes a tag you could have gotten paid on. No matter what size it is, you have to tag it.

You are right, the law doesn't state that you are only allowed to hunt gators larger than 18 inches in Florida...o wait... no it doesn't. Seriously, anyone can Google it. You are arguing against the law at this point, not me. It is in plain English.

"The permit allows hunters to catch the reptiles as small as 18 inches."

I wasn't arguing the point. I was just stating a fact.

    • My comment was intended to be humorous. I believe scientists already knew it since they comprehend relatively. Maybe I'm assuming that.
    • Surprise Execs are dumb. I hope the rehired engineers said were not coming back until we get 2x our salary.
